NYIT History
New York Institute of Technology had been granted the provisional charter by the New York State Board of Regents in 1955 and its first campus was opened in New York City. Later in 1965, New York Institute of Technology's Long Island Campus which is also known as the Old Westbury Campus had opened on the Whitney Estate. The institution had gained its official accreditation by the year 1970 and more than 5,000 students had enrolled at the main campus.
During 1972, New York Institute of Technology had introduced its first program for graduate students which is Masters in Business Administration. The virtual campus of the institute known as the "American Open University of NYIT" had been established in 1984 and the first international program in China was founded in 1998. The institute was also re-accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools later in 2003.
