NLU Lucknow (RMLNLU) - Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University is approved by the University Grants Council, RMLNLU is a public university in Lucknow, UP. Established as the Dr.Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law Institute in 2005, the institution got its present-day name after it got the 'university' status in 2006. The university holds recognition from the BCI.
RMLNLU offers BA LLB (Hons) integrated programme & LLM degree, approved by the Executive Council on the recommendation of the Academic Council of the university. It also extends a regular PhD programme which is of five years. These courses are offered in full-time mode. Yes, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU), Lucknow accepts Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) scores for admission to its BA LLB (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law) (Hons) and Latin Legum Magister (LLM) courses. The admission process is based on valid Common Law Admission Test scores, followed by Common Law Admission Test counselling. The cutoff for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law (Hons) course in 2023 was 749.
The eligibility criteria for the BA LLB Hons course at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (NLU Lucknow) are as follows :
- There is no upper age limit for the undergraduate programme in Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
- Candidates must have secured 45% marks or its equivalent grade in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination) if they belong to the General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories.
- Candidates must have secured 40% marks or equivalent in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination) if they belong to the SC/ST categories.
- Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April are also eligible to appear in the CLAT examination. - The result of the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course.
The admission to the BA LLB Hons course for the academic year 2024 is based on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), which was conducted on 2 Dec ’23 .
NLU Lucknow offers B.A. LLB (Hons.), LL.M. (One year), and PhD programmes. For B.A. For LLB admission, candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised Board, and LLM admission requires B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)/B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.) degree of RMNLU Lucknow or LLB five years or LLB.three years degree of a recognised university.

To get admission to NLU Lucknow, candidates must go through a multi-step selection process. For admission to UG & PG courses such as BA LLB and LLM, candidates must apply and qualify for CLAT exam. Further, for admission to PhD course, the university conducts RMNLU Writtent Test. After the commencement of all the selection rounds, candidates are notified through merit list. Later on, the shortlisted candidates must pay an admission fee to secure their seats.

Eligibility for admission to RMLNLU's LLM course is based on performance in the CLAT PG examination. Candidates qualifying in the cut-off after the publication of the result shall be invited for a counselling process. A candidate may opt for the Institutions in order of preference during counselling. Seats shall be allotted through merit and reservation policy. Thus, the candidates selected in the list will have to go through the admission formalities like document verification and fee payments to confirm their admissions.
The applicants are systematically admitted to the LLM programme at RMLNLU. The total intake for the LLM programme in RMLNLU is 31 seats. Yes, the RMLNLU follows a semester pattern. The LLM course in one academic year is divided into two semesters covering core and elective courses. This semester system will ensure that the student gets ample time to pursue the learning process in a focused manner and attend to the completion of course work. The research project would be attended within this structure, which thus envisages comprehensive legal education with preparation for subsequent career goals.
The cut-off closing rank for RMLNLU LLM in the General All-India category dropped to 277 in 2024. In comparison, the previous year's closing rank was 101 in 2023 and 108 in 2022. RMLNLU LLM CLAT Cutoff is released for every round of seat allotment. The closing rank is finalised only after the last round of counselling. The candidates should have a valid score in CLAT and meet the eligibility criteria; for this, the candidates must hold an LLB degree with at least 50% aggregate marks.
The tuition fee for the LLM course at Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University has been kept at INR 35,000. An additional amount of INR 20,000 is charged as a one-time admission and caution deposit. Therefore, the total fee that candidates are required to pay to pursue the entire LLM course is INR 55,000. The above fee structure is provisional and therefore subject to change. Hence, it is taken from the official website/sanctioning body.
Yes, RMLNLU charges a one-time fee for the LLM course. There is a one-time payment after the selection of candidates, which is INR 20,000, including admission fee and caution deposit refundable in addition to the tuition fee that has to be paid annually. However, the aggregate amounting to INR 35,000 sums up to INR 55,000 as course fees for the LLM course. The above-mentioned fees are subject to revision.
