CLAT Counselling 2023 second merit list has been published on January 27, and candidates can secure their allotted seat before January 31, 2023. CLAT Counselling 2023 is being held in online mode at official website of Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) - consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Candidates shortlisted for CLAT 2023 admission process need to excercise their options to accept, revise or withdraw from the seat allotment process before the last date. Those accepting or applying for seat upgrade will have to pay the confirmation fee INR 20,000 to hold the seat. The first seat allotment and merit list of CLAT 2023 as per the schedule. The admission process of CLAT 2023 will conclude on June 20, 2023 with fifth round of counselling process.

CLAT 2023 counselling process is completely online including, registration, publishing of merit list, and then seat allotment as per the preferences marked by candidates. Candidates can accept or upgrade or exit from their allotted seat in any round of counselling. Once their choice of seat is allotted then they can complete their admission by paying the counselling and admission fee as required. CLAT 2023 counselling process will be held for at least five rounds until all the seats at the participating NLUs are filled. Note: There are 3, 213 seats for UG courses, and 1,217 seats for PG courses. The candidates who qualfied CLAT 2023 will be shortlisted for admission rounds after they complete counselling registration, and eligibility related documentation.

What after CLAT Seat Allotment Result - Counselling Process

All candidates who have been allotted a seat in the first round of counselling now need follow the below steps:

Step 1: Seat Acceptance/Seat Upgrade/Exit Admission Process

Candidates who have been allotted a seat need to take action on any of the below points:

  • Accept the seat: This option is used by candidates to confirm their choice of NLU. Once the lock option is used, a candidate's seat at the allotted NLU is freezed. Thereafter, the candidate need not participate in further seat allotment rounds and complete the remaining admission formalities (mentioned below).  

  • Apply for Upgrade: This option is used when candidates want to change the allotted institute to his or her higher choice (upward shifting). Such candidates will have to wait for next seat allotment list and they will be allotted seats in their preferred college depending on the availability of vacant seats in that college. Candidates choosing upgrade are considered active participants, therefore, they too need to complete the remaining admission formalities (mentioned below)

  • Exit from seat allotment: Candidates can choose to exit from the counselling process if they do not wish to participate in the current or further rounds of counselling. It may be noted that once exited, candidates will not be given another chance to participate in the counselling for NLU admissions. 

Step 2: Completing admission formalities

After candidates accept the allotted seat or apply for upgrade, they need to upload all the prescribed documents (mentioned above) on the official website for verification. Thereafter, candidates also need to pay the remaining admission fee to the allotted NLU. 

How to Check CLAT Merit List 2023?

The NLU-wise CLAT merit list has not been released yet. When out, candidates can check the merit list by following the below steps:

Step 1: Visit CLAT official website

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Notifications’ section

Step 3: Click on ‘CLAT 2023 First Allotment List’ link

Step 4: View and download the CLAT first allotment list 2023

CLAT Counselling Fee Refund

The CLAT counselling fee of INR 50,000 paid at the time of registration is refundable. However, candidates should keep in mind the below points:

  • The fee will be fully refunded if candidates withdraw their seat before the last date
  • A deduction of INR 10,000 to the total counselling fee will be done if candidates withdraw their seat after the last date
  • If candidates are found ineligible during document verification then their admission will be cancelled. Such candidates will get refund Rs 40,000 after deduction of processing charges.

Listed below are the documents required for verifying the eligibility of candidates for final admission:

UG candidates:

  1. Class 10 Marksheet (as a Date of Birth proof document)

  2. Class 12 Marksheet (qualifying examination proof)

  3. CLAT 2023 Admit Card

  4. Character Certificate/Conduct Certificate
  5. Transfer/Migration Certificate
  6. Caste Certificate (If applicable)
  7. Specially-Abled Certificate (If applicable)
  8. Domicile Certificate (If applicable)
  9. Any other supporting document to claim your seat if applied under a category such as Wards of Serving/Retired Defence Personnel, EWS, Sons/daughters of Ex-servicemen/Defence service personnel etc.

PG candidates:

How to Register for CLAT 2023 Counselling?

Candidates invited for the counselling and seat allotment process had to register in online mode by following the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Login to the registered acccounts

Firstly, candidates need to login to their registered accounts by following the below steps:

  • Visit the official website of CLAT 2023- https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in/ 
  • Enter mobile number and password in the space provided on the Home page
  • Click on Login
  • Click on the counselling registration link

Step 2: Update NLU preferences

Next, candidates need to update their preferences for minimum five National Law Universities (NLUs). There are total 24 NLUs in India that offer five-year integrated LLB coures to students basis their CLAT score. On the hand, total 20 NLUs in India offer LLM courses to students basis their CLAT score.

Candidates are advised to update their preferences only after gaining sufficient knowledge about the NLUs, their courses, fees, seats and more. It may be noted that once the counselling registration process is over, candidates will be considered for admission only in the NLUs selected by them. They will not be considered for admission in any other NLU.  

Step 3: Pay CLAT counselling fee

Lastly, candidates need to pay the CLAT counselling fee of INR 50,000 in online mode via credit card/debit card/internet banking. A confirmation email will be sent on the registered email address and phone number of candidates once the fee is successfully paid.

It may be noted that it is mandatory for candidates to pay the counselling fee at this stage. Any candidate failing to pay the counselling fee will not be considered for admission. However,  the counselling fee for CLAT 2023 will be adjusted with the course fee once a seat is allotted to a candidate. It may also be noted that mere counselling registration does not guarantee admission. The registration process is followed by CLAT seat allotment process in which candidates are allotted seats based on merit and their NLU preferences. 

CLAT Invite List 2023

In the invite list, the Consortium mentioned the admit card numbers of all the candidates who have been shortlisted for the counselling process. All ths shortlisted candidates were also invited for counselling via email/SMS. However, all the candidates are advised to login to their accounts to confirm the counselling invitation. The official CLAT notification reads, "Candidates are advised to login and check if they have been invited for counseling. Clat Consortium will not be responsible for non-delivery of Emails/SMS."

Full Refund: If an aspirant doesn’t get a seat in any of the CLAT counselling rounds or withdraws the seat before August 18 then s/he will get a refund of the full amount of INR 50,000.

Partial Refund: There are two conditions for a partial refund, which are as mentioned below:

  • Condition 1: If the candidate is allotted a seat in any of the three allotment rounds, but wishes to forfeit the seat and exit the CLAT admission process, then an amount of INR 40,000 only will be refunded.
  • Condition 2: If a candidate is found ineligible on the basis of the documents or information submitted by the candidate, in such a situation also, INR 40,000 will be refunded.

Q. When will process of CLAT counselling 2023 begin?

A. CLAT 2023 counselling has begun from December 28, 2022 onwards. The last date of CLAT 2023 counselling process is June 20, 2023. The merit list for seat allotment round 1 will be out on January 18, 2023. 

Q. How much is CLAT 2023 counselling fee?

A. The counselling fee for CLAT 2023 is INR 30,000 for general/OBC category, and INR 20,000, for SC/ST/OBC/BC/EWS/PWD categories. The CLAT counselling fee can only be paid in online mode on the official website of the law entrance exam.

Q. Is CLAT counselling fee refundable?

A. The counselling fee is refundable if candidates withdraw their seat before the counselling process is over. However, some amount will be deducted for cancellation of seat.

Q. When will CLAT 2023 allotment list be released?

A. The CLAT seat allotment lists for all rounds are released as per the schedule set by the CLAT Consortium.

A. The list of documents that candidates need when taking part in CLAT counselling process is mentioned below:

Q. How many rounds of CLAT counselling will be held?

A. The CLAT Consortium will conduct at least five rounds of seat allotment this year. Last year as well there were total of five CLAT seat allotment rounds until all seats at the participating NLUs were secured by candidates.

Q. Can I withdraw my admission at NLU?

A. Yes, you can withdraw your NLU admission at any stage of counselling process. However, if a seat is withdrawn after the given schedule, INR 10,000 will be deducted from the counselling fee for blocking the seat and putting the awaiting candidates at disadvantage.

Q. How can I apply for CLAT counselling?

A. You can apply for CLAT counselling by registering yourself on the official website of the exam and thereby, paying the counselling fee of INR 50,000. 

Q. What is the NLU fee structure?

A. The NLU fees vary as per the course and college chosen by the candidate. However, the average fee of NLUs for UG courses ranges from INR 1.8-2.8 lakh and for PG programme ranges from INR 80,000 to 2.18 lakh.

Q. Is CLAT counselling fee refundable?

A. The CLAT counselling fee is refunded completely if candidates withdrew their seat by the prescribed date. After the prescribed date, INR 10,000 is deducted from the counselling fee and the rest of the amount is refunded if a candidate withdraws his/her seat.

Q. How many seats are there in CLAT?

A. In 2021, total 4,009 seats were available, out of which 3,012 seats are available for UG courses and 997 seats are available for PG course admissions.
