How is CAT Percentile Calculated?

Calculation of CAT percentile includes three steps:

In CAT, three marks are awarded for each correct answer and one mark is deducted for each incorrect answer. No marks is deducted for wrong answers in non-MCQ type questions.

  1. Each candidate is first scored section-wise and then the overall score is arrived at by totaling the section-wise scores
  2. Thereafter, these section-wise and overall scores (raw scores) are normalized to arrive at scaled CAT score
  3. The normalized scores are converted into percentiles which is reported on the CAT score card

What is CAT Normalization Process?

The CAT exam is conducted in two slots and the difficulty level of the exam of one session varies from the other. To ensure equity in the marking process, CAT authorities follow a normalization process where the marks of every candidate are scaled.

Parameters taken into consideration during CAT normalization process:

  • Highest score

  • Lowest score

  • Mean score

  • Median score

  • Top 10 percentiles

  • Lowest 10 percentiles

The CAT normalization process is based on GATE scoring process and the calculations are based on statistic equations.

Top B-Schools accept other entrance exam score as well:
1- IILM University, Gurugram
2- Apeejay School of Management
3-Amity University
4- Asia Pacific Institute of Management
5- Indus School of Business Management
and many more
As per my understanding, student should select an MBA college with all facilities like IILM University, Gurugram has experienced faculty, good placement support and the curriculum benchmarked against the best in the world. Course modules are inspired by Stanford Graduate School of Business, Wharton Business School. For more information about the colleges, please go through the websites. Good Luck!

The minimum eligibility criteria of CAT is a Bachelor degree in any disciplines. So Diploma Engineering students are not eligible for CAT exam. You have to complete the Graduation first.
