To be considered for entry into this course, applicant must meet the following criteria:
- 3 year stream : An undergraduate degree in any discipline with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65% (or equivalent) and
- One design studio subject and one art/architecture/built environment/design history subject at the undergraduate level, or equivalent.
- 2 year stream: An undergraduate degree in architecture with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65% (or equivalent)

If applicants are applying for the 3-year stream and need to meet prerequisite subject requirements, the following subjects meet the design studio prerequisite:
- ARCH10001 Foundations of Design – Representation
- ARCH10003: Design Studio Alpha
- ARCH20001: Design Studio Beta
- If applicant do not have a design background, the portfolio applicant needs to submit as part of their application to this course will be collated with work from one of these subjects
applicants can complete one of the following subjects to meet the history prerequisite:
- ARCH10004: Design History & Theory in the Making
- ABPL20055: Global Foundations of Design
- ABPL30050: Modern Architecture: MoMo – PoMo
- ABPL30053: Formative Ideas in Architecture
Alternatively, Foregrounding: Design Studio & History (ABPL30065), an intensive quota subject through the Melbourne School of Design and the Community Access Program (CAP), is taught over a three-week period in November and covers the content to meet both the design studio and design history prerequisite requirements.
