During the formation of Ontario's Community College system, George Brown College was established in 1967. The Provincial Institute of Trades was founded in 1951 to offer apprentice training in place of the provincial Department of Labor. George Brown College was founded in 1967 and later opened its campuses in Kensington and Casa Loma. Later, in 1973, an expanded new campus in Casa Loma was established, and in 1976, the St James Campus was opened.
