Established in 1966, Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology is a public institution for higher education in Ontario's Hamilton port city. It is fully accredited and funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities and is a member of the Association of Community Colleges of Canada (ACCC).
The college conducts study programs at four locations across Hamilton, including Stoney Creek Campus, Fennell Campus (Hamilton Mountain), the Institute for Applied Health Sciences (McMaster University), and City School (Eva Rothwell Centre). David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre on Fennell campus houses a multi-functional studio, fitness center, indoor track, and three gymnasiums. It also has outdoor courts for basketball and beach volleyball, meeting spaces, and socialization areas. The college features a massage therapy and health center that provides regular therapy and wellness services, health education, and medical services. Social Inc. and the Language and Culture Centre are the venues for socializing and getting involved in different cultures and participating in various events and activities.
The library system of the colleges comprises three libraries, namely Cummings (Fennell), IAHS (McMaster), and Stoney Creek Campus Library, with each one having TECH BARs to support the technology used for learning, studying, collaborating and creating. Digital Creativity Centre and Collaboratories are the other points for discovery, development, collaboration, and experimental learning utilizing modern technologies. The college has 170 suites on the campus with access to the kitchen, laundry, housekeeping, and online maintenance application services. Students can also access the campus restaurant, and games and movie lounges. Mohawk College has five faculties offering programs in business, health sciences, communication, media, entertainment, community service, engineering and technology, preparatory and urban studies.
The college offers more than 145 continuing education courses, over 100 full-time certificate, diploma, and degree programs, and various part-time programs and apprenticeship programs to students. The profoundly qualified faculty of the college offers career-oriented education through classroom learning, industrial visits, internships, and training opportunities to students. Over 3,000 students participate in a co-op work term annually, ranging in length from four to 16 months. Other than this, the college also operates a digital student newspaper named ignitenews.ca and a radio station called 101.5 The Hawk.
Mohawk College has over 120,000 alumni across the globe, including distinguished names like Dominic Agostino (Politician), Annette Hamm (Canadian Reporter and News Anchor), Jillian Barberie (Actress, TV and Radio Host), Brad Clark (Politician), Master T (MuchMusic's Former VJ, TV, and Radio Personality), Alex Pierson (Canadian Broadcaster) and Joey Muha (YouTube Content Creator and Professional Drummer). The Alumni Association offers various awards and benefits to its alumni. It also organizes many events to recognize the achievements of alumni and help them connect with the college's current students.
