University is good, easy going, staff is super friendly and it is easy to manage.
Tips: For me, it was a cultural shift, but having a great Indian community here helped me a lot to adjust. I got a bursary for my fees as I had a good score in my Bachelor's degree in India. University is good, and everything seems easy with supportive students and professors.

BBA Program - Batch of 2026

It is stressful and difficult to survive.
Tips: I came here after the 12th grade and it was difficult for me as I was an 18-year-old girl doing a degree in university. I had a lot of expectations before coming here but the reality is so different from what others tell us. There were cultural differences and there were financial difficulties, there was stress, anxiety and there were happy times when you got your paycheck, etc. I can say that I changed a lot after coming here, my way of thinking changed and I became more active in university. I have improved a lot of my skills. There will be a lot of challenges that you need to face here. Things are not easy as your agency says, I have seen a lot of students going into depression because they were not able to handle the stress, it's not easy to get a job here. I have a lot of friends who are still unemployed, there are many students who drop the programme and go back to their home country, and there are a lot who face the challenges and stay here. I believe that it's good to do a degree back home and then move abroad because as I said the reality here is far different and it's difficult to survive here. If we have a degree back home, I believe it's an asset. If things didn't turn out as we wanted, we would have something to hold onto. I had a scholarship of $5000. It was through the entrance scholarship. My university makes its students feel at home, I was never homesick because the staff was so welcoming and friendly and they made us feel so comfortable and homely. About the course, I feel like I should have done my degree back home and then come here.
Likes (Indian Food): I am studying at the Brampton Campus of Algoma University and the food options here are mostly Indian. Due to inflation, everything is expensive. As we are living a busy life, it will be difficult to cook food every day and you end up buying food from outside.
Dislikes (Value for money): As I'm doing a Degree course, I feel like I'm charged more for the education I receive. Being an international degree student and managing your expenses is so difficult and they increase the fees every semester. As international students, we pay enough fees and when they increase the fees, it will be difficult for students. Moreover, for one or other subjects, they will ask the students to buy software which cost 100$+.

This college is amazing for studies as well as co-curricular activities.
Tips: There was no culture difference on this campus apart from the faculty as all the students in my class were international students. I did not get to sew such a difference which made a mark on my mind. I got a scholarship based on my grades from college in India I got a $2000 discount on fees.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): In college it's a normal day 6 hours of class and 1 hour break in between. I go to shop around and have a coffee to refresh. There are movie nights and bowling nights arranged by the college they take care of the public transport. There are social clubs & IT clubs founded by students.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Students can easily approach faculty via email and can fix zoom meetings or in-private sessions on campus. Teachers use recorded sessions which is advantageous for the students if they've any doubts they can go through the session again. The faculty is very diverse in terms of nationality.

College is average with no placement facilities.
Tips: You can go for better colleges as there are better options out there. The fee structure does not match up to the expectations. The campus is also very small and they also do not offer co-op. But they offer different courses for students in different fields as well.
Likes (Public transportation): University is present in downtown Brampton so public transport is very convenient. It will take less than an hour to reach the university from anywhere in Brampton. The university is there in downtown and accessible to various food outlets for snacks and coffee to grab.
Dislikes (Value for money): The degree is much more expensive than the regular universities and without Co-Op. Other universities provide co-op with less fees. Also, there are fewer college placement opportunities. There are initial expenses on books and we have assignment submitting sites that are not there in other universities.

Not enough part time jobs available on campus
Tips: Be prepared mentally and financially. Have a blue print of your two year plan. You may get a part time job in first 2-3 months so be prepared on how to manage your finances and accommodation. You may also have to start from zero so be prepared mentally and don't feel bad about it.
Likes (Post study jobs): Lot of options are available after graduation is complete. There is no cap on working hours as well when the study time is over. I have seen many students get jobs after their study completion when they are on their post study work permit. Just try to get into your field or in the field you have prior experience.
Dislikes (Part time work): Not enough part time jobs available on campus. Initially, there is a struggle to get into a permanent part time job. There is also a cap of 20 hours per week. It is a little bit difficult but manageable. I highly suggest to start looking for jobs before landing in Canada.

A student will get 100% knowledge and can be industry ready.
Tips: My college is a government affiliated college. They provide top quality education and prepare a student to work with industry directly. If an individual really wanna study and gain some knowledge then only they should take admission. If anyone just wanna be here to earn money then my college is not for them.

Business (Management) Diploma - Batch of 2023

Tough starting but good ending. A bit stressful but worth it.
Tips: It was a very different environment over here. As there are lots of students from different backgrounds, it would be a golden chance to learn about different countries and cultures. Other than that, there are some options for students to get scholarships but only a few are available for international students and others are for local students. So, we have to check according to our courses and particular College or University. I was satisfied with my course as it was related to my field of interest and background (Business). My institution provided me with facilities such as diverse teaching staff, a proper academic curriculum and support whenever needed. But they charge huge fees to an international student in contrast to local students. Over here in Canada, it is an overall good experience. However, there are lots of regulations and rules which make life a little stressful here.
Likes (Safety): This country is very safe to live for students as well as other general public. For students, there are varieties of departments to deal with different issues such as medical, financial, and tax credits. Apart from this, we see some road problems in winter like accidents, and heavy cold.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): There are very few options to get permanent residence in Canada right now because there are temporary restrictions on (SINP) in 22 different working sectors. This includes all food-related and some other industries. If given a chance I would not prefer to permanently immigrate to this country as there are good work opportunities over here. But, the environment over here is a bit stressful and not as natural as the home country.

It is a fine college not great.
Tips: I am satisfied with the college and the country however it is a subjective thing. The study is mostly self and you have to prepare everything by yourself. The faculty does help you if you are stuck somewhere. I had not availed of any scholarships for my studies.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): There are options for the settlement based on the immigration scheme from the government. I would like to stay in the country. Everyone has their own fair share of reasons for whether they would like to stay in the country. I would like to work hard and explore the opportunities available.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Very few companies or none would come for the placements. Individuals on their own have to do the work to get a field job. Since there was no company during my passing I have no idea about the packages they provide. You need to upgrade your skills in order to get the desired jobs.
