Master of Science in Information Technology - Batch of 2025

Scholarship opportunities are available through F4SU and FSU's scholarship portals.
Tips: Of course, there will be a cultural shift and transition when moving to a different country. However, everyone here is friendly, and you can easily adapt to the region. The cultural adjustment varies from student to student, so there's no need to worry, as most say that FSU is welcoming and diverse. Scholarship opportunities are available through F4SU and FSU's scholarship portals. Overall satisfaction is high due to the friendly environment, consistently ranking among the top public universities in the USA, offering strong academics, and a lovely campus culture.

Diverse and vibrant campus.
Tips: I have experienced a lot of changes in myself in terms of confidence and personality since I came here. The lab work and experience centres are top-notch, and you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you weren’t taking advantage of all the available resources. The cultural events held by the Indian Association really feel like home.

Interesting and historic university.
Tips: Turns out that Tallahassee is more peaceful than I imagined, but that’s worked out well because the student community is really involved and inclusive. Prepare to deal with the hot and humid weather, though. Getting my scholarship was nice because it’s based on merit, but I’ve heard that the current policies have made it unpredictable to win one.

Great faculty and facilities.
Tips: I came here with very mixed feelings. The tuition and living costs can really add up, so there is pressure to make something out of it. But the university has been quite understanding of it, and the faculty are helpful in times of distress and emergencies. The labs are also well funded, and my advisor has been a great help. Take your time, and once you get to know the place, you'll surely be happy.

The academics are strong and can be stressful at times.
Tips: One of the things that made me want to pursue my education here was the open-mindedness and freedom in customising your degrees which allows you to experiments and broaden your learning rather than simply confine to one field. Side from academics, the campus is buzzing with games, club activities and skill development programs. The professors are also very involved and host office hours. Also, you can reach out to them anytime. They are always ready to help you out.

FSU - The party school of Florida.
Tips: Be ready for a culture shock and be prepared to live on your own. The most important life skill to learn is cooking, which can really make things easier. Lots of part-time jobs are available on campus, and even university jobs are out there, but be prepared for some stiff competition.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The quality of teaching is really good, and we can access and use all university resources for free, such as library space, study space, and device support. There are a lot of Indians here, so it would be easy to settle down. The Indian students association of Tallahassee FSU helps most of the international students at different occasions.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are a limited number of Indian restaurants, but Mayuri has a lunch buffet that is affordable and tasty. Persis is near FSU, has the best taste and is open until midnight. A few restaurants are Persis, Indian Grill, Mayuri Indian restaurant, Essence of India, Zhaan Aaru's multicuisine restaurant, etc.

Masters in Data Science - Batch of 2025
3.7
There are no scholarships available for the data science department.
Tips: There was not much of a transition before and after coming here as many Indian students are pursuing their master’s or Ph.D. programs. Plus, there are no scholarships available for the data science department, as the department is self-funded. Although other departments may not offer scholarships at first, there's a chance to get some later in the semester. While the Nole Network and Career Fair are available, it is harder for international students to get internships and full-time jobs because many companies don't hire them due to visa sponsorship. In these cases, the burden falls on students to network and use personal referrals to find work. It seems that being a US citizen or having a Green Card makes finding work easier.
Likes (Public transportation): Seminole Express and Star metro services are available throughout the Tallahassee area. College buses run only on weekdays, from Monday to Thursday. Star metro buses run every day. People here widely use their own cars for transportation.

An educational journey like none other.
Tips: Keep an open mind and allow yourself to explore. The teaching is truly exceptional and the examinations follow an honours code usually. You should ideally sign up for some of the on-campus activities such as the culture exchange programme or an extracurricular. They've recently included additional scholarships which you can inquire about with the student services. Besides, the faculty are really friendly and will encourage for the best of you so approach them whenever you feel the need to.

It has been a great experience and made a lot of memories.
Tips: Before you come to this university, one of the most critical things to figure out is your accommodation based on convenience and budget. Make sure you don't compromise on the location and plan on staying with someone you know or are familiar with as there a number of crimes on the rise. Also, start planning your internships and work opportunities from the beginning as the chances of immigrating here and landing a desired job have really gone down.

The university is both fun and competitive.
Tips: Students should stay motivated and driven. You'll need these qualities to ensure that you have a great time at college while doing good as well. There’s a lot of student engagement but the classes are notoriously difficult and extra credit projects are given leverage. Plus Gator Sports our college team is a big thing here.
Dislikes (Part time work): The work permit regulations can make it really challenging to find a steady part-time job that makes a steady income plus hiring is only for a selective few places so you have limited options basically which is why I chose the rating I did.

Tips: Students should know that finding your ideal housing and accommodation is not easy so you should be well prepared with the process in advance. Priority is given to scholarships students so inquire about available financial aid or scholarship options that are relevant to you. Tips: Students should come to FSU only for its more promising and reputed programs, as those are more likely to pay off. A practical, career-focused program with strong support and opportunities.
Tips: UNCC offers a flexible curriculum with strong technical courses. Be prepared for hands-on projects, presentations, and teamwork. The campus has good labs, software access, and student resources. Charlotte has many job opportunities in the tech and finance sectors. Start early on coding, resume building, and networking. Transition was challenging initially due to independence and self-learning. Cultural shift included being punctual, direct communication, and class participation. Group projects often include diverse peers, which helps in learning. You'll learn life skills like cooking, budgeting, and time management. Joining student groups helps ease homesickness and build community. I got a Graduate Assistantship after my first semester. It covered part of the tuition and gave a monthly stipend of ~$800. I applied early and had a strong resume and good GPA. Networking with professors also helped me secure the role. Some scholarships offer in-state tuition waivers, saving more costs. Overall, I'm satisfied with UNCC's faculty, course quality, and campus support. The MSIT programme is industry-relevant and offers useful electives. Studying in the US brings great exposure and job prospects. Career fairs and internships help prepare for full-time roles. Despite some challenges, the experience is rewarding and valuable.

Its a great place for academic and to learn about various cultures.
Tips: The university does not provide any scholarships. I heard very rarely about someone getting a scholarship. Even if you get any Teaching/Research Assistantships also, compared with most of the universities you will not get any fee waiver. The faculty are very helpful and you can reach out to them anytime. The seniors are really friendly and host many events for us. I am overall satisfied with the university because of its wide variety of opportunities to learn.

A cozy cultural haven with room to grow.
Tips: Learning to live independent is something that Masters teaches you. It is experienced that cultural differences may rise while relating to a new area. However, given the current trend in Indian population growth, this place is our native. Honestly, a lot of events are celebrated with the same grandeur as in India. There aren't many scholarships offered by UNCC, and I hardly ever saw anyone get one. I think UNCC is an excellent place to study and live, with a well-run curriculum and decent living expenses. When compared to other states, Charlotte's weather is actually quite pleasant.
Likes (Public transportation): There are public bus stops on campus as well as two light rail station that provide convenient access to the city. Buses are available throughout the campus for travel between locations. Additionally, all public transit, including the light rail and public buses, is free for students with a UNCC ID.
Dislikes (Internships): There are really few opportunities to get internships because of the current state of the market. Although there are a lot of companies attending the career fair, as of right now, none of them are interested in sponsoring visas. Thus, it's really hard to find an internship these days.

Very few companies sponsor F1 visas, making it difficult to find a job.
Tips: I haven't noticed a significant cultural shift, as there are many Indians here, and you'll be surrounded by them. I also wasn't satisfied with the university because I didn't have a scholarship, and they don't offer them.
Likes (Indian Food): I live in Charlotte, and there are many Indian restaurants and food trucks nearby. The prices are affordable. For example, biryani costs $12, and dosa costs 9. As a South Indian, I've tried all the South Indian restaurants, and they're good. I feel the restaurants here are more South Indian in style, but I prefer both.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Very few companies sponsor F1 visas, making it difficult to find a job. There are job opportunities across all domains, particularly in Computer Science. Big tech companies, such as Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft, often provide sponsorships.

A diverse and career focused experience at UNC Charlotte.
Tips: Before joining UNC Charlotte, a student should know that it's a diverse, research-oriented university with strong programming in engineering and computer science. The campus is large and active, so time management and initiative are key to thriving here. Transitioning here involves adapting to a more independent learning style and a multicultural environment. Transitioning here was smooth academically, but I did experience a cultural shift in terms of communication style and learning approach, which gradually helped me grow more confident and open-minded. I received a merit-based scholarship, awarded based on my academic profile and statement of purpose. The scholarship covered part of my tuition, making a big difference financially. I am extremely satisfied with my university, the course structure, and the country's welcoming atmosphere.
