What to do and expect at King's College London in your MS degree.
Tips: In terms of Asian countries, it is very different. People are very friendly; however, everyone has a whole personal life of their own that is separate. Everyone only plays for what they have personally ordered; money is a sensitive topic. For scholarships, one needs to apply very early, and it might only be beneficial for people who actually need money and come from low-income households, as there are a lot of applicants (KCL has one of the highest numbers of students). One needs to start applying soon after joining the university and not wait for the course to end. For interviews and impressions with professors, it is necessary to understand the art of having a conversation, as the evaluations are very behavior-oriented and soft-skill-oriented besides technicality. The course is satisfactory, but for a master's degree, 1 year might seem like a very short time, as you only get to touch or overview a lot of the practical work. London is very busy and fast but also very vibrant and enjoyable; there are a lot of options for free fun too.
Likes (Public transportation): London is very well connected; one can find tubes, buses, trams, cabs, and cycles all over the city. Most of the campuses are very close to tube stations, and bus stations are available in mostly all of the areas in London. With an Oyster and Railcard, one can get some benefits on tubes and buses. However, you need to go to the station to connect the two cars and get some benefits (not available online). These are good for frequent travelers.
Dislikes (Internships): Guidance is available on campus (in limited numbers), and an online portals is available for career opportunities, but I personally could not find a relevant internship or job in my field there. On-campus positions are mostly student ambassador roles, and lab positions are mostly available for Ph.D. candidates.

It's difficult to secure sponsorships.
Tips: There is nothing in particular you should know about this university. The university is amazing and has historical significance and the faculty is great. Try to get accommodation outside the ones given by the college since the college ones are very expensive. There is no cultural shift; it depends on how outgoing a person you are and the best way to get yourself in the limelight and even to get a job, you need to be socially available and engage in conversation with people.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty was amazing, they are really caring and try to solve the issues you have regarding a particular topic as much as possible. State of the art tech and amazing libraries to help students upskill in their academics, and help you in whichever way possible.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Given the current scenario of the UK job market it's really difficult to get a sponsorship in the UK. What students generally do is take a PSW and try to get jobs. Studying abroad should be taken as a qualification to upskill yourself. For international students studying in the top universities in the UK the chances of getting a sponsorship are close to 10-15%, so keep that in mind and try to manage studies and applications for jobs at the same time.

Great course, great city, and solid experience overall.
Tips: The transition was fairly smooth. King's is in central London so the cohort is very international, which makes it easier to settle in. The bigger adjustment is London itself rather than the university. Academically, the M.Sc. Data Science movies fast so time management matters from week one.
Likes (Post study jobs): From my experience, about 50% companies I got interviews from had a sponsorship license and were willing to sponsor at the end of my graduate visa. Job roles initially can be structured as contacts with the option to extend or change to convert to permanent. On average, a graduate's salary ranges from 30,000 to 40,000 annually.
Dislikes (Value for money): More expensive than some colleges, like the University of Birmingham or University College London, offering the same course, especially for international students. On top of being in London which is more expensive than the rest of the UK by about 40%, the course is more expensive for no reason.

They don't provide placement, only guidance.
Tips: I am really satisfied with my course, it is preparing me for the real world jobs in my field. The cultural differences are there, it takes some time to adjust but making friends being social and having companions going through something similar helps the process.
Likes (Post study jobs): For my course there are plenty of jobs available in the UK. It's about making your own connections. Use LinkedIn and meet people at various job fairs, etc. To make connections. That helps mostly. It is also a good practice to keep in touch with alumni of the course and ask them about how they find jobs, what are the steps they took and what kind of connections they made.
Dislikes (Internships): There is plenty of guidance available, although they do not give placements as it's done in India. There are placement blocks, etc. which help with navigating what kind of jobs you're looking for and providing you with help on how to go about it and how to make the right connections as well as achievable goal setting.

A transformative and globally enriching experience.
Tips: Finding finance internships was tough but the school's really good about helping with jobs. You can meet with faculty one-on-one for your resume, applications and interview prep. King's even has internships during the summer after the second term. They have extra stuff like investment funds and 20 free courses, workshops, and stuff. How much you get out of it really depends on how much you put in.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty is extremely approachable and helpful. They teach well and respond quickly to emails. They taught us further by making smaller groups of 15-20 people for tutorials where personal attention is given. They taught using the latest technology and good practical knowledge. The teaching faculty is diverse; I have seen teachers from most nationalities across Europe and there were Indian teachers as well.

The teaching methodology is different and highly practical-oriented.
Tips: KCL is a premier college. The teaching there is very action oriented and practical in nature. At least as was the case in my course. The professors treat you with respect and each student is appointed a tutor who helps not only with academic issues you might be facing but also with any emotional issue you might have. They are very supportive. Learning is fast paced and you will not have plenty of time to do much else during the master's courses. I would suggest not going there with an expectation of finding a job as there is a job crisis and its particularly bad for immigrants trying to find a permanent position and the careers team at the university is of very little help. Just come with the expectation to study and learn and the environment of London will sweep you away. It's a very enriching experience.

Check out the faculty and modules before enrolling.
Tips: A student must check the modules and most importantly, the faculty. International students can apply for a discount of up to 10K GBP which is called vVce Chancellor Award. The course could have been better; it was fine but for the price I paid, I had better expectations.
Likes (Indian Food): There are plenty of food options all around London. Like in every street every corner you can get the food you want. The city offers food for every nationality but if you want to experience British food then vegetarian people might struggle with finding good food as fast food corners or local cafes lack good vegetarian food.
Dislikes (Internships): There are very less to no internships available for Master students. For undergraduate students, it's very good but not for post graduate students. Also, only students with prior work experience get the internship There are internships but mainly for undergraduates.

Good exposure and growth.
Tips: After spending a year in London, I realised the real meaning of exposure. I was glad and felt privileged that I got to experience this wonderful city. I could not avail any scholarships as the application deadline was over but there is definitely a scope for everyone to receive a scholarship. I am extremely satisfied with the experience that I had in college. It offered me the latest knowledge in my chosen field.
Likes (Indian Food): There were several types of restaurants in almost all corners of the city. King's College London is located in the heart of London and has ample of restaurants offering all types of cuisines. There is a place called Sagar, which offers amazing veg Indian food.
Dislikes (Internships): The college only organised a few work fairs at the beginning of the session. There was little to no organisation of the student communication channel so that all students from the same classroom can get to know each other. There are no on-campus corporate internships available and all students have to search for opportunities off campus.

Small campus but great student life.
Tips: I learnt what real exposure means after coming to King’s College London. I changed completely after studying for just a year. I could not avail of any scholarships. I am extremely satisfied with the quality of life and education King’s offers. The professors are extremely helpful and are always willing to guide students to the fullest. The lecture and class pattern is arranged such that students get enough time to prepare and learn on their own. The flipped classroom approach (online + offline) is something that didn’t sound good at first but the importance of it came into light later in the year.
Likes (Student Life): The college although it has a small campus size but offers a large number of club activities including sports and fitness, cultural and heritage and other forms of arts. There are several lounging spaces throughout the campus and the facilities are top notch with student mental health in mind.
Dislikes (Part time work): Work fairs and part time centric fairs were only held during the start of the session and then there were minimal to no updates on this topic. Even during these work fairs, companies explained about the roles and offered goodies but the application was still online with no real opportunity highlighted.

Select the course you are interested in, rather than just the college name.
Tips: The quality of your experience largely depends on the course you adopt or take up. Be sure to vet the contents of the course and also know of your faculty members teaching here before investing. The institution is renowned for Competition law and other allied specialities. Do your homework thoroughly before investing.
Likes (Internships): Guidance is available on the careers page of the website, and the alumni network is helpful. The alumni base on LinkedIn is also very helpful in guiding one in the application forms as to the kind of answers and responses that should be given in the application forms for an internship to materials.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The label of any university is not sufficient - work experience and individual merit matter very much. Will strongly recommend applying for internships in the UK alongside coursework, and also, if you are pursuing a Master's, then gaining some relevant work experience in your home jurisdiction first.

A great global exposure with best faculty and university.
Tips: I have seen major changes in my personality since I joined this course a year ago. From becoming a multi-tasker to widening my perspective towards cultures and people from all around the world, this growth has been a great blessing. I was not awarded any scholarship. I had the most supportive, helpful, intelligent and fun professors in my course. Made the subject matter super easy and they all had great knowledge of their subject. They encouraged doubts and would sit with you till they were all cleared. The course was structured to get the best out of students. The post-study job market is a bit harsh and it would be great if the college took more initiative in having placements for the students. Overall, I am 100% satisfied with the course, university and the country.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): If you have a great profile before your Master's - for example, 1-2 years of relevant work experience, professional degrees, etc. - then your chances of getting a post-study job are much better compared to someone going for their Master's right after undergraduate. The post-study job market is very competitive, rewarding only the best candidates.

BSc Physics - Batch of 2025

King's College London does not provide much internship opportunities.
Tips: There was not much of a cultural shift. Coming from a metropolitan city, like Delhi, to another metropolitan didn't seem like much of a difference. The only thing that is needed to get used to the city is the cost of living. Takes about a month or so to adjust to the cost of daily expenses. I did not get any scholarships as I am not eligible for any. Being an Indian male studying Physics doesn't really suit the majority of scholarships at King's. The teaching faculty is generally good but the admin staff is not that great for our department. They will always find a way to make you run around to get basic things like your marks or even exam papers. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences here.
Likes (Public transportation): Covent Garden and Holborn station are within walking distance of campus, but using public transportation can quickly become expensive if you exceed your budget. Buses are a good alternative, but convenience depends on where you live and the route you travel. The tube is definitely faster.
Dislikes (Internships): There is not much support from the university. Generally, one has to be part of the relevant student groups/societies to get an idea of how the internship process works in the field of choice. The university has some help available to review CVs/Cover Letters and a practice interview round.

The transition to London helped me gain social skills and boost confidence.
Tips: London can be incredibly expensive. However, there are several ways to find affordable ways of living as a student so ensure you do your research before moving to London. KCL and London in general are very metropolitan so there are countless cultures and ethnicities to mingle with, making it smooth and quite enjoyable. For scholarships, it's quite difficult to avail of any as most are offered to Masters students and the UK very rarely offers scholarships for international students. However, there are different ways to avail of bursaries depending on your university/course. Students should ensure they do extensive research as they tend to be hidden.
Likes (Public transportation): London's public transport is world-renowned, very well-connected, and also very easy to navigate and understand. However, it does tend to be quite expensive if you live far from the city centre. There are buses, the London Underground and the London Overground. Most train services end at night but on the weekend, there are night tubes that run late into the night so it's possible to get home after night out.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): It is quite difficult to secure a job if you're not studying for a highly-value degree. Visa sponsorship is quite easy to secure, especially at bigger firms. Again, depending on the major studied, salaries and roles can range from impossible to secure to incredible remunerative.

One of the financial hubs in the world does help you to transform.
Tips: King's College provides you with various opportunities to showcase your talent. I did transition after coming here both academically and personally. I did not get any scholarships but the college does provide them and other financial aid is available as well.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty here is really qualified with much knowledge and expertise. Most of them work in the banking and finance fields simultaneously. Friendly, helpful and very much approachable if needed. Teaching methods are also very up-to-date and provide access to financial software such as Bloomberg, Stata and MATLAB.
Dislikes (Value for money): Being an international student, 40 Lakhs of tuition fees for one year of Masters degree plus living expenses in London, with no job placement and security, the value for money is not justified. Part-time work hours for students are also very restricted.

Great but could be better
Tips: The process of shifting is quite well but learn to find all the contacts needed beforehand to solve issues. Contact people and don't hesitate. Find fixed places to eat quickly. Join forums or clubs etc. in case you will feel lonely really fast even if you have friends. Talk to everyone a little and branch out.
Likes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking myself but there are still many Indian food options in London. Most of them are quite well made as well. As for pricing, it's cheaper if you go to the restaurant and not if you order at home. Try to find places with student discounts because they have many of those.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It has quite a direct way of immigration if you're a student. There's the graduate visa option for now which can give you time to search for jobs etc. There are also a lot of immigrants which shows it's not exactly impossible. The only issue is the current government which may come out with new policies making it tough.

Tips: Studying in Charlotte is a great place to get industrial knowledge and real insights as compared to pure classroom knowledge. Classes here are fast paced and project driven. Professional opportunities are limited here and jobs are not easily available which can sometimes not seem worth the investment. Very tricky scenarios to navigate.

Safe and student-friendly.
Tips: If you're in a programme similar to mine and you're expecting more hardcore coding related aspects, you'll have to upskill yourself as my programme is flexible and interdisciplinary but doesn't consist of as much coding as one might expect. Academic advisors and my professors have been helpful whenever needed but plan it out early to avoid last minute clashes and delays. Very safe and student friendly as well and I would love to stay if I find a role aligned with data or UX.

Grateful for the opportunity.
Tips: The campus is vast and the classrooms are modern and spacious where it is easier to interact as well. People are genuinely helpful and friendly which made things a little easier. You'll have to learn to stick to a budget and meal prep like a pro. Part time work is limited on campus but is manageable if you get one.

Good and fun college with vibrant student life.
Tips: There's no cultural shift. There may be scholarships but not directly available through the university but you can always get part-time as a TA or an RA if you wanna consider that a scholarship. Everything seems fine enough, the prices aren't too high and it's livable.

Quite welcoming and friendly college.
Tips: My transition here has been quite peaceful. I was well prepared and the orientation was quite helpful in this regard. College is quite welcoming as well and there are a lot of societies and clubs to keep one occupied. A lot of diversity, so you won't feel very out of place. I am satisfied although there is room for improvement.

Good for learning and growth.
Tips: The campus has almost always been vibrant even during holidays when most leave. It took me a while to adjust to the informal atmosphere in classes such as calling professors by their first names, etc. My course is more interesting than I had thought and my peers are very friendly as well. Tuition is comparatively better than in a lot of places.

Welcoming and friendly campus.
Tips: Charlotte has been a truly welcoming place for me. Classes are interactive and you are encouraged to step out of your comfort zone in more than just academics. You can find decent research positions as well and the city is safe and pleasant, except you have to be a little extra cautious during the evening. Plenty of diversity on campus.

Great place for growth if you're consistent.
Tips: The university is not on the same level as some of the tier one and more prestigious universities but it is fast growing and has some solid programs and academics. I was expecting a lot of things to figure out after coming to campus but since I had my accommodation and banking sorted, I found it easy to settle in. The campus is lively and basketball is a big sport here.

Good faculty and environment.
Tips: My transition experience was smooth and comfortable as the orientation helps you out a lot with everything you need to know and more. Presentations were something I did not look forward to but professors here help make you ease into the process till the point you enjoy them. Foundation courses offered in the first year are quite helpful too. Job prospects are limited and mainly depend on your networking.

Tips: I have grown more self aware and culturally aware owing to the exposure and diversity on campus and I have become much more independent than I ever was even though I studied out of town for my undergrad. The university is a good choice for those looking to experiment or who are keen on getting into teaching. The campus is quite happening yet safe. Good university with consistent workload all in all.

Great place for STEM.
Tips: Coming here has been a great decision for me personally. There is good value for money as UNC is more reasonable compared to a lot of universities and is well known for STEM fields hence, this arrangement has worked in my favour. Professors are approachable and passionate as are the students. Diverse campus as well.
Likes (Student Life): The student life here is very eclectic and active. There's always something going on and something for everyone to do be it hobbies, sports, events and activities to socialize. People are also welcoming and friendly which makes it feel quite inclusive.

Tips: Good campus with friendly and hospitable people. The city is also quite student friendly and peaceful. Nightlife is not the craziest compared to some other schools. The good thing is that the campus takes its security very seriously and the classroom environment is overall quite positive and enriching. The chance of immigrating here is quite low and unpredictable as the process is very uncertain and takes a long period of time.

Interesting student experience.
Tips: I had given myself a certain amount of time to get used to the city and settle into my classes which helped my transition. There are good checklists available to let you know what to carry especially when it comes to essentials and documents. Chapel Hill is a very student friendly place but try to wrap up your work before it's too late in the night, as it can get a little too silent.
Likes (Safety): I've personally felt quite safe on campus both in daylight and even when it's dark. There are a lot of people at all times and lots of lighting as well. Patrols also happen regularly and people watch out for each other which feels quite reassuring.

Learnt a lot throughout.
Tips: The cultural transition here was okay. People are friendly which makes it easier to adjust, although there are a few barriers initially and it is important to go with the flow and respect people's boundaries in terms of space and time. There is a well-set support system in the form of advisors and peer tutoring as well as office hours if needed. There could be better resources and support for international students at least in the beginning but the sense of community makes up for it to an extent.

Honest reflections and personal growth on university life abroad (UNC Charlotte).
Tips: No matter which university you go, there is always a lot of transition that's going to happen after coming here. I personally evolved as a person, learnt some good manners and became more independent. This university doesn't offer any scholarships. None of the international students I know received a scholarship. Some universities waive the tuition if you secure a research/teaching assistant position. But here, there is no such scholarship. The university is good, very big and is a nice place. I'm really satisfied with the university except for the value for money. The course curriculum could have been better for my course (HIA). I love this country for the opportunities it gives to aspiring students and people looking to transition into a whole different world. This country makes you laugh, cry, become independent, attach more with your family back home, and gives you wings to fly to places that you never imagined.
Likes (Indian Food): With the Indian population increasing rapidly in Charlotte, there is a rise in new Indian restaurants and food trucks opening each year. I order food online a lot. Sometimes I also go to dine-in with my friends. There are Indian stores around university area which are only a few miles away near university area. I prefer cooking at home most of the time.
Dislikes (Value for money): I paid a tuition of 40 Lacs INR for 4 semesters. Schools in the United States do not offer campus placements like they do in India. Two-hour class each week for a course will not equip you with all the skills you need to secure a job. Self-learning is the key. No matter how good the faculty and the school are, if you don't study by yourself, the reputation of the school can't help. There are schools that do offer a better curriculum and a lot of ongoing research at the same fee, at least for my course. UNC Charlotte is a good option, but I don't think the tuition fee for my course MS in Health Informatics and Analytics is justified. Computer Science/IT courses have less fee than other courses.

Go Niners! A new experience.
Tips: Being more punctual, aligning my schedule properly. Nothing much of cultural shift. I did not get any scholarships. But there are few which you need to continuously monitor. I am completely satisfied with my university, course as it gives a lot of scope both academically and personally.
Likes (Indian Food): There are many Indian cuisine restaurants nearby and the pricing varies for different items and most probably each items cost could be between $1 to $20. There are other cuisines available too. I personally prefer cooking by myself, with friends and rarely at restaurants.
Dislikes (Internships): It depends on how much networking you do, and how actively you interact with people and recruiters. It is a bit difficult process but once you start into it, it's a learning, you will learn day by day. Yes, there are internships relevant to my field of study.

Its a great place for academic and to learn about various cultures.
Tips: The university does not provide any scholarships. I heard very rarely about someone getting a scholarship. Even if you get any Teaching/Research Assistantships also, compared with most of the universities you will not get any fee waiver. The faculty are very helpful and you can reach out to them anytime. The seniors are really friendly and host many events for us. I am overall satisfied with the university because of its wide variety of opportunities to learn.
