LMU is a quite academically inclined especially in the field of physics
Tips: There is quite a bit of a shift in the culture. Both in personal and study life. It takes quite some getting used to. Scholarships are quite rare since tuition is free. Personally, I did not have any. I am quite satisfied with the country, course and the university. But Germany offers a lot more to people who come purely for academics rather than a job opportunity.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transport is quite affordable, and there is good connectivity. There are metro, buses and trams. Transportation has a fixed cost for all means, which is low and paid monthly. This is further subsidised by the university and is perhaps among the cheapest in Europe.
Dislikes (Internships): There are no internship opportunities offered by the University as such. Finding them outside is quite difficult since there are quite a lot of students and Munich is an education hub. So the competition is too high, and it's up to us to find an internship, since the university mostly does not have that as a requirement.

LMU is one of the best university in Germany and is known for reasearch orientation.
Tips: No spoon-feeding. You need to know the basics of the topic before even it starts. Exams are quite hard to pass, but you get two attempts every semester. Focus on smart work rather than hard work. Culture is quite different; people here are unapproachable. And winter is also harsh. But once you get used to it. It's fine.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Professors are always there to help. They not only focus on theory but also on experimental work. Student-friendly and supportive. Always encouraging doing new things. Mostly they ask us to use reference books or research papers. And every week there is a meeting where I have to present my work to my supervisor about my research.
Dislikes (Part time work): It is really hard to get a part-time job. You need at least B2 level German language proficiency. Working student is a good option but hard to get. You get rejection here and there without any reason. And they prefer students from their country over international ones.

Tips: Honestly, getting an offer from LMU Munich is a huge deal but you need to be ready for the reality of it. Munich is an incredible city to live in but the university itself doesn't just hand you an amazing social life or easy grades. It’s a massive, traditional German uni, which means you have to be highly independent from day one.
If you put yourself out there, your weeks will be packed with exploring the city, hanging out by the Isar, and actually getting to dive into the clubs and activities you’ve always wanted to try. It completely changes your perspective on living abroad. Just don't expect a hand-held campus experience—it’s up to you to chase down the opportunities and make the city feel like home.
Likes (Student Life): As student life is full of everything, there are opportunities for growth and new people and connections from all over the world. Studying here gives you a connection to its great alumni community. You can also go to English Garden very next to the university and have a great time.
Dislikes (Part time work): Yes, even though it’s a very prestigious university, the demand for part-time work is very high, and everyone wants to work in their same field of study. So if you just want to do part-time in any field, I think it's easy to find, and the pay is also very good.

There are many internships available both academic and industry oriented.
Tips: There is a cultural shift, and knowing German can help. I came without a scholarship and had to bear most of the cost myself, which was also a valuable learning experience. I am quite satisfied with the university, especially taking into account the international friendly city of Munich. Many opportunities for fun outside of work, in sports, dance and music. I cannot speak for the whole of Germany.
Likes (Internships): There are many internships available both academic and industry oriented. As a part of the course, you must also complete 2 internships during the Master's so in some way you are encouraged, and the faculty is encouraged to have student interns. Many academic groups provide internships, which are not paid, while industrial positions often include a stipend. All the above information is regarding field-specific internships.
Dislikes (Student Life): Student life is quite different here. There is a very little community, and most friends are made during the compulsory coursework, in student dorms and shared internships. Events are organised 1-2 times per year by the faculty, and there are frequent student parties that happen at student dorms. There is one main student club in the University for academic organisation, and a few if not none, for other activities. Most students spend time at home and come to campus only for coursework.

LMU is a world class university with great facilities.
Tips: I think it's very important to be flexible. The tuition fee is cheaper but it's a very expensive deal, I feel. So you would have to accept that money can be an issue. There's a great cultural difference also, Munich people are helpful but generally upfront which can be perceived as rude but they are very direct. Scholarship opportunities are there but they are pretty competitive. I am pretty satisfied with the university, the city and the country. I would like to stay here permanently.
Likes (Value for money): I do think tuition feels is justfied as it's not a lot and the return you get is good. LMU is world famous university, you get good faculty members, and job options. You get student benefits at almost every museum and on public transport. You get deutschalnd ticket discount.
Dislikes (Part time work): I feel there are quite a lot of possibilities for part time jobs. Sometimes it can get hectic to manage studies and jobs both but doable. You get at least minimum wage everywhere which is around 12 euros per hour. I am not very sure about the on campus opportunities but off campus there are a lot of opportunities in cafes, in the football stadium.

There are different types of work visas based on the field.
Tips: Coming from India, there is a cultural shift that atleast I experienced, in terms of the environment in universities in India and here.
Since there are no tuition fees at LMU for most of the courses, the scholarships are limited. There are organisations that offer scholarships but have requirements such as language proficiency among others. I availed a merit based scholarship after my first year based on my grades wherein I got 650 euros for 5 months for one semester.
My course was highly academic and rigorous and comparably at par with other top universities offering Economics at Masters level. The university always had an atmosphere that pushed me in every way to better myself, be it doing better in exams or participating in extra-curricular activities such as exchange programs, seminars and projects. I was more than satisfied with my choice of course, university and country.
Likes (Student Life): There are many groups, clubs and communities that one can join ranging from sports, academics to recreational.
Regarding the events that are organised on the campus, there are many faculty organised events, for example, industry oriented projects, career fairs, guest lectures and seminars.
There are also other community events such as semester parties, university fests and sports events. There is always something happening.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Although the course is offered in English but for good job prospects, post degree, it’s very important to have German language proficiency at least B1-B2. There are jobs that are in English but very few and highly competitive.
In Germany, it is generally not required for companies to offer sponsor visas for work. If you are successful in getting an offer, you could simply apply for a work visa with the job contract. Important to note here is that there are different types of work visas based on the field; bottleneck professions such as STEM and Medical and salary limits, Blue card salary limits.
Job roles and salary packages depend solely on the field of study and the previous experience though working in student positions and internships as a student. MSc Economics graduates usually work in finance, taxes, banking and consulting and ofcourse there are PhD opportunities after the Masters.

LMU is a great place for people who are initiative takers.
Tips: The administration here is not that great. Things every student must know aren't really unannounced anywhere. You must proactively get yourself added to WhatsApp and Telegram groups, which certainly exist, no matter your course, and keep track of information there. Life here is slightly convenient. Supermarket closes by 8 pm; commuting to university takes around 30 min; dinner needs to be made at home; ordering food from restaurants is expensive around 15 euros for a meal. It can also be isolating, not just academically. In India, one is used to knowing their classmates and their lecturers. Here, due to the amount of flexibility we have, it is usual for you to only know 3-4 of your classmates throughout your course, depending on which subjects you choose. Taking initiative is what will change your life. Or being good friends with someone else who does. You must also be proactive in discussing tutorials and attending lectures. Also, in making friends. Be proactive and make sure you meet friends every once in a while. Otherwise, it is easy to get too stressed out. Don't take too many courses, keep it to 12 credits for the first semester.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part-time jobs are available in Munich. You will get one for sure, if you look around, within 2-3 months or so. However, it is tedious to find them. There is no single unified portal where all such jobs are advertised. Instead, one must be proactive in seeking them: searching different groups, talking to different group leaders. Even if there are no job openings in their groups, they often offer proactive students work. This is a lot of work, but doable.

Tips: The transition relied heavily on getting used to the German weather. Munich as a city can get extremely cold in the winter and a lot of bureaucratic as well as home maintenance work requires effort as well as at least a basic understanding of the German language. While the University itself is extremely diverse and while a large fraction of the staff at cafes, restaurants or grocery stores are able to communicate in English using German as a language to approach individuals (outside the University) can become a useful skill.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty members that I worked and studied with are not only highly qualified but are also extremely accommodating and approachable with conceptual difficulties as well as bureaucratic needs. If they are unable to help you out, they refer you to the relevant authorities who would definitely help you out.

Finding my research identity in LMU.
Tips: There is one important thing that everyone should know especially about LMU and my course in particular. I came here thinking I would finish my degree in 2 years and transition to a PhD. But I am going to start my master's thesis at the end of my 2nd year. It is quite normal here to finish the degree at your own pace. That was a major culture shock for me, since in India, masters is considered a 2 year commitment. LMU offers a lot of scholarships to international students such as Deutschland Stipendium and LMU SIST Scholarships. I am very much satisfied with LMU and Munich in general.
Likes (Student Life): LMU has amazing student life. You could meet different kinds of people from different sets of society and are also exposed to a multitude of cultures. Over the past 2 years, I have only been on the college campus for a few months to attend mandatory courses, after which I designed my courses such that I don't have to go to campus regularly. I spent my remaining time exploring labs, working different types of part-time jobs and travelling.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): For the field of Biology post-study jobs majorly narrow down to PhD. And the pay for Ph.D. is enough to survive everywhere. If you are coming with the expectation of getting an indutsry based jobs, it might take a lot of effort and time.

Best student life and friendly people.
Tips: It was a life-changing transition for me. I became more independent and aware of myself. Most of the mundane things like grocery shopping, keeping your space clean, cooking, etc., may sound easy on paper, but this is where you get to know a lot of things about yourself. I also made good friends in my German class as well as where I used to work part-time. I enjoyed every bit of my time in Munich. LMU Munich has some of the best research facilities and the faculty here, in one way or another, have all worked with Nobel Laureates. The course has also been structured in such a way that it gives you a lot of freedom to choose your courses and internships. Germany as a country is great to live in, apart from all the paperwork you have to be ready for.
Likes (Student Life): The best thing about studying in Munich is the student life. You will never get bored. There are ample things to do. The best way to emerge with local and make friends is to enrol yourself in any sport/music/dance activity at the Olympia Park. You can enrol through your university and most of the prices are very nominal for students. Apart from this, you can enjoy the beer garden and travel to any part of the city through its amazing public transportation. There are also a lot of options to enrol in a language course through the university as well, where you can make friends within your class. The best thing is that your fee will be refunded if you pass the exam. In addition, my campus and the faculty of Biology always had fun events to organize, especially for freshers, like sightseeing, visits to museums, ice skating, and trekking in the Alps. During Christmas time, we also have a potluck dinner, bonfires, and lots of baking.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Not any fixed number. Most of the MNCs offer sponsored work visas. Even start-ups actively look for international talent. Job roles and salary packages depend on the domain area. For IT and finance, you can expect to get paid more than in other avenues. The important thing to keep in mind when applying for jobs is that the role needs to align well with your background. In addition, knowledge of the German language is a critical criteria as well to land jobs.

A great university for bioscience and to get to know the world.
Tips: It is a great university, at least in the domain of biology. You will get enough opportunities to connect with various world-renowned faculty, meet great people at conferences, and talk. The lab atmosphere and the university curriculum are also wonderfully planned.
Likes (Internships): A regular day at LMU would be attending lectures, socializing at the mensa (canteen) and getting to know your cohort. If you are performing internships or mini-jobs, you can also beat the respective labs or institutions or companies where you are performing them. Events like seminars, workshops etc. are conducted by various faculty members and are happening almost every day on the campus. There are a lot of student clubs and communities as well, where you can freely join.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The faculty at LMU Munich is very approachable. Apart from being professors who take care of your lectures, they also turn into your guides if you do further internships with them in their labs. Professors mostly refer to relevant research and review articles and various textbooks while preparing the documents for the lecture. The faculty is not very diverse, at least in the case of Biology but they are very accommodating.

Tips: Before joining the college, one should know they are going to be joining one of the most prestigious and top-ranked university. The studies will be hard, and your classmates will be among the best in the world. Be prepared to put in the work and possess a strong mathematical background.
Likes (Internships): As a European Student, you have a lot of opportunities to work on international projects and collaborations. The professors are open and willing to take on students if they have the time and funding. Plus, there are many Max Planck Institutes where you can go for internships.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The German language is compulsory for the Permanent Settlement. The waitlist is for 5 years (studies not included). There is a test for citizenship or PR for which you have to study enough. It is a slow time taking process that needs immense patience and paperwork.

The university is great with good faculty and easy and affordable transportation.
Tips: The college is great. It has a good library and open-minded and helpful professors. Since the college is in Munich, a lot of people speak/know English so it is easy for people who don't speak German, although will advise them to learn it as it can be helpful in the future for the long run. There are scholarships for students, you can check the university website for details as I have not availed of any so don't know much about it. Get ready for a cultural shift because it's different here. The shopping experience, public transport, and paperwork for city registration and such. And one most important thing, getting good accommodation is tough, so be prepared to compromise a bit at least in the start.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The Indian food in restaurants is either too expensive and/or not as good. There are Indian shops but not as many, so might have to travel to get the things. Overall, if you want to have Indian food without paying too much, you have to make it yourself and good Indian street food is rare.

Tips: The main problem you'll face will be finding accommodation in Munich. So if you are planning to come, start looking as soon as possible. Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty here at LMU is best. They teach what they are currently researching on. All the syllabus is on the current laboratory status. The faculty is very friendly, easy-going, helpful, encouraging and fun. They know what they are teaching and they really have interest to teach the students and clear their doubts.
Dislikes (Part time work): It's difficult to get part time work even if there is an offer of a good job, there will be a lot of applications. There is always a possibility of you not getting a part time student job. So, the competition is very high to apply for a student job.

Tips: The main thing to know before starting at ULMS is that UK Master's programs are heavily self-driven. Nobody is going to babysit your deadlines—you have to manage your time, tackle long reading lists independently, and stay consistent from week one. Moving to Liverpool was a great decision, though. The local community and international student body are exceptionally welcoming, which takes the stress out of adapting to life in the UK.
Likes (Student Life): 4/5 for Student Life at Liverpool:
Unbeatable student city: Liverpool is lively, affordable, and revolves entirely around its massive student community.
Easy to make friends: Highly international student body makes building a social circle seamless.

Dislikes (Value for money): Value for money gets a 2/5 simply because dropping £28,000 on a one-year Master's felt way too steep for the amount of actual teaching we got. A huge chunk of the course ended up being self-directed study rather than structured contact hours. When you're paying that kind of international tuition fee, you expect intensive face-to-face lectures, hands-on workshops, and direct industry connections—not just being handed a reading list and left to figure things out on your own.

Tips: Moving to Liverpool would require them to be well prepared mentally and physically , as the weather is quite cold during the period of winter. Likes (Safety): I rated safety to be a 5 because the campus and student areas felt much secure with CCTV and security being around at all times. Liverpool felt like almost a 2nd home it welcoming overall, had no major issues and my time there cruised away quickly .

Tips: Do thorough research on the immigration laws. This is the part most students who come here with an ambition of landing a job forget about. If you're coming to this country solely for the purpose of education, I would wholeheartedly recommend it, especially Liverpool as a city. It is vibrant and beautiful with so much diversity and people from all backgrounds.
Likes (Indian Food): Liverpool is a beautiful city and has multiple options for Indian cuisine. I do cook for myself. It's still a struggle if you have to eat outside often; every student must learn how to do simple cooking, or your food expenses will be over budget. So finish some cooking sessions with your family before arriving.
Dislikes (Internships): There was good guidance provided on securing internships and jobs. There is a career service that provides CV checks too and helps you get to your goal. We also have internships on campus that pay you; some are related to your course, and some are generic student ambassador part-time job opportunities.

Tips: If you're heading to the University of London, you need to realize pretty quickly that the academic workload is a massive step up and nobody is going to babysit you. If you don't stay disciplined, you will fall behind before you even realize it.
Coming from an Indian classroom setup, the group project dynamics here will probably give you a bit of a shock. You can't just coast along or let one person do all the heavy lifting; the professors and your peers expect everyone to pull their weight equally.
Living in London is a total whirlwind that forces you to grow up overnight. The cultural shift is very real—people here heavily value their personal space, strict punctuality, and direct communication. It takes some serious adjusting, especially navigating a fast-paced, massive city while managing your own budget and time. But honestly, surviving and thriving in this environment completely builds your confidence and changes how you operate both personally and professionally
Likes (Public transportation): I gave it a 5 because getting around Liverpool as a student is honestly incredibly easy and doesn't blow a hole in your budget. You’ve got Arriva and Stagecoach buses constantly running right past the main campus buildings, so whether you're trying to get home to a student house on Smithdown Road late at night or just heading down into the city center, you never have to wait long. Grabbing a student bus pass makes commuting incredibly cheap and if you ever need to travel a bit further out you can just hop on the Merseyrail network or catch a train from Lime Street station. The whole transit system is tight, reliable, and easily one of the best parts about living here—it just completely removes the stress of figuring out how to commute every day.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I gave post-study jobs a 3 because the reality of staying in the UK after graduating rides entirely on finding a company willing to sponsor your visa—and honestly, that pool of employers is shrinking by the day. It has nothing to do with the quality of the degree and everything to do with immigration red tape. While the big players down in London or the NHS do sponsor visas, their hiring bars are insanely high, the selection processes are brutal, and you are competing against thousands of other graduates for a handful of slots.
If you manage to break through, you're looking at a starting salary of around £25k to £35k for an entry-level role, which might bump up to the £45k–£55k range once you get a few years of solid experience under your belt. But the catch—especially for a lot of international grads in tech or finance—is making sure your starting salary even meets the strict new UK visa thresholds. Living up here in Liverpool is great, but the job hunt itself is an absolute mental marathon. You can't just casually apply to random listings; you have to spend hours vetting every single employer to see if they're even on the official home office sponsors list before you even bother updating your CV.

Great University (tough job market)
Tips: Look, Liverpool is great, but you need to be realistic before you pack your bags. Landing a graduate job here is a proper dogfight, and finding a boss who will actually sponsor your visa straight away is damn near impossible. Most of the international crowd just relies on the two-year Graduate Route visa after finishing up, which basically gives you a breathing room to look for roles elsewhere—like moving down to Manchester or London if the Liverpool job market leaves you hanging.
On the bright side, your wallet won't take nearly as much of a beating here. Rent and groceries are ridiculously cheap compared to anything down south, which takes a massive load off your mind. Just make sure you apply for those international merit scholarships the second you get your offer to knock down the tuition costs. And seriously, buy a heavy coat, not an umbrella. Tips: Be open to the fact that you might not get a part-time job nearby your campus, and you might have to commute to some place else for it as well. Have a good financial backup before coming to this country and not just with the thought that I'll sort everything once I reach there.
Likes (Indian Food): Multiple Indian-origin restaurants and stalls, as well as shops selling Indian food materials, are available nearby. So making or buying Indian food is not an issue; it's just the spice level that differs. Everything else is pretty much the same as in India.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It's less about the university and more about the country's restrictions. Amazing first time living so far from home. I've made so many international and Indian friends.
Tips: Cultural shift is bound to happen when you travel across continents but every shift isn’t supposed to be bad. There is so much to learn so many people to meet. It sure is scary but nothing comes easy in life unless you have generational wealth. Jokes apart studying abroad in a vibrant city like Liverpool definitely builds character and confidence and prepares you for adult life.
Likes (Student Life): Student life here is actually balanced and great, with tons of part time opportunities especially with the football clubs around. It’s a very fun place to be. I’ve worked part time here for a couple of the biggest companies here like Boots, Sainsbury, LFC and Everton football clubs and it’s truly going to be a part of my life forever that I cherish.
Dislikes (Internships): I haven’t landed one through uni so it’s hard for me to comment on that. There are none through the uni if I’m sure but if you look hard enough there’s plenty out of it. You have to be persistent in your search and be patient even if that seems very hard at times.

Tips: The university campus is tremendous. It's beautiful, the quality of teaching is marvellous. The only downside is its difficulty of getting a part-time job. It is not that easy. It's a small city with a limited number of opportunities apart from all these things. I availed 4000 of a scholarship.
Likes (Value for money): The University of Liverpool is part of the Russell Group, so the standard of teaching and faculty is quite high. The living costs in Liverpool is very low compared to London. My tuition fee is around 27,000 per year for the course of M.Sc. Marketing.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are very few food options as an international student and you struggle to find them in a restaurant. The city is not that huge. There are limited options. There are mainly Chinese restaurants. There are Indians in Pakistani restaurants as well, but they also lack the relatively authentic food.
