It's a bit challenging to find part-time work in the first semester.
Tips: Come to the university 15 days before the semester starts and look for part-time work. Try to secure one, but if you can't, that's okay. After the semester begins, focus on getting an internship. Reach out to seniors to learn how to apply for internships and connect with people on LinkedIn. It will be a bit stressful and overwhelming initially, so try to manage your time. Concentrate on internships and jobs. It's very important to surround yourself with ambitious friends, as word-of-mouth is key – the more you talk about internships and jobs, the more you'll learn. So, get involved, mingle with people, and attend university events, especially during your first year. Distributed Systems is a good course, but it's demanding. If you're truly interested, go for it; otherwise, maybe not. However, if you take the course, learn it thoroughly and showcase your projects effectively, the market for Distributed Systems is currently strong.
Likes (Value for money): This is the best and most affordable school in New York, but the room rent is high. If you have a part-time job, around 90% of your earnings might go towards rent. The tuition fee is approximately 35,000 dollars. Part-time jobs typically pay around 16 per hour; consider seeking Research Assistant positions, as they often offer higher pay.
Dislikes (Part time work): It's a bit challenging to find part-time work in the first semester, but if you keep searching, you might find something by the second semester. If not, that's okay; you'll likely find opportunities in your second year as seniors graduate. Having a part-time job can significantly reduce your financial burden.

BS in Health Science - Batch of 2029
4.3
Amazing with great career opportunities.
Tips: It's tough to get in as the acceptance rate is 42%, but once you do, you will be able to enjoy scholarship opportunities, a cooperative university, and competitive academics. You will also enjoy overall well-being and no stress, as well as a stress-free, accommodating campus. Job opportunities are high as there is a renowned hospital on campus, which provides hands-on experience. On experience for pupils in courses of healthcare/public. Health and also have a GSU curriculum other than the core curriculum, so this helps a lot when considering fees and expenditure.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): In the USA, immigration is really strict. There are a lot of rules about which visas qualify for permanent residency or citizenship. Because of this, it’s tough to get permanent immigration status on an F1 student visa. Working on campus is only allowed for 20 hours a week, so you should plan accordingly.

Value for money university to join.
Tips: At the outset, I encountered challenges with food, but I gradually adjusted and found ways to adapt. Although I did not receive any scholarships, I managed to navigate through my university without major financial training. Overall, I am quite content with my university choice, as I believe the education and experience it offers justify the cost.

MS in Data Science - Batch of 2025

Public Research University.
Tips: I had the dream of coming to master in USA from a young age after seeing my relatives and others come here. After my undergrad, I did a job for 1 year as SDE and decided to go for Masters. I applied to many universities and the best I got was at Stony brook university MSCS so I decided to pursue my MS in this university. The acceptance rate is an average of around 48%. I have just done my 1st sem. Did 3 subjects and got good grades. There were medium to hard subjects but done with them somehow. Prepare hard for getting into the University as it is getting tough to get into. Consult students who are studying here. It is good for your future. I am satisfied with the university, course and country.
Likes (Indian Food): The Stony Book university is in the middle of New York and there are lot of Indian food here. From South to North every option is available. The restaurant owners are Indians also. The Indian population here won't let you miss Indian food. I prefer cooking myself because New York is so expensive and I still eat outside on weekends. So there is no problem with food options in our country. You'll see a lot of options for Indian food outside Stony Book University.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): This University is good and it's well recognised. Many MNC's visit for placements but due to the current scenario, it is tough to get a good table job after studies. Applying for 100's of internships but getting rejected for all, as situations are bad at present for current job situations. The package varies from degree and it's one of the best universities in New York, so there are a lot of options for Post-study jobs. It will take some time for everything to come back to normal.

Part-time jobs are less but tuition fee is also lesser on comparison.
Tips: Stony Brook University is one of the highly ranked university in the US and also the no.1 public university in the state of New York. It can be challenging at times with academics but put in the effort and it should be manageable and one should be able to adjust to the fast paced life as to not fall behind on academics and internships. When it comes to part time, the options are very low for the graduate student and getting one can be considered lucky, so this is not the college if you want to rely entirely on part-time. Tuition fee is low compared to other colleges but housing is expensive. Assistantships are also tough to get if you haven't been offered one on admission

Value for money university
Tips: Culturally very accepting, super easy on students, especially Indian origin has a good community to live on campus, and good diversity as well. Relatively tougher, but students do get RA positions with tuition funded and a good stipend. I am totally satisfied with the university and with the country.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): US is a tough place if you are concerned with permanent settlement, but the quality of education and industry exposure is top-tier. Very few other countries would provide this experience with such minds to collaborate and this is super important for personal growth. Given a chance to permanently migrate here, I would not choose to.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Middle eastern and Indian food available are relatively good prices. There are a few canteens, marketplaces and dining halls which provide diverse options and fairly standard prices. Some options are mac and cheese for 2.5$, salad bowls for 4$, full course bowls for 10$

Rigorous and smooth administration
Tips: Rigorous study environments, relaxed international community, good number of international students and professors. There we have healthy competitions and great exposure to different social events to build all round developments. Indian students are good in numbers here.
Likes (Safety): Very safe on campus community. Campus police departments is well-staffed and trained to ensure the safety of the student. The university has strict policies and procedures in place to prevent crime and respond to emergencies. Stony brook university also has a number of resources for students such as 24-hour emergency response team.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Not many options for economical Indian food nearby. There are only a few restaurants which can give Indian food. The lack of demand for that type of cuisine may be one reason for that. Along with that, there are separate bodies which provide only American food.

Cheap and affordable education.
Tips: The university is one of the cheapest in the US and you will be able to find a good network of people who stays with you on-campus. It is located in the Suffolk County on Long Island in New York state. The grocery stores are very far but you can get shuttles to go there.
Likes (Safety): The university is situated in Stony Brook, Long Island which is a very sparsely populated city in Long Island, New York. So the university is very much isolated from the rest of the cities. There is no concern about mugging and other crimes which usually happen in cities. So it is very safe.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part time work is difficult to get on-campus and we are not allowed to work off-campus during the semester. There is a lot of competition as everyone wants to get part-time job to lower their burden on tuition fees and get some funding for their living expenses.

A practical, career-focused program with strong support and opportunities.
Tips: UNCC offers a flexible curriculum with strong technical courses. Be prepared for hands-on projects, presentations, and teamwork. The campus has good labs, software access, and student resources. Charlotte has many job opportunities in the tech and finance sectors. Start early on coding, resume building, and networking. Transition was challenging initially due to independence and self-learning. Cultural shift included being punctual, direct communication, and class participation. Group projects often include diverse peers, which helps in learning. You'll learn life skills like cooking, budgeting, and time management. Joining student groups helps ease homesickness and build community. I got a Graduate Assistantship after my first semester. It covered part of the tuition and gave a monthly stipend of ~$800. I applied early and had a strong resume and good GPA. Networking with professors also helped me secure the role. Some scholarships offer in-state tuition waivers, saving more costs. Overall, I'm satisfied with UNCC's faculty, course quality, and campus support. The MSIT programme is industry-relevant and offers useful electives. Studying in the US brings great exposure and job prospects. Career fairs and internships help prepare for full-time roles. Despite some challenges, the experience is rewarding and valuable.

Its a great place for academic and to learn about various cultures.
Tips: The university does not provide any scholarships. I heard very rarely about someone getting a scholarship. Even if you get any Teaching/Research Assistantships also, compared with most of the universities you will not get any fee waiver. The faculty are very helpful and you can reach out to them anytime. The seniors are really friendly and host many events for us. I am overall satisfied with the university because of its wide variety of opportunities to learn.

A cozy cultural haven with room to grow.
Tips: Learning to live independent is something that Masters teaches you. It is experienced that cultural differences may rise while relating to a new area. However, given the current trend in Indian population growth, this place is our native. Honestly, a lot of events are celebrated with the same grandeur as in India. There aren't many scholarships offered by UNCC, and I hardly ever saw anyone get one. I think UNCC is an excellent place to study and live, with a well-run curriculum and decent living expenses. When compared to other states, Charlotte's weather is actually quite pleasant.
Likes (Public transportation): There are public bus stops on campus as well as two light rail station that provide convenient access to the city. Buses are available throughout the campus for travel between locations. Additionally, all public transit, including the light rail and public buses, is free for students with a UNCC ID.
Dislikes (Internships): There are really few opportunities to get internships because of the current state of the market. Although there are a lot of companies attending the career fair, as of right now, none of them are interested in sponsoring visas. Thus, it's really hard to find an internship these days.

Very few companies sponsor F1 visas, making it difficult to find a job.
Tips: I haven't noticed a significant cultural shift, as there are many Indians here, and you'll be surrounded by them. I also wasn't satisfied with the university because I didn't have a scholarship, and they don't offer them.
Likes (Indian Food): I live in Charlotte, and there are many Indian restaurants and food trucks nearby. The prices are affordable. For example, biryani costs $12, and dosa costs 9. As a South Indian, I've tried all the South Indian restaurants, and they're good. I feel the restaurants here are more South Indian in style, but I prefer both.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Very few companies sponsor F1 visas, making it difficult to find a job. There are job opportunities across all domains, particularly in Computer Science. Big tech companies, such as Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft, often provide sponsorships.

A diverse and career focused experience at UNC Charlotte.
Tips: Before joining UNC Charlotte, a student should know that it's a diverse, research-oriented university with strong programming in engineering and computer science. The campus is large and active, so time management and initiative are key to thriving here. Transitioning here involves adapting to a more independent learning style and a multicultural environment. Transitioning here was smooth academically, but I did experience a cultural shift in terms of communication style and learning approach, which gradually helped me grow more confident and open-minded. I received a merit-based scholarship, awarded based on my academic profile and statement of purpose. The scholarship covered part of my tuition, making a big difference financially. I am extremely satisfied with my university, the course structure, and the country's welcoming atmosphere.
