Great Univesity in terms of student life and academics. Affordable for every student
Tips: Moving out here brings a pretty visible cultural shift, so your best bet is to gather as much information as you can before you actually arrive. When it comes to the Computer Science program at TU Dortmund, the course definitely has its highs and lows. It is incredibly heavy on theory and math which can be exhausting but the sheer depth they go into gives you some really interesting insights into how the university approaches the field.
Honestly, Germany is easily one of the best countries for international students when you weigh up all the perks and subsidized benefits. The one massive thing you have to brace yourself for, though, is how insanely strict the university rules are, especially once the exam season hits. TU Dortmund does not mess around during finals—the regulations are rigid, and you really have to stay on top of your game to survive the pressure.

The course is interesting but not easy to complete in 4-semesters and requires more effort.
Tips: The PSE course is not easy, and students have to put in a lot of effort and time to complete the course. There are a few who couldn't complete the course in 4 years, too. But the course is very structured and up to date, with very interesting subjects to study and further work. The department is quite demanding, and the number of courses per semester is high, which is why students take more than 4 semesters to complete. So, you need to be prepared to do the hard work accordingly. I haven't applied to any scholarships, but students joining here can apply for the DAAD scholarship and the Deutschland stipendium for BCI students. I am satisfied with the course structure as it is interesting to me. I recommend that applicants go through the course structure and the department's modules handbook before joining. Along with these, it is important as a process engineer to learn German, which is not easy. So, I recommend to start leraning German before coming here.
Likes (Public transportation): Dortmund is well-connected by public transport. It is very convenient to travel to the university or any other place. The local transport is free, it is included in the semester fee that students pay every semester. The Deutschland ticket is included in the Semesterbeitrag.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are very limited off-campus part-time job opportunities for students who are fluent in German. On-campus jobs are also scarce and are usually available only if there is a vacancy in a lab or if a student has good grades. Some students are unable to find any part-time work at all. Managing a part-time job alongside this course is challenging, and students who plan to work while also learning German typically take more than four semesters to complete the programme. Average pay varies depending on the workplace and the number of hours worked, but the minimum wage is 13.9/hour with a maximum of 20 working hours per week.

Fun student life; lots of sports and clubs.
Tips: I could do lots of sports which also helped me find many local friends. I learn from them not only their language but also their culture and how they have friendships. I feel good that Dortmund is a city that has many opportunities for everything.
Likes (Value for money): There are lots of Indian restaurants and other cuisines available but I prefer cooking for myself to manage my expenses. The University Canteen offers cheap food so whenever I can't cook, I eat at the University. If we miss some good foods from our home but can't prepare them on our own, we can eat at the restaurants. They aren't so expensive but frequent eating will be expensive.
Dislikes (Student Life): I usually attend the lectures and do sports in the evening at university. I especially love the many sports activities available. There are variety of events especially representing unity in diversity. I usually enjoy the International Cultural Fest where we represent each country's traditional food and culture.

Studying in Germany can be a bit difficult but the tuition fee is zero.
Tips: You should know that getting into college is a bit difficult, and even after getting in, the exams and everything, especially in Germany. I think if you work hard here and you come with that mindset you will do well.
Likes (Value for money): I think the tuition fee in Germany is zero and it is really good here because you get to learn a lot of quality stuff, but of course, to balance it out, the course will be very difficult. The value for money is going to be very good, but you have to be hard working.
Dislikes (Part time work): I think it is fairly easy to get part time work, especially for working in hot fields like artificial intelligence and you might be able to if you are decently hardworking and the pay is also fine. Especially in hot fields like software, you have an option.

Multi activity university with referrals.
Tips: The Technical University of Dortmund has many study plans that are difficult to navigate. The school does have the option to study abroad, and students can work with an academic advisor to help them navigate the selection of classes. Language is also a big part of the experience, and it's important to consider how your language skills will help you study. The study pattern is completely different from our country. Referral and planned plans can help you explore better. Balancing life and studies is the most difficult part.
Likes (Part time work): There are multiple part-time jobs but they are engrossing and tiring. Diverting focus from studies to earning money during study time. Part-time jobs are difficult to find during the intake time as all people are applying at the same time. Also, it might be that you need to travel for part-time jobs a lot.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are no campus placement options. You need to struggle yourself to find a job. Also finding English-speaking jobs is more difficult. Even if the course is in English companies are not that friendly to allow you to work with it. German is a must to have a career in Germany.

Challenging yet interesting international experience.
Tips: Learning German until the B1 level is compulsory. The weather during winter can be extremely difficult. The courses in the university are very intensive, and mostly oriented for Ph.D. aspirants. I didn't have any scholarship, hence I did a couple of technical as well as non-technical part-time jobs to support my finances. The university provides free education and only charges a small administrative fee for university degrees. The quality of education is excellent, and you can learn a lot from the co-curricular activities and develop many soft skills, such as representation skills and scientific paper presentations. Overall, I am highly satisfied with the course and the university.
Dislikes (Safety): There are Neo-Nazi Demonstrations sometime during the years, and a lot going on in the city that is difficult for international students to be aware of. Some areas in Dortmund Dorstfeld are not considered to be safe to visit during quiet hours. As an international student, you have to always carry your ID and stay alert if you find someone suspicious while travelling.

An overall good experience but a tough curriculum.
Tips: Germany overall is a nice experience, but knowing German is a must. Even if the course is in English many of the locals won't communicate in English (government officials as well). This is not the case in big international cities like Munich or Berlin but for Dortmund, you need to know some basic German. As far as this course is concerned i.e. Masters in data Science, one should be prepared to face a curriculum which is more into Statistics. If you already have a knowledge of stats, this course won't be that difficult (especially mandatory stats subjects) but for the rest, it's hard.

A perfect Academic course for Transportation Enthusiast
Tips: About the university, course and country its sport on if you are willing to learn German language. Even for the part time and after graduation German language skill is very important. I didn't get any scholarships or something. I have managed my finance by own. Also before joining the course please review the course first as I have seen lot of people who quite the course after 2-3 semester because the don't able to complete the exams.
Likes (Value for money): RWTH Aachen is an absolute steal when it comes to what you're actually getting for your money. Because it’s a public German university, there are zero actual tuition fees. You only have to pay a relatively small semester fee twice a year, and honestly, the perks completely cover that cost on their own. The biggest highlight is that this fee includes the country-wide Deutschlandsemesterticket. Having that means you can hop on any regional train, bus, or metro across the entire country for completely free. Just using it to travel around North Rhine-Westphalia or take weekend trips out of Aachen makes the semester contribution worth it.
Dislikes (Indian Food): As an Indian vegetarian, it is hard sometimes to find vegetarian food outside, so you should have to manage cooking with studying and a part-time job. I always prefer to cook at home rather than eating out, as it saves much more cost. But yes, you can also find Indian restaurants here in Germany. There are also Indian grocery stores where you can buy Indian groceries. Apart from that, German supermarkets also have the most common groceries like fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.

A wonderful experience at a word class university
Tips: A cultural shift will always be there but has become a bit easier as there are a large number of Indian students who come there every semester. Scholarships as such are directly limited. There are a few programs that give financial support based on academic performance. I did receive a one-time payment from such a program in the first semester. The university is one of the best in the world; of course, I would say it could have been structured a bit better; didn't feel like a specialization at the end. Germany is great all around if you speak the language.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Most of the faculty are experts in their field of study. They also have a large amount of teaching experience, which allows them to convey things quite easily, which makes it easier to understand for students as well. The course layout designed makes the lectures a lot more interactive.
Dislikes (Value for money): I had to rate value for money on the lower side because, honestly, the financial train of being here keeps creeping up with every new intake. If you're doing one of the specialized or international academy courses, the actual tuition fees are incredibly steep—especially when you realize you could get a practically identical degree for free at other public German universities. Even for the standard programs, between the rising semester contribution and the ballooning cost of rent in Aachen, it starts adding up fast. Half the time, it feels like you're just paying a massive premium just to have the RWTH Aachen brand name on your resume. The university rides incredibly hard on its reputation as this elite TU9 school, but the reality on the ground is just overcrowded lectures, completely brutal exam fail rates, and useless administrative support. Honesty, it makes you question why you're burning through so much cash and sanity for a piece of paper.

Tips: The best part about RWTH Aachen is that tuition is basically nonexistent for almost every course. You just have to shell out around €300 each semester but that’s not actually tuition—it’s a student contribution fee and it covers your Semesterticket, which gives you free public transit across the entire state.
But here’s the catch you can't ignore: you need German, period. Even if your specific master's or bachelor's degree is taught entirely in English and you can get by on campus just fine, the bubble bursts the second you try to find work. Aachen is a massive tech and engineering hub, but local companies and startups expect you to actually communicate with their teams.
If you want to land a solid student job (HiWi) on campus, a part-time corporate gig or a full-time role after you graduate having a strong grasp of German is a total game-changer. Without it, you're competing for a tiny fraction of English-only roles, which makes the job hunt way more stressful than it needs to be.

Tips: You absolutely have to learn the language here. Likes (Public transportation): We have good connectivity to the campus. The travel fees are included in the semester ticket. So you don't need to pay again. There are no teams in Aachen. But there are buses in every 15 minutes. Aachen's public transit features an extensive ASEAG bus network and regional rail from Aachen Hauptbahnhof. Good university but Learn German before coming
Tips: There is no campus placement concept here in Germany. You can avail scholarships; go through the website carefully—there are multiple options. I also got a scholarship. I am very satisfied with my course and university. For me personally, there was no culture shift. But for someone coming here, I would suggest familiarizing oneself with the rules and culture before shifting via the internet.
Likes (Student Life): Aachen is honestly just built for students, so finding your crowd and mixing with people from all over the world is a breeze. I actually did a stint as the HR for the INCAS group—which is this massive student org dedicated entirely to helping international students settle in—so I saw firsthand how crazy active the whole community is.
Aside from INCAS, RWTH Aachen has an absolute ton of stuff to do outside of classes. The university sports scene or Hochschulsport is massive plus there are countless cultural groups, music clubs, or random project teams depending on what you're into. It’s the kind of campus where you’re never just stuck sitting in a lecture hall. There's always some event or meetup happening which makes it super easy to build a solid network and actually have a life while you're here.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I'm giving it 3 stars mainly because the job market for English speakers is honesty pretty tough. Most places in Germany really push for German fluency, which makes the whole hunt way more of a headache and takes forever. That being said, if you're in Teach, you might have a bit of an easier time since they're usually a lot more relaxed about the language requirements compared to other fields.

A Challenging but Rewarding Academic Journey
Tips: Look, if you’re actually coming to RWTH, you’ve got to be ready to stay on top of your own stuff—it is definitely not the type of place where you can just coast. Trying to cram for exams like two weeks before is basically just a disaster waiting to happen, so you’ve really got to keep at it all semester. If I could give one tip, it’d be to sit down and map out your courses right at the start so you don’t end up totally drowning in work later on. And honestly? Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t finish in exactly two years. Most people take about two and a half once they factor in the internship and the thesis, and companies actually seem to prefer that extra experience anyway. Also—definitely, definitely brush up on your math, especially calculus. It’ll make everything way less of a headache once you’re actually in the thick of it.
Likes (Value for money): Even though there’s a fee for the CAME program, they actually have quite a few scholarships you can look into. Plus, it’s still way cheaper than most other places in Europe, and honestly, the quality you get is worth the price tag. Most other courses in Germany are free anyway, which takes a huge weight off your shoulders financially. One thing I'd suggest is looking for a HiWi spot—it's usually not too hard to find one at the better unis, and it’s a great way to make some extra cash while actually learning the technical side of things. Also, Aachen is much easier on the wallet than other cities. Like, if you were in Munich, you'd probably be spending nearly double on rent and stuff compared to what you’ll pay here.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Honestly trying to land a job in Germany after a Master’s is just brutal lately. The recession has really messed things up especially with the big industries like cars and manufacturing slowing way down. It’s a total nightmare if you aren't fluent in German too as maximum of the decent roles basically won't even look at your CV unless you can speak the language properly.

Tips: There is no tuition fee. Students get high quality education with excellent research facilities, almost free of cost. The university is top notch. One needs to put in effort in studies. It is advised to study regularly. It is advised to learn German during studies to improve one's chances of finding a job in Germany after the studies.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transport is excellent. The city has a large number of buses running from 5 AM to 1 AM. Their live timings can be tracked using apps such as Naveo and DB Navigator. Public transportation is cheap. With 65 euros Deutschlandticket, one can travel on any bus within the city.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian restaurants are very few in number. They are also quite expensive. Generally students cook their food themselves. Occasionally, I used to eat outside in Indian restaurants. There are many other options available as well - Turkish, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese etc.

Do not take exams lightly. Building a rapport with the lecturers and staff is not really necessary but encouraged depending on the subject. Be on the lookout for skill-building part time jobs. Experience specific to jobs is highly valued and preferred. Transferable skills are rarely an advantage.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): There is a chance of a PR after 5-8 years of employment. For people interested in getting it earlier there might be opportunities but I am not sure about it. If not for the Indian law regarding dual citizenship, I could see myself moving to Germany.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are no placement opportunities from the universities. Students obtain every job by applying themselves, attending job fair, and visiting a company website. The university contribution to jobs is the education they provide. I gave it a 3-star rating only to highlight that it is 100% based on the student securing a job for themselves. The student must apply for a job-seeker visa after completing the studies. It is 100% granted, but the student has to provide intent and proof of funds for atleast 3-6 months post study completion.

A challenging and rewarding experience at RWTH in Germany.
Tips: RWTH is academically demanding and requires good time management and self-discipline. Students should also arrange accommodation early. The transition was smooth but I experienced a cultural shift in punctuality, direct communication, and academic independence. It helped me become more organized and self-reliant. I did not receive a scholarship and managed expenses through part-time work. I am satisfied with the university's academic quality, my course structure and the experience of living in Germany.
Likes (Safety): Crime levels in Aachen are generally low and students can feel secure, especially when staying connected with friends and being aware of their surroundings. Additionally, the city police and local authorities are friendly and supportive towards students. Any complaints or concerns are usually addressed promptly, which adds to the overall sense of safety.
Dislikes (Part time work): RWTH is a large university with high student intake, which makes on-campus and off-campus jobs quite competitive and sometimes limited. However the 20-hour-per-week work limit during the semester allows students to balance work and academics effectively. Additionally, the current minimum wage of 13.9 per hour, with some employers paying more, ensures that the students can still earn a reasonable income.

A great university with lots of exposure to gain from.
Tips: Before coming to this university or Germany in general, you should have a broad and open mind. Try to respect the boundaries of others and maintain civic sense in public spaces. People here are direct, so don't get offended if someone has said something directly to you. And you should also try to be direct here with others.
Likes (Safety): I feel that the residents of a city are a reflection of a city's safety and security. 95% of the people here have empathy towards others. And therefore, one pathetic environment or surrounding ensures that safety is maintained throughout the time.

Absolutely amazing campus for networking, learning and development.
Tips: Be prepared to network more and enhance your communication skills. Always look out for extracurricular and work student opportunities. Be prepared for campus life and the German way of living. Be prepared for the German job market, mainly in professional skills and the German language.
Likes (Safety): Aachen itself is a nice place to live especially for providing a safe environment. The college is spread across the entire city, even then I have never faced any unsafe situation. Student dorms are also very nice with good student groups. The Intac Academy also has a support group which can be reached easily.
Dislikes (Value for money): The tuition fee is not justified compared to the colleges that are providing similar courses with zero tuition fees, as in Germany, as per my experience, the college name doesn't matter to get jobs. And in the same college, people are studying Bachelors for free.

Great student life and academics at RWTH Aachen.
Tips: Students should be prepared for a self-driven study culture. The academic environment is more research oriented and less spoon fed. German skills are helpful in daily life and part time jobs. The transition was smooth but there was a cultural shift towards more independence and punctuality. I received a 100% 'Women in Engineering' scholarship and relied on personal funding and part-time jobs to manage other expenses.
Likes (Part time work): RWTH Aachen offers good opportunities that are flexible and student friendly. On-campus jobs such as HiWi, research, or teaching assistant roles. Off campus, students can find jobs in restaurants, delivery services and chocolate factories, though some require some basic German. Part time work is manageable if limited to 8-12 hrs per week alongside academics. The average payouts range from 12 to 15 euros per hour.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The taste of Indian food at restaurants in Aachen is not very good. I have had much better Indian food outside of Aachen. As s student, it does not make sense to spend around 20 euros on food that is not close to authentic Indian taste. There are many affordable options such as Doner, Oizza and other similar cuisines. These are tasty, easily available and reasonably priced for students. I preferred cooking myself. I usually ate outside once a week during the busy period.

RWTH Aachen - an underappreciated gem bordering Germany, Netherlands and Belgium
Tips: Learning some German will go a long way, it is a very international environment so you can definitely get by just with English but to make more friends and assimilate yourself, it is really appreciated to learn the language, the local also appreciate it. It is also cheaper to learn German in India than in Germany xD
It is also very important to get good insurance. Your student status requires you to have valid health insurance, but it is highly recommended to also get a private liability insurance for a few Euros per month, which protects you from any accidents that you can be involved in that damage someone else's property. I applied for and got a scholarship specific to my course. The deadline was a few months before the regular admission deadline and it provided me about 500 Euros per month stipend for 2 years and an internship (working student/HiWi) contract for the first year for 8 hours/week that also paid about 500 euros per month. You can find student jobs at a lab provided you have a little background knowledge in the subject, usually English is sufficient for this. If you want to work at a tech company or a Fraunhofer, knowing German can help. I am very satisfied with my university. The faculty has been superb and there is excellent research in Physics here. It is also very affordable, charges zero tuition and studentship comes with a national travel card that allows you to avail all the public transport in the country, bus, tram, train, for free. The cost is included in the semester fee of about 300 euros.
Likes (Internships): Every few months, the student body and the university organise a career/job fair to arrange internships for the students and provide valuable guidance and upskilling for soft skills. There are numerous calls for international exchange visits/internships under the Erasmus and other programmes that the RWTH is a part of, which all students, regardless of whether they are only European, can participate in.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Even for a small college town, they have almost 10-15 Indian restaurants in the main city region, with reasonable prices 10-15 Euros for a meal, some focus on North/South Indian cuisine. I prefer cooking for myself to manage budget and health, it is quite convenient and possible to find food that suits your dietary requirements (veg, vegan, hall, etc.).

Production engineering at RWTH.
Tips: They do have English courses available through the RWTH International Academy. But those courses have tuition fees involved, for which they also have various scholarship programs that one can apply for. Also a lot of people have doubt whether the RWTH international academy courses are similar to the RWTH courses in German. I would say we both share the same faculty members, classrooms and networking events and it makes no difference. The only benefit you have is that the course is in English. The degree would have the same value as the one from RWTH.
Likes (Student Life): There are lot of events happening throughout the semester to meet with people and interact with people from different countries. Also the variety of events happening here means everyone can find their own crowd. There are music events, club parties, food events and sports events to name a few.
Dislikes (Part time work): Aachen is not as big a city as Cologne or Bonn or Düsseldorf. So finding part time work here is a bit tough, but there are adequate options for someone who is looking for part time. You do have the option of getting a student assistant role at the university but it's pretty limited. MS part time work here would beat grocery stores and restaurants.
