A well balanced university experience.
Tips: Well, obviously moving from your home country is tough, but other than that no additional challenges. Obviously there was a cultural shift, but if you're up for the challenge, it will be a walk in the park. Although you will miss home a little more every passing day, but you have to realize that nobody got up to the highest echelons in an easy manner. Other than that, honesty enjoy life, work hard, and enjoy the hardest.
Likes (Student Life): Well, a lot of things to do, all sorts of sports facilities, varsity teams, all types of different cuisines. Many places to visit in and around Guelph. The majority of the events organized are at the start of the year due to favourable temperatures, all sorts of concerts and gatherings, parties etc. Although sports tournaments run all around the year, with almost every sport you can think of. I'm in the badminton club and cricket club, also in the varsity teams for both of them, so it takes a lot of time off of my day but it's all part of the process.
Dislikes (Value for money): I am not getting paid for my hard work, instead it's the other way around. I believe all the skills I bring to the table are not properly utilised in the courses, but it makes sense because a university programme is tailored to fit the needs of a bunch of students.

It is a great place for academics and career building.
Tips: There was a cultural shift, and I had to learn a lot of new things in terms of studying and work ethic. The University of Guelph offers a lot of scholarships and financial aid, and it also offers on-campus work to help students financially. It even offers opportunities for career advancement and helps students pursue their dreams. Public transportation is quite good, affordable and convenient. Buses run throughout the week, including weekends and late nights. As a student, you either get a free bus pass or have to pay a small fee to get the card, which costs less than the regular fare.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking myself because you can get a lot of food items from the food bank for free, which helps me save money as a student. I occasionally ate outside, but I stick to affordable and budget-friendly options. You can get tiffin services for 10-20 dollars, depending on where you're located.

Selkirk College is a good going college with some quality education.
Tips: You need to mentally prepare yourself to live in a small town with no fancy buildings or anything like party culture. It's just a small place in all a retirement community. Selkirk College is not a great college but good enough for a middle class person to have a dream of studying quality education in Canada and hoping to achieve something big in their life within the next 3 to 4 years of their stay on a work permit in Canada.
Likes (Public transportation): The transportation in Castlegar is very flexible and you have multiple buses running all day to make a smooth daily commute. Here you won't find local people using the bus service much, as everyone owns a car and usually prefers to travel by car. It's easy for students to avail the bus service and mostly they won't be too filled with people, which makes it more flexible for travel.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): With the changing rules and situation in the country and the government imposing study visa restrictions, it's hard to find jobs for Indian nationals. You need to have as many certifications as you can relevant to the job you are trying to find in order to get your resume considered for an interview.

Fun loving and an easy going college.
Tips: You will like the college as there isn't much you need to know except the transport issue. Part time jobs are available in Castlegar, Trail and Nelson. Secondly, there isn't entertainment here, apart from a theatre in Castlegar. But in Nelson fun and entertainment is there.
Likes (Value for money): It's affordable and the faculty is very good with good classrooms and all. Class hours will be 2 hours, and in between, you will get 5-10 mins of break as well. In the whole day, you will have 1-2 or 2-3 classes, that's it. There is a sports area where you can spend your time.
Dislikes (Public transportation): There is very limited bus facility from Mon-Fri. It starts at 6.30 AM and the final bus leaves at 6.30 PM. However, duration between buses is minimum 1-2 hours, so if you miss a bus then you need to wait for an hour.
Secondly, there is only one taxi in the whole Castlegar, and you need to call them and inform to come to your place. You need to have a bicycle or a car for transportation.
