My Experience as a University of Bath Student
Tips: The biggest thing you need to realize before coming to Bath is that you absolutely cannot be shy about knocking on your professors' doors during office hours. The workload here creeps up on you fast, and if you don't stay on top of your weekly readings and lectures, assignments and exams will completely bury you by the end of the semester.
That being said, the vibe up on the Claverton Down campus is honestly amazing. People are genuinely friendly, and the university actually steps up to support you when you're struggling, so you never feel isolated. Another massive perk is Bath's placement team. They don't just hand you a job on a silver platter, but if you put in the work, they are incredible at helping you polish your CV, practice mock interviews, and connect with top employers, which is exactly how I managed to lock down my post-study job before even graduating.

Great Overall Experience, but Scholarship Competition is Tough
Tips: If you're looking at Bath as an international student you need to know upfront that landing a scholarship is an absolute uphill battle. The competition is fierce, so I highly recommend getting some professional eyes on your application essays to polish your writing before you submit anything.
That being said, my actual time at the university, the course itself, and the whole UK culture vibe completely exceeded my expectations. Bath is a gorgeous city to live in, and once I finally figured out how to juggle my budget and manage my daily expenses, I actually found my feet and felt so settled that I immediately started planning ways to extend my stay for the long haul.
Likes (Public transportation): I gave public transport a high rating because the bus setup up to the Claverton Down campus is honestly incredibly reliable. You don't have to worry about figuring out confusing public routes because First Bus runs dedicated Unibus lines—like the U1 and U2—specifically for the university. They pick you up right from the main Arrivals Square on campus and drop you straight into the city centre or Oldfield Park. The frequency during term time is amazing, and they even run the U1N night bus so you're never stranded after a late night out. On top of that, if you use the First Bus app or show your student ID, you get a solid discount on tickets, and the whole contactless 'Tap On, Tap Off' thing makes commuting back and forth completely mindless and way cheaper.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I rated post-study jobs low because the UK government completely trashed the visa sponsorship rules by hiking up the salary thresholds. It’s made things a nightmare for international graduates. The most frustrating part is that companies in the UK are actually genuinely impressed by the skills you get from a Bath degree, and they're completely willing to pay freshers a great starting salary.
But the second your visa status comes up in the final interview rounds, the doors just slam shut. HR departments look at the massive financial hurdles and legal paperwork required to sponsor a foreigner now, and they just panic and pull the plug. You can be the most qualified person in the room but the current immigration rules mean you’re fighting a losing battle against a system that forces companies to hire locals instead.

Tips: Be clear on your intention behind this shift. Be honest with yourself. A lot of students walk into the city without a defined purpose of why they're there. This helps you to stay grounded. And mingle with people from other nationalities too. I have observed that Indians like to hang out with Indians. If that's your calling, why move countries? Stay clear on your purpose.
Likes (Safety): Bath is an extremely safe city. Never had a single safety issue, and don't know anyone who has. Most places are walkable in the city at any hour of the day. The campus is very safe too; people are amicable. Food options are available late night too. Seagulls can be a little annoying.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It can be extremely challenging to find long-term settlement in the UK. The current policies (PG work visa) are also hinting towards decreasing immigrant settlement. Getting into the university (no matter how prestigious) does not guarantee your ambitions of settling down in the UK. A lot of it depends on what you bring to the employers and how you stand out from not only the locals but also the other immigrants who're fighting for the same spot. One opening will receive more than 5,000 applications. Equipping yourself and your profile with the UK nuances can be a game changer.

Very little guidance on internships.
Tips: Before joining this college, students should know that the academic environment is great but it is important to stay proactive. Enjoy your academic year but start applying for part time jobs or graduate programs as soon as you arrive. Transitioning here was smooth academically but there was a small cultural shift coming from India. It took some time to adjust to the independent learning style and the social norms but it was manageable. I received one scholarship which was given to every student, a 5,000 tuition fee waiver. There are also higher-value scholarships, like 10,000, and one advantage in batch is that you can earn scholarships to increase your fee waiver unlike other universities. I'm satisfied with my university, course and living in the UK. The support and opportunities available here make it a positive experience, especially if you stay proactive about work and funding options.
Likes (Safety): Both the campus and the city are extremely safe. Campus security is active, and the surroundings are generally secure, day or night. Beyond that, facilities like well-lit paths, CCTV, and clear bus schedules make travelling around easy and safe. Personally, I've always felt comfortable moving around the city, as long as you're mindful of transport timings.
Dislikes (Internships): I rated internships 1 because our course didn't offer any internship opportunities. Guidance for finding or applying for internships was tiniest. For those who did manage to secure internships, it was extremely rare, less than 1% of students received offers, mostly local British students. Internships that were available weren't always aligned with our field of study, which made gaining relevant practical experience quite challenging.

Tips: The campus is beautiful with really pretty spots and plenty to do. You should expect late nights and early mornings as the sem ends can get really intense. Tips: First thing you need to watch out for is the weather and how cold it will be. Best to buy winter wear in the UK because it's a lot more winter friendly. Scholarships are decent at University of Bath and they open portals around March. I received a 6000 scholarship.
Likes (Student Life): The college campus is amazing with access to almost any sport you can think of. It's a beautiful city with very nice people. Also, Batch is extremely scenic, much like the university campus. As for events, there are various societies that will make you feel like home during the festive season.
Dislikes (Part time work): There were very few part time opportunities on campus or through the university. You had to look in the city by yourself for opportunities. But once you do get into life in Batch, opportunities are good in the city because it's just before Christmas time and that's when maximum hiring takes place.

Very beautiful campus and safe.
Tips: I love the city and I feel a little cultural shift as it has a time difference, so there is some lag for 1st week. I got a merit scholarship of 5000. I got this as a feels discount. The course I chose is M.Sc. sports management, and the country is very beautiful.
Likes (Indian Food): There are not a lot of restaurants from my region but it is very costly, not affordable if you are a student and not doing any work or even if you are working it is not affordable. I prefer to cook for myself because it is less expensive and I love cooking.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): There are less chances of getting permanent settlement in the UK because it is difficult to find sponsor jobs. If I even get a chance to permanently immigrate to this country, I will not because it is difficult to sustain in this country. But I would love to stay as long as I can.

Tips: I have seen a lot of people have a sudden transformation here, including myself. The campus is really beautiful, and you will feel at ease here. Classes are overwhelming and the stress is real, so you would do yourself a favour by staying ahead of your coursework and seeking help in the form of office hours and peer groups whenever you're stuck on something. You'll also have to walk a lot on campus. Also, the placements and career fair are essential as they bring in some really good companies.

Tips: I didn't take too long to get comfortable here as the vibe of this university has always been what I imagine college life to be like. It has friendly people and is safe as we've had late nights without anything too concerning. The libraries are well equipped and joining a study group has really helped me with my lessons.

Tips: There wasn't a cultural shift that I experienced as such on a personal level. I loved staying in the city as the campus was located in a very peaceful and safe place, as compared to the metropolitan city I came from. You can walk alone at 2 am in the night without any fear for your life. Although I did apply for the scholarship, I did not get any but I encourage everyone to apply for scholarships regardless of their chances of getting them. I was very satisfied with the university and my course. The professors are brilliant and helpful and the assignments were great for improving on weak areas. I cannot say much about the country as I didn't get the chance to travel as much as I would have liked.
Likes (Public transportation): The campus is incredibly well connected to the rest of the city through buses that run every 15 to 30 minutes. Buses are the main mode of public transportation within the city, but trains connect the city to the rest of the country, too. The bus charges are minimal, starting at 1.5 and going up to 2 for rides within the city.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The NHS does the main hiring for post-study jobs after earning a psychology degree, but most NHS service providers do not sponsor visas. It's mainly private companies that sponsor visas, but finding a job at one might take a few months since most of them aren't eager to hire people with student visas. When you do get a job offer, it usually comes with a starting salary package of roughly 22,000 per year, which is generally a good salary.

Finding a job is a difficult task.
Tips: It would not be an easy task to leave the country and settle abroad. You have to manage a lot of things from food to accommodation. Be prepared for that and apart from that the market is very difficult here so be ready to find a job as it is a real struggle here.
Likes (Safety): City is quite safe as compared to rest of the UK when it comes to Bath it is quite a small city. Everything is accessible at a reasonable distance. You don't have to struggle for anything. The university has its own application called safezone which helps.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): UK market is going down day by day. Hence finding a job here is quite challenging. In university, they don't help that much in Masters course you have to be mentally strong to find a job here. Salary packages are also quite low as compared to the average salary of 30000 pounds which according to expenses is nothing.

Overall I think I made a perfect choice for my higher studies at University of Bath and would recommend it as the best university for higher studies especially in the school of management.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty at University of Bath in both School of Management and school of Engineering are well-trained and student-friendly staff. They support students in all aspects like if you are struggling with your assignments or even your personal problems they will guide you.
Dislikes (Part time work): You will have a lot of off campus part time options rather than on campus. Campus has limited part-time options and those slots are filled very fast, so payout would be decided by the type of job we prefer usually in the batch we may get jobs like in restaurants or in supermarkets which will have a payout of around 10-11 per hour.

Internship options are not there but one of the safest city to study.
Tips: Students should properly research their course, and choose the extra modules only after research and not on a whim. Students are better off if they choose to live in the city centre rather than any place else as all the events, fun, and restaurants are in the city centre itself.
Likes (Safety): The city of Batch is often viewed as one of the most secure cities for both visitors and locals in the UK. The crime rate is negligible and the neighbourhood is often engaged in promotions of safety guidelines and other. The city also places a lot of emphasis on their infrastructure and the access to the city's bus service or footpaths around the city is the evidence to it.
Dislikes (Internships): This rating is due to the fact that my batch didn't have the option of taking up internships, we only had dissertation or practice track which is sort of an internship but unpaid and the job is not secured after completing it. The upcoming batch from 2023 onwards will have the option to take up internships which is ultimately unfair for the batch graduating in 2023.

A Dynamic Academic Journey at Ruhr-University Bochum.
Tips: Moving to Bochum for uni is honestly just as much of a shock to your system outside the classroom as it is inside. People around here don't do fake politeness—they expect you to be exactly on time, tell it straight to your face, and just leave you to handle your own business. German university life expects you to be completely independent. While RUB has decent support offices, nobody is going to spoon-feed you. You have to handle your own bureaucratic paperwork, organize your own class schedules, and keep track of your deadlines with zero reminders.
Also, do yourself a massive favor and learn some basic German before arriving. Even if your master's program is entirely in English, navigating daily life outside the classroom will be an absolute nightmare without it. The communication style here is incredibly blunt—it's not necessarily mean, it's just very honest, which takes some getting used to. And you definitely have to get used to 'Sunday silence,' where literally every grocery store and shop completely shuts down and the city goes dead for the day.
When it comes to funding, I didn't actually get a scholarship myself. But if you need financial help, plenty of internationals apply for DAAD grants or RUB’s internal scholarship programs. Just know they look heavily at top-tier grades and whether you actually do volunteer work or social stuff on the side. Honestly, looking back, I'm really glad I made the move. The courses are tough but super practical, the concrete campus always has something happening, and living out here in Germany forces you to grow up and see the world in a completely different way.
Likes (Quality of faculty): I gave the faculty a full 5 stars because the professors here are brilliant and actually give a damn about whether you succeed or not. Unlike massive, faceless universities where you never see your lecturers, the professors in my department are super down-to-earth and easy to talk to. They keep their office doors open, and you can literally just walk in to debate course material, ask confusing questions, or get real-world career advice without feeling like you're wasting their time.
What really stands out about studying at RUB is how heavily they push applied learning. They don't just force you to memorize textbooks; the curriculum is packed with practical modules where you get your hands dirty on actual, real-world projects. As an international student, this is a massive lifesaver because it takes those dense, abstract theories and actually shows you how they work in the industry, which is exactly what you need to land a job later. Plus, the faculty is incredibly diverse. You’re learning from people from all over the world with completely different professional backgrounds, which completely changes the dynamic in the lecture halls and makes classroom discussions ten times more interesting.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I gave the Indian food situation a low rating because finding a genuine taste of home inside Bochum is honestly a massive headache. While the city has plenty of international spots, the complete lack of authentic Indian restaurants or proper South Asian grocery stores is a huge letdown. Honestly, having to drag myself all the way to Dortmund on the train just to get basic spices and lentils from an Asian market is an absolute pain, especially when I just want a proper meal after classes. It turns a simple grocery run into a whole afternoon trip, which seriously limits what I can cook on a busy weekday.
Right around campus and the Uni-Center, your daily options are basically just German bakeries, Turkish döner shops, and standard Italian pizza places. Tips: - Germans are very nice people, and they are open to help students. But it's good if we learn German to speak with them. - I got an international scholarship for 6 months during my second semester from the university. I applied online. I submitted a few documents like a recommendation letter from a professor, a bank statement, transcripts, a motivation letter, and others. - I am completely satisfied with the course and university. The course is well recommended for students who did mechanical or civil in their bachelor's. The subjects are very well designed with tools and projects for industrial applications.
Likes (Value for money): For my course, there is no tuition fee. Students have to pay 360 eur per semester, which is the contribution fee; it includes the semester ticket (Deutschland ticket for travel), the social contribution fee, and all. I work at a university and other off-campus jobs to support myself financially (for room rent, food, and all).
Dislikes (Part time work): You can find a ton of job opportunities both on and off campus. Working as a student or research assistant for a professor is a massive plus—it gives you actual, hands-on experience in your field and puts extra cash in your pocket to help cover expenses. Students are allowed to work for 20 hours/week, and it is definitely manageable along with studies. Usually the minimum pay in Germany is around 14 EUR/hour. It slightly varies with the role and the place of work.

Very satisfied with the course, university, and country.
Likes (Value for money): There is no tuition fee, since it is a public university in Germany. The course is one of its kind, because there are hardly any programs that focus on providing a holistic curriculum focusing on material modeling in all length scales. Opportunities for research are plentiful, and getting Ph.D. positions after a master's here is relatively easier. The coursework is also flexible and gives you the opportunity to choose what you want to specialize in.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking, but the university also has a vegan mensa (canteen) with subsidized food for students, which sometimes has Asian/Indian-style food. Otherwise, there are a handful of Indian restaurants in Bochum that serve decent food. There are also vegan burrito shops accessible by tram.

Best Course but with limited Job Oppurtunites
Tips: There is great work-life balance in Germany. This is the biggest cultural shift. I got a scholarship from my state called NTR Videshi Vidya. I got it by submitting my admission letter, GRE, and TOEFL scores. They gave me 10 lakhs. I am fully satisfied with the university, course, and country.
Likes (Value for money): There are literally no feelings for the education apart from the semester feelings. You need to only pay semester fees, which were around 330 euros at my time. So it's a great value for money. Especially since the courses are well taught. The only problem is the job market.
Dislikes (Internships): Few internships and heavy competition for CFD and FEM-related jobs. The field is saturated. Internships are not easy, and language matters a lot. Get a good grip on the German language before you come here. With language, internships are a little bit easier to get.

Tips: If you're moving out here to study at RUB you need to brace yourself for some serious culture shock, especially when it comes to the academic side of things. The German university system is a completely different beast—the teaching style is way more independent, and your interactions with professors and faculty are far more formal and direct than what you might be used to back home.
Financially, things got a lot easier for me because I managed to secure a scholarship through the RESOLV cluster, which was a massive lifesaver for handling my expenses. Honestly, I’m incredibly satisfied with my choice to come to Bochum. The city itself is a fantastic, highly underrated place to live as an international student—it’s got a great student vibe, the cost of living won't completely break the bank, and the campus community makes it easy to find your feet.

Tips: There is no major cultural shift I have experienced here since there are already so many Indians present. However, we should get adapted to the quiet lifestyle that goes in an orderly manner and also to the weather. Applying for scholarships is very much recommended. Looking out for scholarship deadlines within the university portals and the famous DAAD portals is really helpful. Overall the experience is wholesome.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty in the department of stem cell biology are very accessible and reliable. They help students to get internships or projects out of the university. They also help in providing lab rotation within the department. Most of the teaching faculty are Germans; however, we have numerous guest lecturers who come from university clinics and other reputed universities. There are some Indian faculty as well. Teaching is mostly offline with PowerPoint slides, and sometimes it's online. Practical experience is also really good.
Dislikes (Internships): There are student bodies and administrative staff continuously conducting meetings and seminars to bring awareness about the internships and job opportunities available. They help in preparing students for the job after studies. However, there are not the same number of opportunities for all disciplines.

Best place to study, when your ready to put extra efforts.
Tips: Students should learn the basics of whatever department they are going to join and dedication while studying. Start preparing German once you start your academics. Make sure you reach out to faculty when you have doubts, and if possible, do group study while preparing for exams. Try to use sports facilities available in the college.
Likes (Student Life): Very friendly people, easily accessible, and reasonable rent for accommodation. And also food is affordable. Events organized by students often give information about jobs and other facilities available in the university. You can use the sports facilities available on campus at a reasonable rate.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Because German language skills need to be at least a B2 level. The course is in English and students don't need german skills while joining but after completion you need to prove your German skills to get a internship, job, etc. Getting a job is on your own, so keep applying for every company that actually suits your profile; you will definitely get a job.

Academically strong, diverse and supportive place to study in Germany.
Tips: Students should know that transitioning from the Indian to the German education system takes about one semester as studies here are more self driven and research focused. I did not receive a scholarship but strong performers often get one from the second year onward. I am satisfied with the university's diverse open environment and with my course which is research oriented and requires students to find internships independently. Germany is peaceful, structured and ideal for those who don't mind could weather and clear bureaucratic processes.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The value for money at Ruhr University Bochum is exceptional. There is no tuition fee and the semester contribution of around 50 includes the Deutschlandticket giving free public transport across Germany. The university offers high-quality teaching, strong research infrastructure and excellent facilities. For the low cost paid each semester, the academic and practical benefits are completely justified.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Part-time work is quite difficult in the beginning. Without good German skills, it is hard to find jobs, so learning German early preferably from the Goethe Institute is important. During the first 6 months after arrival, most time goes into registration, paperwork, and setting down, so there is almost no scope for part-time work. On-campus HiWi jobs usually open only after first-semester results, and even then the competition is very high. Off-campus jobs are available mainly if you speak fluent German. As an alternative, many students work full-time at Amazon during the end-of-year speak season to manage expenses. Average payouts vary but generally range from minimum wage upwards depending on the job.

Tips: The university provides excellent research facilities and welcoming international environment. Having a senior from my previous master's college here helped me adjust smoothly. The transition was quite comfortable, though in Germany, there are cultural and language differences, but you will enjoy learning. I am a DAAD scholarship holder. It covers my living expenses, health insurance. I had to clear an interview to get this.
Likes (Student Life): I mostly spent my day till 6 pm in the chemical labs. But in between, I spend my day attending lectures. Lunch at mensa and discussion with friends. The campus hosts various events such as research talks, sports activities. I am currently enrolled in badminton and swimming. There are various cultural and sports groups. Particularly, we have a research cluster where 4 universities are doing collaborative research on solvation Science.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer to cook my own meals because it's healthier and much more affordable. But there are a lot of options available for vegetarian and non-vegetarian people to eat in mensa (a dining hall inside the university). Pricing ranges from 4-8 euros per meal. But there are some good Indian and Asian restaurants in and around Bochum.

This university is the right place for someone who really wants to learn.
Tips: This university is the right place for someone who really wants to learn. The professors are very friendly, and you can always approach them with doubts. Be ready to spend quality time studying and study every day; do not push it to the last day before exams. You should understand that only you are responsible for yourself and be proactive. I found my course very challenging, but in the end, it was totally worth the time, effort and money. I didn't avail any scholarships, but I know people who did. So it is possible to get scholarships. You need to make sure that you have good grades. One thing I would suggest to all students coming to Germany is to learn the language.
Likes (Indian Food): I would suggest all students cook for themselves as it is cheaper. I prefer cooking food myself. There are many Indian restaurants and you easily get Indian food. You also have many other restaurants here, Italian, Greek, Turkish etc. Eating outside is a bit expensive, but occasionally it's okay to eat out.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): If you want to apply for permanent immigration, you have to study well, get a job in your field, and work for 3 years before you can apply. I would also advise you to learn the language. It is very helpful and can make the transition to life in Germany more comfortable. I think that immigrating here is a good idea.
