Tips: Students need to be open-minded. Take part in local cultural events like visiting the bar, attending workshops, and games night. Learning German helps, but the international student community is very large. More likely to spend most of the time in the library or dorms; hence, take whatever opportunity you get to socialise.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Expert faculty for each department. Very easy to get in touch with them. TAs also available. If you're lucky, you can get a one-on-one session with the professors. Industrial connections and projects are also available with the faculty Research driven and with a focus on engineering also.
Dislikes (Indian Food): You will find Italian, Vietnamese and Turkish food restaurants nearby. Not many Indian restaurants; even the ones that are there don't provide a lot of variety. University of stuttgart, A place where students can feel like home.
Tips: At the beginning, the first few days are confusing because of the language and culture. You need to figure out the documentation (German bureaucracy), places you can find supplies, friends, etc. How to organise your social life and academic life. But give it some time (1-2 months), you will be a local in no time. And yes, learn German!
Likes (Student Life): It is the best place for students to live, we have a lot of campus bars/common places to enjoy. On top of that, this university has a large number of students as foreign students, so it is a great opportunity to connect with students from all around the world.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Not many restaurants, but a lot of grocery stores where you can buy and cook for yourself. And it is costly to eat outside as a student. So it makes more sense to cook at home. There are some restaurants, but the food is not that great, to be honest. All the ingredients are available in the grocery stores.

Tips: There are many ups and downs, regardless of how prepared you are, like visa extensions getting delayed, not finding accommodation in time, health issues, or several reasons that might motivate and affect the studies. So before coming to Germany in general, students should be prepared mentally and emotionally and have a straightforward reason set in mind for coming here. Lack of motivation will affect mental, emotional, and academic health.
Likes (Safety): Despite being a big city, Stuttgart is very safe relative to other big cities. Good public transportation across the city allows you to go and hang out anywhere you like within the city and come back safely by night. Public transportation runs on Sun-Thur from 5.00AM to 1.00AM. On Friday and Saturday it runs overnight as well.
Dislikes (Student Life): There are not many college clubs or active social life in college. If you know good German, you can inculcate a bit, but there aren't many events happening in the college. Students usually hang out in groups, and there is no graduation ceremony as well. So basically college is just where you develop academically and get your degree.

A Challenging and Rewarding Engineering Journey at the University of Stuttgart
Tips: If you're planning to join Stuttgart for Mechanical Engineering, the main thing to know is that German is non-negotiable. B1 or B2 German makes your day-to-day life and social integration 10x easier, even if you speak fluent English.
I didn't take any scholarships and self-fund my studies here. The program itself is demanding, but the practical exposure is incredible—hands-on workshops like StutCAD give you real engineering skills, and being located right in Germany’s automotive capital opens up huge career opportunities.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent immigration gets a 3/5 purely because of the administrative nightmare at the Stuttgart Ausländerbehörde. The path itself for engineering grads is clear on paper, but the local immigration office is notoriously understaffed and painfully slow. You can wait over a year for a settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) while your application sits in total radio silence for months.
Bureaucracy aside, my actual chances of settling long-term as a mechanical engineer are great—especially with local heavyweights like Mercedes-Benz and Porsche right here. I'd still stay in Germany permanently because the career growth in the Stuttgart region is top-tier, but dealing with city paperwork will test your patience.

No regrets about the course and the city.
Tips: Stuttgart is a fantastic place to be a student, but building a solid group of friends early on makes all the difference in keeping university life fun and manageable. On the funding side, definitely throw your hat in the ring for the Deutschlandstipendium. It’s extremely competitive since so many high-achieving students apply, but it’s 300€ a month if you land it, so it's worth the effort. Overall, I’ve been really happy with both my course curriculum and living in Stuttgart.

The best. You get everything you wish for here.
Tips: Even though the course is in English. I would recommend learning German for a better and easier life. Without German, it will be hard to get a part-time job, as it is their main language for communication. So be prepared rather than regretting. Other than that, it's all good here.
Likes (Value for money): It's under TU9, and its reputation really meets the quality of education. Rest it all depends how much efforts you put in. Don't overthink; come here, learn, grow, and live up to your dreams. It's one of the public university in one of the good cities in Germany, so opportunities are here but how to get them depends on how much hard work you put in.
Dislikes (Internships): It depends on students—how hard they work for it. It's very competitive here, so learn German to excel. The university offers a job fair twice a year, which can help you to get a part-time job during studies. And yes, there are many internships available for all kinds of fields.

A look into Uni Stuttgart
Tips: If you're making the move to the University of Stuttgart you definitely need to brace yourself for some serious initial culture shock—changing countries is never completely seamless. But the great thing about this campus is that it’s packed with other international students, so you are almost guaranteed to run into fellow Indians who can help you find your footing and figure out the local system during those first few weeks.
You should also keep an eye out for financial aid and specialized campus initiatives; there is always a realistic shot at landing a scholarship or getting involved in targeted university programs like FEMTECH, which are fantastic for building a solid network and getting your name out there. Outside of the university itself, Stuttgart is a fantastic, highly international city with a ton of stuff to do. Looking back, I’m genuinely happy with my decision to come here and incredibly grateful for how the whole experience turned out.
Likes (Internships): When it comes to actually applying for or landing an internship, the university leaves you completely out to dry—there is basically zero guidance or support from their side. The only reason you can actually survive is because Stuttgart is a massive industrial powerhouse. Being surrounded by so many massive manufacturing and tech giants means the opportunities for technical part-time work and proper internships are way higher here than if you were stuck in some quiet, tiny college town.
Even though the competition for these roles is an absolute bloodbath, the sheer volume of companies in the area means you can definitely find a job, get your foot in the door, and build up some solid local experience.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is very diverse and are knowledgeable. But according to my experience, it felt like the university took in more students than the ideal number of students they could manage. It is very competitive to find a research project or a HiWi or even a good topic for the thesis.

3/5: Better/Latest Curriculum and Job Support Needed for International Students
Tips: Honestly, you just have to study hard and get your German sorted early on. If you're coming to the University of Stuttgart, you've really got to put yourself out there to actually get the local culture and all those tiny everyday nuances. Especially with the way things are set up here—there’s zero chance you’ll find one single, magic platform where all the student opportunities are just handed to you. You genuinely have to be proactive and chase stuff down on your own.
Likes (Public transportation): As the public transportation in Germany is covered under the Deutschland Ticket, you can move across Germany under a 60-euro ticket. Public transportation is generally reliable, with not too many problems faced, except for RE while traveling from one city to another. However, occasional delays have prevented me from giving it 5.
Dislikes (Value for money): Yes, being a university under BW, this is one of the most expensive universities in Germany after TUM. So I would recommend that anyone think about ROI before applying to this university. Also, as one has to put lots of effort into their own to understand the curriculum, get a part-time job, and also explore other critical areas for self-development and learning, I would rate this university 2 on value of money, as my experience with this university was quite bad. But kindly take it with a pinch of salt as each individual has a different opinion.

Personal and academic growth.
Tips: The cultural Shifts in Germany are mostly emotional and physical. The weather, food and language are some things that took time for me. I have not applied for any scholarships but the University offers different types of Scholarships that students can apply for. Getting the scholarship does not totally depend on academics but also on extracurricular activities and volunteer work. To be honest, I got much interest in education after joining my University and the course. I learnt a lot from writing the paper to learning Soft Skills from fellow students and professors. Through the systems in my University, it has really developed a thirst inside me to be more educated and be in a better position.
Dislikes (Internships): Stuttgart has diverse Industries. Home to Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Bosch, etc and because of these big players many industries have evolved and developed in the State, creating more opportunities and making the most of the research for Germany. There are many Industry and University Collaborations happening and they have strong university research, creating many internship opportunities despite high competition.

Theory and research-oriented study program.
Tips: In Germany, there is a division when it comes to higher education - 'University' and 'University of applied sciences'. University focuses more on research and university of applied sciences focus on applied knowledge. Since Stuttgart is a University, it is more theoretical. It is completely in our responsibility to gain experience through clubs, Formula Student or similar things. So it might be stressful, but it is manageable.
Likes (Safety): Germany is generally safe compared to other European countries. Immediate help on and off campus from mentors and tutors. It is easy to get help even from the police or the general public in case of emergencies. There are lots of international affairs people in the university or general coordinators who make sure students feel safe on campus.
Dislikes (Part time work): On campus part time jobs are extremely scarce to find. Also the competition is higher. The pay is relatively very low compared to off campus part time jobs. Since International students who already pay large tuition fee, they won't be choosing on campus jobs unless they are really desperate for a part time job.

Research oriented prestigious university.
Tips: This is a university oriented towards research. Good mathematical skills are expected. There will be some cultural differences in lectures but that will be on the positive side. I did not apply for any scholarships. However, you can look for DAAD scholarships. I liked the course, teaching material and especially the professors.
Likes (Safety): The city is very well connected through public transport via the university campus. I have lived there for 3 years and never heard a concern about safety. You could see police patrolling every in the campus at night sometimes. There are many helpline numbers for emergencies. However it is always advised not to travel alone in secluded areas which is a general advice valid for every place. There is not much of a nightlife in the city, so there is not much you could do during the dark hours.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The job market is pretty bad at the moment. Moreover, even with good German language skills the opportunities are too less. Work sponsorship is not needed. You just need to find a job with a minimum salary range then you can get the EU blue card which is a work permit. Generally, after graduation, you can get into a PhD programme, of course you will have a stipend which is approximately 55,000. So it is pretty decent. Apart from this you can work in the industry with an average salary of 60,000 however, it is difficult to find one at the moment. Internships are easy to get but a full-time job is hard.

Tips: Students should be prepared for a rigorous, mathematically intensive programme. COMMAS is research driven, so self study and good fundamental knowledge in mathematics and programming are important though not necessary. Administrative processes in Germany can be slow, so patience and planning are essential.
Likes (Safety): Student residences have controlled entry systems. I have always felt safe moving around Stuttgart even when it's midnight. The police presence is consistent even when it's too late. The city is generally calm, well organised. I have never had any negative experience so far.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The teaching is highly theoretical and research oriented. The faculty is not very diverse in nationality. They are often very busy with research and projects. Some professors use advanced simulation examples, which is a unique strength. Getting quick response from the professors can sometimes be difficult.

Tips: It's important to research about the course that one is taking. For the Electrical Engineering Master's, a few courses are difficult. It's important to choose a subject that interests you. It's always good to get an opinion about each subject from any senior students before writing the exam. Once you write an exam, it's not possible to register for that subject.
Likes (Part time work): There are good Indian restaurants in the city, but not many options when it comes to South Indian food. There are Sri-lankan restaurants, which do provide good south Indian food as well. Mostly, students cook for themselves as dining out is not an affordable option.

The university is good and friendly.
Tips: Sometimes there are cultural socks but it is a matter of time as time passes, it becomes adaptable. There are scholarships like Deutschlandstipendium which offer 300 euros per month as a scholarship. It's a research university, so if you want to do research, it is good for you.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is efficient as most people use bus and trains rather than their private vehicles. Students are not offered a city ticket but you need to buy a monthly ticket from the German train authority but it costs 40 euros per month only.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Generally, the market is not good right now otherwise, in a normal scenario placements are good. The job roles vary from design to development to project management. The package goes for a fresher from 50,000 euros per year to 65,000 euros and for an experienced a bit higher than this.

My honest take on studying in Stuttgart.
Tips: Well, students should know that Stuttgart is a big city and you might feel a bit lost in the beginning. If you are someone who likes European architecture and buildings, I will have to disappoint you because Stuttgart is not the most beautiful city when it comes to architecture. They do have a lot of industrial opportunities which also comes with a lot of competition from other international students. Unfortunately you also won't have the most international environment in your classes if you decide to pursue engineering here because mostly there are Indians so you might have to put yourself more out there for sports and extra curricular activities so that you can interact with more international people. We do have a lot of nature spots here. If you like nature and forest and hiking, you might like it here, especially on the Vaihingen campus at the University of Stuttgart.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty here is highly qualified and they have themselves studied from the world's best institutions. They are quite passionate at what they do. The research institutes also offer a wide range of thesis topics which can be pursued in order to fulfil your areas of expertise in the course of your Masters studies.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The chances of permanent settling in the city of Stuttgart are less because the Visa office has really long waiting days. If you need to switch your visa from student to job seeker or a full time employee, it is a very overwhelming process. You could work in Stuttgart but it is highly recommended to shift to nearby cities in order to have smooth paperwork regarding the bureaucracy.

Stuttgart city and TU Stuttgart experience.
Tips: The Stuttgart city is not like a typical European city, which someone would expect, but it has decent leisure options. You would probably meet more people from different parts of India itself. You need to put in effort to make friends with people outside your country. Few people also have the opportunity to get the Deutschlandstipendium which gives you a scholarship of 300 euros per month for a year. The university staff is responsive, and local people are helpful as well.
Likes (Public transportation): The S-Bahn stop is right at the center of the University, and not just that, even the bus stop is directly in front. Once you have the Deutschlandticket, the connectivity is great. You can get to the main station in around 15 minutes, and have a lot of other options to go to like parks, shopping centres.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are quite a few Indian restaurants around, which are decent, and you could go there once in a while. On average, the cost per person at a restaurant is at least 15 euros, and as a student, it is a bit on the higher side for a one time meal. Once you know how to cook, you would not prefer spending so much money for just one meal.

Tips: The academic transition was very drastic when I arrived in Germany. My Bachelor's at Savitribai Phule Pune University had a simple, straightforward curriculum and exam pattern, so it was initially difficult to adjust to the concept based lectures and exams at Stuttgart. I didn't apply for scholarships interested candidates can find information online. I am completely satisfied with my university and course. As a technical university, Stuttgart offers complete freedom in choosing courses and electives based on individual interests. There are also opportunities for internships and working student roles, providing valuable industrial exposure and helping students optimise their career paths. Settling in Germany can be challenging due to the demanding language, cultural differences and the current market situation.
Likes (Part time work): It is easy to find on-campus part time jobs at the University, which are mostly known as HiWi (Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft) or Student Assistant roles. In such roles one can find and contact different Ph.D. students and assist them on their respective projects under their guidance and supervision. It is usually manageable to have a part time job that amounts to 10 working hours per week along with the regular academic activities. The average pay is around 13 euros per hour.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There aren't many Indian restaurants in Stuttgart, and the ones that exist are either expensive or not very good. This is specifically about Indian cuisine; there are still great options for Italian, Thai, Korean, Mexican, or Turkish food in the city. I prefer cooking Indian food at home.

The economy is weak and it's very difficult to find work for less experienced professionals.
Tips: Adapt to German culture and weather, especially in winter. Learn the language to grow your social circle or miss out on networking. The German National Scholarship is available if you have good grades and maintain them for the standard period of study for two years. I am generally quite satisfied, as you have a lot of flexibility regarding courses, how many courses you want to take per semester, and part-time jobs.
Likes (Safety): Generally, Germany is a safe destination for students. The campus is situated in the outskirts of the main city and is surrounded by nice park, forest, and sports facilities. Stuttgart as a city offers a lot - it has a great city center, a lot of museums (Mercedes, Porsche), and the nightlife is also very happening and safe.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): All companies offer sponsor visas, however, right now the economy is weak and it's very difficult to find work for less experienced professionals or students. There are all kinds of job roles on offer, from data scientists to software developers, but you need to demonstrate a lot of skills and experience.

Tips: It's always good to talk to your seniors who have taken the subjects, because a few courses are extremely difficult. I also don't have a scholarship for my course. I'm not really satisfied with the university and the course, particularly, because the university doesn't really help the students in many matters, including studies. I am, however, well satisfied with the country.
Likes (Safety): The campus is generally safe all the time. I'd say it's a common thing in Europe. I never had any bad experiences. I'm sure the police know how to handle things, though. It's pretty safe to travel even at night, too. The transportation facility in the city also helps a lot.
Dislikes (Student Life): The course structure is complex, but you could find time for travelling and engaging with student activities. There are some summer parties, as well as annual parties. Student technical hubs, such as the green club, are pretty active, but student activities overall have limited exposure.

The university is student friendly and people are very friendly.
Tips: Know the German language well. It'll help with part-time jobs and jobs after your studies. There are options for scholarships, but with the blocked account money and part-time jobs, it'll be more than enough to survive. Also, the exams and study patterns here are very different. You need to constantly study and be up to date with classes. Studying a day before the exam will not be useful here.
Likes (Safety): Germany is one of the safest countries in Europe. In my time here, I've rarely faced any racism or other issues. People are friendly here, even cops are helpful. And if you know German, it's gonna be of great help. Public transportation is quite safe and have connection to almost every part of the city.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking by myself. There aren't many Indian restaurants here, and the ones available are expensive for the taste. There are a few Indian grocery stores here where you can get stuff. My suggestion is to learn cooking before you come here. It's better for health and financially wise in the long run.

One of the Top universities with a strong research core.
Tips: Language is the most shocking one; I will definitely need to learn German to be able to thrive here. English will only help you survive! There are multiple scholarships available which we can apply for with few requirements for qualifying for the same. I am really satisfied with the University and the course as it helps me build a strong foundation in the Core subjects and also be able to connect with a strong alumni network, enabling me to explore work opportunities and build a career.
Likes (Public transportation): Really good; we get to use the semester ticket for students, which enables free travel in trains/bus and trams across Germany except for the premium ones! Makes life easier. DB is, however, another story, which isn't so reliable with timing but does get the job done.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): 8/10, there are strong chances that I will settle in Germany, as the work culture and supportive environment help a lot in making life easier. Yes, I would definitely like to work here for a while before I explore options elsewhere. The work culture is really good.

My Review about TU Darmstadt
Tips: People in Germany are quite friendly and welcoming. There are too many indians which does not let you feel a cultural difference. As it is a government university, the fees are nominal. You pay only 350 euros per semester, which also includes the public transportation ticket. I was completely satisfied with my university and the course. The only thing you need to worry about is the language issue. You will probably not survive if you do not know basic German.
Likes (Quality of faculty): This is one of the most recognized universities in Germany. It is a government University. We have all kinds of diverse faculty, and they are easily approachable through email or personal visits. I like the teaching methodology as it includes more practical lessons instead of only theory.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer to eat outside, and there are not many options for Indian restaurants in town. Even when you wish to cook at home, there are not enough green vegetables available. Vegetables are costlier than non-veg. Fresh vegetables are not available, only imported are available.

Life is a rollercoaster ride: Ups and Downs

For students coming from India, one thing I want to say is that studies can be a lot of energy draining here. You need to put in daily hard work; it isn't like India, where teachers spoon-feed us. We need to do a lot of self-study here and need to read books as well, but if you manage to do that, then it is a really great university and has a lot to offer. No, I didn't apply for any kind of scholarship, and I'm not aware of one either. I am extremely satisfied with my university and the course as well. And about Germany, it's always thrilling, like every day is a new challenge, but it is fun to tackle those; it makes you more mature, and I guess it's exciting to have some challenges in life, or else life feels boring.
Likes (Value for money): Umm, since my university is a public university, there is no tuition fee for me. But yes, there is a semester contribution that all the students are supposed to pay, but it's around 400 euros; I guess it is totally worth the money because the facilities they provide are simply awesome, and it's like they give you access to 3 world-class libraries across the city. They have 2 Mensa (university canteens) where they have different menus on each day and provide the students of TU Darmstadt special discounted food. The faculty over here is superb, and they are relatively easy to approach regarding any kind of doubts, and they have a lot of part-time job opportunities as well.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Umm, there are a few good Indian restaurants around in my locality, and prices are also okay, but it's about the authenticity of the taste, like Germans prefer less spice, so they are not up to the spice level even though you specifically ask for it. Hence, I prefer cooking by myself and eating at home rather than going out for meals, and it's like a personal decision, not like there aren't any good restaurants available. There are a lot of good restaurants out there. I guess döner is one of the most popular dishes among the youngsters out here in Darmstadt, Germany.

Tips: Students should know that they will have a great time if they are willing to put in the effort. Be open minded and be open to learning new things. The sooner you merge to the German education system the easier it will be. Otherwise it's smooth sailing.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): There are a lot of opportunities to learn, meet people, engage and enjoy in various parts of the German and international community. There are various student clubs/ projects. Moreover, the university is also quite supportive if you are interested in working on a student project.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): Professors are super helpful and easy to reach out to. They sometimes go out of their way to help students. There's a lot of support especially for international students. All lectures are super engaging and insightful. The way the courses are designed is creative.

Academics, especially courses with lab work and academic projects, demand time.
Tips: Cultural shocks and imposter syndrome are part of the process but the more you force yourself into the new and comfortable setting, the more it'll start getting easier. A few cultural socks include the fact that the bureaucracy is crazy and everything, from doctors' appointments to other official appointments, requires meticulous planning beforehand. Being on time is considered late, and I'm still working on that. All shops and supermarkets remain closed on Sunday, so you've got to plan your week around it. It can get really quiet and really gloomy if you don't have people to reach out to, so have a tribe. Deutschland Stipendium is one of the best scholarships available, but it is also super competitive.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): The decision about a permanent settlement can change over the years and many factors can affect it. It's only been close to six months in this country and it demands top tier awareness and hard work for an immigrant to peacefully stay here. The first step towards permanent settlement is knowing the language at least up to B2. No integration is possible without this. The job market is pretty bad but I believe it can be smartly navigated with some patience.
Dislikes (Part time work): Academics especially a course with lab work and academic projects, demand time, so it totally depends on how efficiently one manages their schedule and how much one decides to spend on their part-time, self-study, and also leisure. HiWi jobs are quite competitive but not impossible to get from the second semester onwards. Off-campus opportunities increase considerably if you have an A2/B1 level of the German language. Just keep in mind the maximum number of hours you can work and earn as a student. Not obeying it will have legal consequences. Doing mini-jobs is also a good alternative.

Their expertise and commitment significantly improve the learning experience. They also use creative ways to teach and exams that make learning easier and fun. Teaching is research oriented. I gained a lot of hands on experience that is actually required.

Likes (Student Life): Usually there are at least 1-2 seminars or lectures in a day on campus and after attending those, one can also go to the library with other students. The city provides an abundance of opportunities to spend quality time with friends in the city and rooms to study in the library, as well as many intercultural events to network with other students.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are restaurants from several different countries, including Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Oriental restaurants. As a student the prices at restaurants do not make it possible to eat out regularly, however the University Campus has its own canteen where students can eat food at a discounted price. I usually prefer to cook by myself.

Likes (Public transportation): The Stadtmitte campus, along with the Lichtwiese campus, is very well connected by trams and buses. Especially as a student, it is compulsory to take a public transport ticket for each semester, making it all the more reason to use it whenever possible.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There were not many Indian restaurants, especially ones with good quality. The ones available were rumoured to have really unhealthy kitchens. And also, I prefer to cook for myself. Indian groceries were always available, though, making it easier for me.

Tips: As an international student, the transition to TU Darmstadt was a mix of excitement and adjustment. The biggest shift was adapting to Germany’s independent study culture and its more structured, punctual lifestyle. Although the cultural change felt challenging at first the international community made it smoother. TU Darmstadt also offers university stipends, and the overall cost of studying is low the Aerospace Engineering course costs only around 300-350 per semester, which even includes public transportation. For living expenses, there are both technical and non-technical student jobs that help cover monthly costs. Academically, the university and the country are above average, with strong academic standards, solid support, and a well-structured aerospace program that is practical, research-oriented, and rich in opportunities in areas like aerodynamics and flight systems.
