Fantastic college that outshines most of the popular private universities.
Tips: There is a cultural difference. People coming from India will need time to adjust to Austin and the US. UT offers a scholarship along with your admission letter. You can still mail and apply, but the success rate is very low. I earned a scholarship of 5000 with my admission letter. The best way to get a scholarship is to apply in the first round. I am very satisfied with the university, still adjusting to the country. I would say the course is good, but it's very important to know that it is more analytical than described on the website.
Likes (Public transportation): UT students can use all the public transportation in Austin for free. The bus services are great and are mostly on time. The bus services cover all the major areas of Austin that students would like to visit. Even if you have a guest coming over, the bus pass is also very affordable.
Dislikes (Part time work): This is a 10-month course, and due to this, there is no option for TA/RA/Internship. There are many part-time opportunities, but due to a very tight schedule, student of this course cannot do most of them. The ones we can do are for PTS (Parking and Transportation Services) and Dining. The average pay is $14.

Tips: Initially, studying here can seem intimidating, but the people are warm and helpful. It took me a semester to adjust to my classes and establish a routine. Tips: Texas is a very unique city offering all aspects of the American life in one place. The cost of living is reasonable compared to other states, but securing on-campus housing is a task. You can skip the orientation; it's not that useful anyway, but make sure your housing is sorted and that you have a functioning account. The international students mixer is where I found my friends.

Tips: Before coming here, I was very study-oriented. Now I know everything is important in life. Studying and enjoying should go hand in hand for best productivity. Join clubs and meet new people and explore new ideas. I had the fully funded Reach Oxford Scholarship. The allowance was around 14k GBP per year for living costs. And academic feelings were covered as well. So, I was saving money each year from this. I am very satisfied with all the opportunities and fun I had at this university.
Likes (Post study jobs): Most of my friends and seniors got jobs before completing the degree. Others went on for higher studies to good universities and full funding as well. The networking quality and quantity are excellent, which makes getting jobs a bit easier compared to other universities.
Dislikes (Part time work): In the whole 4 years I found only 2-3 people who did part-time work, especially tutoring. I have never looked much into this either, so I can't guarantee. But I think there are lots of options in Oxford for part-time jobs, both including and excluding tutoring.

An Indian student's perspective on studying Physics at Oxford on a full scholarship
Tips: I was lucky enough to get my funding sorted through the Rhodes Scholarship, which is an absolute lifesaver out here. It covers every single cent of the Oxford tuition fees and throws in a monthly stipend of just over £1,500. Honestly, that's more than enough to live comfortably in Oxford without constantly stressing about money.
As for the uni itself, the place is an academic pressure cooker. The pace of the course is relentless, but they don't just leave you out to dry—there are plenty of libraries, welfare teams,and departmental resources to help you keep your head above water when the workload piles up. Plus, living and studying alongside a massive, global mix of people completely forces you out of your shell, which does wonders for your communication skills. Looking back at the past year, I’m incredibly happy with how everything turned out. It’s been an intense, unforgettable experience that completely changed how I think, work, and handle life overall.
Likes (Public transportation): Oxford is very well connected with public transport, especially through the network of buses that run across the city. However, most students use a bicycle to commute as this is the most economical option. Nonetheless, Oxford is pretty walkable and also well-connected to the rest of the UK through rail.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): You need to keep a serious eye on the timeline if you're doing the M.Sc. in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics at Oxford. Because the course is a super-intense, nine-month sprint, your student visa is usually only capped at 10 or 11 months total. That gives you basically zero breathing room once Trinity term wraps up.
If your goal is to stay in the UK long-term and settle down permanently, you have to hustle to secure a proper full-time job and sort out a sponsored work visa. Absolutely none of this happens automatically when you graduate. You don't just get handed a passport with your Oxford degree, so you need to be networking and applying for roles from day one if you want to transition to a Graduate Route visa or a Skilled Worker visa before your student visa cuts you off.

Academically rigorous and fun loving at Oxford.
Tips: It is competitive to get to Oxford, and it makes a lot of sense if you come here with a scholarship. The university is lovely and the environment is encouraging and challenging with rigorous academics. Students usually spend hours in libraries during exam times. However, it is equally fun too.
Likes (Part time work): There are multiple part time jobs for students. Although I don't engage in one myself, half of my friends do, including restaurants, etc. They manage it well and are paid the minimum UK wage, which is around 12 pounds per hour. Hence I think it is not that bad.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The UK requires a minimum stay of around 10 years to get PR, however, it can vary if you get the Global Talent visa. I think I will be going for the latter option after finishing my Ph.D. which offers PR in 5 years. Maybe I will look for PR, given that the opportunities are good.

Oxford is an academic disneyland.
Tips: Please have a complete knowledge of the course that you are studying because it is really competitive and intense. The courses here at Oxford are designed to help students incorporate critical analysis skills, so they are very indulging and mentally demanding.
Likes (Indian Food): There is a street in Cowley Oxford which has all the food options from all the countries. It is locally known as diaspora street! There are restaurants catering to gastronomic needs from across the globe. There are also convenience stores that provide food sourced directly from India at a competitive rate.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The public transportation is not at all reliable. Buses are cancelled frequently. There is no other public mode of transport for students. The black taxis are out of reach, with average fares being GBP 45 for a couple of miles. The minimum bus fares are GBP 2.8 for 1 tap.

Tips: Please get scholarships, have funding on your side so that you can take the full experience of studying in college without having to worry about part time jobs. Also, having a very strong academic background, this will help you achieve cutting edge growth rather than catching up growth.
Likes (Student Life): It's the best campus life I have had in the UK. Oxford has over 30 colleges, each with its own college life, dining hall, chaplaincy, common room and events. Even 1 year is not enough to explore all of them. Apart from that, there are so many academic and non academic talks, seminars, and research colloquium organised by every department.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): For getting a permanent residency, one needs to stay in the country for 10 years on a work sponsorship which is very difficult. I wouldn't opt for permanent residency. I want to stay here for some time and then go back to developing my country,

Funding, academics and life at Oxford.
Tips: In order to be eligible for scholarships/funding please apply before the December deadline else you will not be eligible. Oxford has different colleges do your research, see the fellow that are in your college and the accommodation before putting in a preference while submitting your application. Always attend the tutorials; it is a great way to brainstorm and build critical thinking. The faculty and department are very helpful; you can always reach out to them and build connections! There are a lot of formal balls; do not feel pressured to attend everything. Prioritise your needs, especially when you first transition. Buses are expensive, 35 is a day pass and 25 is a week pass. I'd suggest getting a bike or living close to your department.
Likes (Value for money): To be able to meet and learn from a faculty that include noble laureates, constant exposure to highly translational research and accessibility to all the resources is incredible. There are tons of networking opportunities available! The labs have quite advanced instruments too for which the price is justified. The investment you make in this course, with the help of the network you build has a great ROI.
Dislikes (Part time work): On-campus part time jobs are available but highly competitive. Moreover, the Master's course is quite intense to be able to manage part-time work. The career service at Oxford does provide a good platform to look for part time roles and internships.

It’s been a great journey. You’re always busy doing something.
Tips: Very intellectually stimulating. Nothing is spoon fed; you need to maintain an active network to know about opportunities. The weather is not that big of an issue. It is generally cold and rainy but the inside is properly insulated. No scholarships. Quite a lot of case competitions and esteemed faculty, keeping the MBA programme above quality.
Likes (Student Life): Oxford is a college town. It's very common to bump into someone you know when you're just walking on the street or buying groceries. Outside of the business school, there are tremendous opportunities to get involved in. It keeps a good balance between your career and interests.
Dislikes (Part time work): Not permitted and not enough time. You only have one year to study, secure an internship, get a job placement, network with the cohort and build good LinkedIn connections while at the same time attending employers' engagement. There isn't enough time to partake in part time opportunities.

Amazing MBA experience with less focus on academics.
Tips: The student life in Oxford is crazy. Being in a collegiate system and getting to interact with people pursuing other degrees including phds is something only Oxford offers. The university town experience is also something very different. It was truly the best year of my life socially. Try to get scholarship, there are too many sources and ways to get one. Try to be proactive and reach out to more people and start working towards your post MBA goal even before MBA starts. And lastly try to also network with people from other B-schools.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The college doesn't prepare you for post MBA jobs. The resources and tools are less. There is very less specific advice. I expected more from a business school. I feel Indian MBAs are more prepared to look for jobs. So a lot of people in the ten batch are still struggling to get jobs, also because of the UK economy.

Tips: This MBA course is good for student experience in terms of providing with a good international network and talks/ sessions, but has a good understanding of where you really wanna go after Masters. Career switch is very limited and not that much possible from non-UK countries especially India. Do proper research on which electives will help boost your career as well.
Likes (Student Life): I have walked late nights across Oxford and haven't encountered any theft or harassment cases. So it is a very safe student city. You would hang out with your Oxford friends and would not feel alone, and experience the cultures of different countries as well. There are a lot of events in Tech, Consulting and Product.
Dislikes (Value for money): The value for money is not justified as you pay so much for tuition fees, you get a good experience but if you want to settle in Europe/ UK after MBA, the opportunities are limited. Visa sponsored jobs are minimal and the pay is not very high. Better to get a scholarship, otherwise choose some other B-School.

Tips: Oxford has plenty to offer, make sure you dabble into anything you might find interesting. Do your research on scholarships. I got a full ride covering my tuition and living expenses because I planned ahead. It was the best year of my life more because of the culture on campus.
Likes (Student Life): Amazing extracurriculars, great parties, plenty of interest based groups be it academic, sports or social the collegiate system offers an interdisciplinary exposure to all students. The culture of formal dinners, festivals, ball and talks keeps the city vibrant though it's a small town.
Dislikes (Part time work): Oxford is a small town. There are only a few opportunities for students. Many students find work during the summer, winter and spring break and this is mostly full time and often with the university itself. There are opportunities to work on campus but not too many folks work during class hours.

Excellent place to study.
Tips: A very academically oriented university, with a high focus on academic excellence. It is also a very student friendly and liberal campus. There are many merit based scholarships also available, the majority are partial fee waivers but some are comprehensive and also pay a stipend.
Likes (Public transportation): Oxford is very walkable and public transport friendly. There are also cheap and nice buses both inside Oxford and those connecting Oxford with London. There is good train connectivity with other cities like Reading and London as well. Good public transport.
Dislikes (Internships): I did not do an internship, but there are many internship opportunities available with London based firms and chambers for an Oxford lawyer/law student. However, considering the course is only 9 months, it may not make sense to do an internship in this time. Better to do a short internship immediately after the exams are over.

One of the best years of my life.
Tips: If you are unable to secure funding or a scholarship, it is important to note the benefits against the costs. Given the state of the economy and the widespread lack of jobs, paying such high costs for a degree may not be beneficial. I was on the Commonwealth masters scholarship, so I did not have to spend anything out of pocket, but before I got the scholarship, I did consider not taking admission because it did not make sense to pay so much for a one-year degree. The university will give you the time of your life and one of the one-of-a-kind experiences if you decide to go.
Likes (Internships): More than anything else, it's the name of the university and the value that it carries. Given the scale of the university, you will need to find opportunities and connect with people, but you will find the staff and faculty very helpful and always available.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Given the new rules for immigration and post-study settlement in the United Kingdom, it has become hard for students to stay in the country post-completion of their degrees. I would have liked to stay in the country, but I had scholarship conditions that required me to return.

Oxford is a lot more than just academic excellence.
Tips: My time at Oxford has been challenging yet rewarding. I learnt how to manage the submission of deliverables on time even when the situations were not in my favour. Everyone here comes with expertise in their own fields and peer-to-peer learning helps a lot in gaining a different perspective. At the same time, engagement in extra-curriculars is not only encouraged but also appreciated by the faculty and department head which in turn helps in great exposure to a world outside the field of study.
Likes (Safety): Oxford is a student city and generally, it is very safe even at night. Plus, the departments and college staff ensure proper guidance to safety measures through lectures, presentations and emails at regular intervals. Even public transport is safe to use and people are quite welcoming, as I have always experienced during my time at Oxford.
Dislikes (Internships): Career services at the university provide general guidance related to finding/applying for internships and the department also sometimes helps. However, more focused research on finding something relevant to the field of study is expected to be done by students themselves. While self-exploration with proper guidance helps in the long run, it can sometimes be time-consuming and stressful in case of financial difficulties.

BCL at the University of Oxford - An intense and wholesome year full of new learning experiences.
Tips: Getting into the BCL at Oxford is a privilege since it's a highly reputed course that's very selective of its cohort. BCL, contrary to its name is neither a Bachelor's nor a Civil Law course. It is taught master's course for students from a common law background. The experience of studying at the university is unmatched, especially the tutorial system where a student gets a lot of one-on-one time with the professors. The shift from an Indian education system to this has been massive but positive and I would highly recommend doing this course. I was fortunate to have received two scholarships from the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India. The application process was simple and involved completing a form and an interview that took place in Delhi with a panel of about 5-6 members. Moving to the UK is a big cultural change for an Indian in terms of food, weather, culture and the education system. However, the University of Oxford is a very welcoming place and although it might take some time, you'll soon feel at home in the university. Overall. I am extremely satisfied with the course, college and the country.
Likes (Part time work): There are various academic and non-academic opportunities for part-time work available in the college as well as in the university. These could be examination invigilation, test correction, participation in different studies, research assistant to a professor, and volunteering, amongst others. These opportunities can also be availed in other colleges, if available. However, considering that BCL is an intense and short degree, managing part-time work along with academics becomes relatively difficult. Commitments of a shorter term should be preferred over long-term commitments. The average payout for part-time work at the university is usually the minimum wage rate in the UK.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The economy in the UK right now is not at its best which makes it relatively difficult for immigrants to look for a sponsored job. While the graduate visa route does facilitate the process and help the students start the process, it does add two more years to the permanent settlement process. A degree from the University of Oxford, especially the BCL, will certainly help your chances of getting a job in the legal market, it is relatively easier if you come after work experience considering you'll need to separately qualify as a lawyer either solicitor or barrister in the UK. The BCL certainly did help me obtain a job in the country but having a graduate visa did increase my chances of getting the job itself since I won't require sponsorship for the initial two years. My chances of permanent settlement in this country are quite high and I would be open to the idea of permanent immigrating to this country.

Tips: It is definitely difficult to adjust to a completely different academic environment and a new country in the beginning. So students should keep an open mind and engage themselves in different cultural activities to ensure the transition period is smooth. Homesickness is real but I would encourage students to reach out for help whenever they need it. All the counsellors and supervisors are always ready to listen to you. I have been very fortunate to have attended the University of Oxford, which was my dream university and the experience I have had was nothing less than amazing.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is great! I have learnt so much during my time at Oxford. What I enjoyed the most was problem based learning sessions wherein the entire cohort was divided into groups and given activities and questions to answer based on clinical cases. The quality of education is really commendable. The events that were organised by the university as well as the student unions are also ample. Students can join different clubs and societies and pursue their interests.
Dislikes (Internships): There are a lot of opportunities to apply for internships however since the MSc program is of a year it might be difficult to apply and continue an internship with so much to cover in academics. The program might make it difficult to take up internships during the course duration.

Over hyped. But worth it if you get scholarship.
Tips: Make sure you know why you want to come to Oxford, most people come here due to the reputation and brand value but get disappointed when courses do not meet their academic expectations. Some teaching materials are very Eurocentric and white. Overall, a good place to network and make connections.
Likes (Safety): Safety is not an issue as everyone stays around the city or university campus. Streets are well lit and students can easily avail of university security services. All accommodation has a special fob-based entry, which is very difficult to break into. Overall safety is not an issue.
Dislikes (Value for money): Tuition fees and living expenses are very expensive. My law degree had one of the highest tuition fees. I could only attend because of my scholarship. The university application fee itself is around 8000 rupees and the university does not give any waivers.

Engaging faculty with several on-campus events.
Tips: I was living here for some time so I didn't have many problems adjusting to the culture. I didn't get any scholarships but they are available for students. Highly suggest applying for these timely. Very happy with the course, highly engaging and awesome cohort. Great professors and events are organized all the time.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): There are good chances of settlement if you need to. The country provides a two-year post-study visa which you can use to find sponsored jobs. I would prefer to return to my country at some point but if someone wants to stay here permanently, you need maybe 6-7 years to get citizenship.
