There are no strict eligibility criteria for the IELTS. The only IELTS eligibility criteria prescribed by IDP require candidates to be at least 16 years of age to be eligible. There is no maximum age limit or minimum education requirement to take the test.

The test is accepted by over 140 countries and is open to all nationalities. To appear for the IELTS exam, one just needs to complete the registration by paying the IELTS fees of INR 18,000. The minimum IELTS score depends on the university or country where you are applying. Most universities ask for an overall IELTS score of 7.0. 

Q:   Can a 10th pass apply for IELTS exam?

Yes, candidates who have completed Class 10 can apply for the IELTS exam, provided they are 16 years or older and have a valid passport. There is no minimum academic qualification required to take the IELTS test.

The IELTS eligibility in India 2025 is very simple. Any candidates 16 years or older can give the IELTS exam. There is no maximum age limit.

Q:   What is the minimum age for taking the IELTS Exam?? Can I do IELTS after my 10th?

The minimum age for taking the IELTS exam is 16 years. Anyone over the age of 16 can take the IELTS Test irrespective of nationality or background. IDP - the conducting body of the IELTS exam has not officially declared a minimum age limit to take the IELTS exam, but it is preferred that the aspirant should have crossed 16 years of age. IELTS - an English language proficiency exam is a requirement for candidates looking to pursue higher education abroad. And since, IELTS scores are valid for a period of 2 years, candidates who take the IELTS exam in Class 10 would have to appear again after completing their Class 12 if they plan on studying abroad.

Yes, passport is the mandatory document requirement to register for the IELTS exam. The passport will also be verify by the staff at the IELTS exam centres on the day of the exam.
