Worth the Effort, Great Education and Opportunities in Munich
Tips: Getting used to life here may require some time, particularly on a social level. Germany, and Bavaria in particular, is a rather traditional country where people are private, reserved and distant. It is not very easy to make friends with locals (particularly in the winter months). However, I studied in Munich, which houses 3 universities. Therefore, there are many new international students each semester who can attend different student events, network, and get involved in cultural activities. Thus, there are opportunities to make friends, but of course, it requires effort. 1. There is a clear cultural change: people are reserved and private. But after having become fluent in the language and familiarising myself with the local culture, everything became much easier. People, both locals and other students, became more approachable and friendly, which helped a lot in both my personal and professional life. 2. Yes, I got the Deutschlandstipendium for the whole period of my studies, which gives u20ac300 per month. An additional advantage was that there were no extra expenses connected with the application for a visa extension. The funding is provided by the government. There is no fixed criterion, and it helps students who have hardships, are refugees, etc. I got it for academic and volunteering achievements over the years. 3. Very satisfied; the most difficult and time-consuming thing is learning the language, but when I became fluent in it, a lot of opportunities opened up for me. People became totally different; I became friends with locals, got job offers and immediately found my home. From my experience, proficiency in the language is the key to success, particularly in civil engineering. Though there are opportunities for English speakers, any student who wants to study and work here should consider the language issue. This helps a lot with Career prospects and Quality of life.
Likes (Value for money): The financial investment in my studies was very low: 0 tuition fees (only a semester contribution of 136 euros). There are also plenty of government-funded scholarships. I feel it is worth the money because of the high academic standards, career prospects after graduation and little financial burden.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): After completing my Master's, I was able to start working in the same field as my studies, which made me eligible for the EU Blue Card. The process was smooth and remarkably fast. Regarding the permanent immigration question, I have now learned the language, work full-time, and am integrated well into society, and, based on how things are progressing, I see myself realistically doing so in the coming years.

Tips: I was awarded the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship and got the information via the internet. I am very much satisfied with the university, but the course could be more in-depth. I have transitioned a lot with the system, day-to-day life, by observing the people and learning from them.
Likes (Student Life): In the morning we would attend the lectures and then mostly chill out or catch up with friends, doing project work or part-time job depending on the schedule. There are a lot of student clubs and communities where people can participate. The course also has a WhatsApp group that organizes a few events.
Dislikes (Internships): You need to find your own internship via applying directly on the company portal. There are a few positions also posted on the university page or via email. Yes, you can get the internship in the field of study. Sometimes it's easy to get the internship if you know German.

Tips: TUM is a highly demanding academically and the students who want to join needs to keep that in mind. With the new fees it is also competitive and expects students to be proactive. There are many research projects, collaborations, job fairs and events but you must actively seek them out. You also need to improve your networking as you will surely meet international students and they will be your support systems until your collage life. The TUM degree will surely offer excellent resources and career prospects but depends largely your initiative and willingness to learn the language as well as stepping outside your comfort zone
Likes (Public transportation): Public transport is one of the best way to travel to and from the university. As the university is in the middle of the city, there are lot of option for travelling. It is also inexpensive as there is a Germany wide ticket that can be brought at student prices.
Dislikes (Internships): In Germany, universities generally do not provide structured guidance or support for internships, as there are not a mandatory requirement. However, students who are interested in pursuing one must find opportunities independently. For these positions, there are numerous job fairs and similar events that help students connect with potential employers.

Tips: Before joining the Technical University of Munich (M.S. in Sustainable Resource Management), Students should be prepared for rigorous, research-oriented program with a strong interdisciplinary focus and high academic independence. Transitioning to TUM involved adapting to a structured German academic culture and a more self-driven learning approach, which was a noticeable but enriching culture shift. I was able to avail a merit-based scholarship (Deutschland Stipendium) during my studies that provided partial financial support toward living expenses. I am very satisfied with the quality of education, the sustainability-focused curriculam, and the academic environement in Germany, despite the relatively high cost of living.
Likes (Public transportation): I rated 5 for Student Life because my experience at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in the M.S. Sustainable Resource Management program is both academically enriching and socially vibrant. A typical day involves lectures on sustainability, environmental economics and resource policy, group projects, and independent research, often combined with study sessions in the library or collaboration spaces. What I enjoy most is the strong balance between theory and real-world application, along with TUM's international and interdisciplinary environment. The campus regularly hosts sustainability workshops, industry talks, hackathons, cultural festivals, and networking events, and I participate quite often, especially in academic and sustainability focused events. There are active student clubs and communities related to sustainability, environmental initiatives, entrepreneurship, sports, and international students, which makes campus life engaging and inclusive.
Dislikes (Part time work): The professors in the Sustainable Resource Management M.S. Program at TUM are highly knowledgeable, research driven and deeply involved in real world sustainability challenges. The faculty is very accessible and approachable; they encourage questions, are responsive during office hours, and actively support students in research and career guidance. The Teaching methodology is unique due to its strong interdisciplinary approach, combining environmental science, economics, policy and practical case studies, often linked to ongoing research projects. Good quality education with lot of job opportunities.
Tips: Indian and German cultures are quite different. But if you are open to meeting new people and learn about different cultures, it becomes easy. Learning German beforehand would also be helpful. I didn't avail any scholarships. Very satisfied in terms of education and living experience. And Germany offers a lot of opportunities for jobs as well which helps students find working student jobs or internships.
Likes (Safety): The city is international and very safe. The people are welcoming as well. Almost everyone speaks English. Very rare cases of racism. The campus is also very safe and in case something happens, the police are also very active or you can reach out to the student committee.
Dislikes (Indian Food): It is difficult to find Indian food options in day to day life in general. There are a lot of Indian restaurants in Munich but they are expensive. It can cost 20-30 for a single person meal. I preferred cooking myself as it is cheap and affordable.

Punctuality is highly valued. Securing jobs and internships can be difficult.
Tips: Winters can be challenging consider supplements, socialise and get outside. Summers are wonderful; make the most of them. Be dedicated and proactive as you won't be spoon-fed. Learn the local language it's incredibly helpful. Learn to cook. Don't be afraid to connect with people; friends are invaluable. Maintain good hygiene and be tidy; there are no excuses for messiness. Punctuality is highly valued. While securing jobs and internships can be difficult, it's not impossible. Respect the new culture and integrate well – avoid littering, excessive talking, rudeness, and discrimination. The studies are not difficult, but you need to determine what to focus on. Participate in as many projects as possible and genuinely care about your work, and pursue hobbies.
Likes (Public transportation): The public transportation network is huge, well-connected, and regular. Trains run late sometimes, but buses are very frequent, except on Sundays and you can reach most places. Touristy routes tend to be very crowded, especially on weekends. Get a bike and use it; it's the best commuting option.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian Food in general is not the most delicious, especially the affordable options. You need to go for expensive options. Indian grocery stores are also quite expensive, but worth it for some items. Other cuisines are cheaper but not always tasty. Try to cook at home and eat out 2-3 times a month.
