Indian student group in UK launches ‘Fair Visa, Fair Chance’ campaign
NISAU UK has launched “Fair Visa, Fair Chance” campaign in support of the post-study Graduate Route visa.
The National Indian Students and Alumni Union has written on the X platform, "NISAU has relaunched our "Fair Visa Fair Chance" campaign to defend the Graduate route, once again."
UK Home Secretary James Cleverly has commissioned the independent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to assess the Graduate Route visa and ensure it is "fit for purpose," with the MAC anticipated to report by the end of next month.
Lord Karan Bilimoria, Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on International Students and patron of NISAU UK said, “The ability to work for two years post-graduation helps international students to earn money to help pay for their degrees and enable some to get valuable work experience as well as to continue to build strong links with the UK," as reported by Firstpost.com.
He added that the fear of removal of the two-year post-graduation work visa is sending out unnecessary and damaging negative messages around the world, and universities are already seeing a huge decline in international students’ applications.
Post-study work visa in the UK is critical in addressing skills gaps
One of the messages on X reads, "The #PSW is critically important for addressing skills gaps. International students invest significantly to pursue their career aspirations. Therefore, to retain the world's top talent & promote cultural exchange & diversity, the PSW is indispensable and should remain in effect."

The international student community is facing a critical challenge with a potential threat to the graduate visa route. This visa allows international students to remain in the UK for two years after graduating and can provide valuable opportunities for international students to gain work experience and contribute to the workforce post-graduation. However, recent developments have put this essential pathway at risk, said NISAU UK's official statement.
“It is very sad that a mere few years on from the re-introduction of post-study working in the UK, we are having to once again make the case to defend it. The Graduate visa is a key requirement of Indian students and a critical offer of the UK’s international higher education system,” said Sanam Arora, NISAU UK chair and Commissioner of the UK’s International Higher Education Commission, as reported by The Print.
