Ireland Student Visa: If cut-offs in Indian colleges look huge, you could try your abilities at colleges abroad. Amidst choices like the US, UK, and Canada, Ireland may actually give you a better choice at a lesser cost. Moreover, visa rules for international students in Ireland are easier for degree courses as well as non-degree programs.

all about Ireland Student Visas

It’s time for the September intake in Ireland. Since most Indians opt for overseas education at the tertiary level, here are some of the Ireland student visa rules for degree students:

  • Students can stay in Ireland only for a maximum of seven years to complete their degree courses
  • Major degrees awarded in Ireland are at Level 7 and above of the National Framework of Qualifications. Here is a list for your convenience:

Level

Degree Awarded

Duration

NFQ Level 7

Ordinary Bachelor Degree

Three Years

NFQ Level 8

Honours Bachelor Degree

Three to Four Years

NFQ Level 9

Postgraduate Diploma

One Year

Masters Degree

One to Two Years

NFQ Level 10

Doctoral Degree

About Four Years

  • Degree program students are not allowed to enrol in a non-degree or language course, during or after completion of their programs. They may enrol in a foundation language course though if it has been already stated in their visa application clearly.
  • International students are advised to pursue only those programs that are included in the Internationalization that allows non-EU students to take up casual employment.

Things to remember

  • An individual student can only avail of the Irish Third Level Graduate Scheme once.
  • The scheme is non-renewable.
  • The scheme allows for a seven-year limit for a student.

Hence, if a student does a three-year bachelor's degree program in Ireland and then opts for a one-year stay-back option under the Third Level Graduate Scheme, he or she will only have four years to complete further studies there. Besides, the student cannot apply for the scheme again
