It’s time for the September intake in Ireland. Since most Indians opt for overseas education at the tertiary level, here are some of the Ireland student visa rules for degree students:

  • Students can stay in Ireland only for a maximum of seven years to complete their degree courses
  • Major degrees awarded in Ireland are at Level 7 and above of the National Framework of Qualifications. Here is a list for your convenience:

  • Degree program students are not allowed to enrol in a non-degree or language course, during or after completion of their programs. They may enrol in a foundation language course though if it has been already stated in their visa application clearly.
  • International students are advised to pursue only those programs that are included in the Internationalization that allows non-EU students to take up casual employment.

Study in Ireland Without IELTS

Under the Irish Third Level Graduate Scheme, students who have successfully completed qualifications within NQF Levels 8 to 10 from the following institutions are eligible to stay back for one year to seek employment, and apply for a green card and work permit:

  • Dublin Institute of Technology
  • Higher Education Training and Awards Council
  • Institutes of Technology with delegated authority
  • Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
  • Universities
  • Other institutions that have a legal power to award degrees

The Irish Third Level Graduate Scheme also allows students who have completed NQF Level 7 qualifications to stay back for six months.

Things to remember

  • An individual student can only avail of the Irish Third Level Graduate Scheme once. 
  • The scheme is non-renewable. 
  • The scheme allows for a seven-year limit for a student. 

Hence, if a student does a three-year bachelor's degree program in Ireland and then opts for a one-year stay-back option under the Third Level Graduate Scheme, he or she will only have four years to complete further studies there. Besides, the student cannot apply for the scheme again
