How to Prepare for MCAT 2026?

The MCAT is not a test of memory. It is a test of critical thinking. Most successful candidates spend between 300 and 350 hours preparing over 3 to 6 months. Since Indian students often excel in the science sections (Chemistry /Physics) but struggle with the Verbal (CARS) section, a targeted strategy is essential.

Phase & Timeline Actionable Steps Recommended Tools
Phase 1: Foundation
(Months 1-2)
  • Take a Diagnostic Test: Establish your baseline score immediately (e.g., 490) to find weak spots.
  • Content Review: Focus on understanding concepts, not memorizing. Use active recall.
  • Target: Cover 100% of the syllabus for Chem/Phys and Bio/Biochem.
  • Kaplan or Princeton Review Books
  • Khan Academy (Free Videos)
Phase 2: Practice
(Months 3-4)
  • Shift to Question Banks: Stop reading books; start solving problems. Review every wrong answer.
  • The "CARS" Routine: Solve 3 complex reading passages daily. This is critical for Indian students to improve speed.
  • UWorld QBank (Industry Standard)
  • The Economist (For reading speed)
Phase 3: Simulation
(Final Month)
  • Full-Length Mocks: Take one full exam every Saturday at 8:00 AM to mimic the real test cycle.
  • AAMC Material Only: Switch exclusively to official questions to understand the test-maker's logic.
AAMC Official Prep Bundle (Essential)

Pro Tip for Indian Students: Since you will likely travel to Singapore or Thailand for the exam, try to take at least one mock test in a new environment (like a library) to get used to focusing in unfamiliar settings.
