University of Melbourne History
Established in 1853, the University of Melbourne has been serving and making distinctive contributions to society and attracting the brightest students from all over the world. The main campus of the University of Melbourne is located in Parkville and the other campuses are located across Victoria. The university was established after a proposal by Hugh Childers who had set some money for its establishment.

Later, a law school at the university was founded at the Parkville Campus in 1857 followed by the Faculty of Engineering and School of Medicine in 1961 and 1962. By the 1900s, there were more than 500 students on campus for the first time in the university's history. Then in 1988, the Melbourne Teacher's College was brought to the Faculty of Education.
