University Of Manchester Gets UK Metascience Unit Funding

Study in UK: UK Research & Innovation’s new Metascience Unit has funded the University of Manchester for the advancement of the research.
The University of Manchester has become one of the first recipients of funding from UK Research & Innovation’s new Metascience Unit. The unit was introduced 'to find better ways to conduct, distribute and fund research'.
Principal investigator Andrew Stewart, Professor of Cognitive Science in the Department of Computer Science, said, “This grant is an exciting investment in The University of Manchester; recognising the importance of metascience. It will help us to demonstrate the benefits that digital notebooks can make to open, reproducible, and responsible research and provide other higher education institutions with a framework for implementation.”
Co-Investigator, Andrew Porter, Research Integrity and Training Adviser at the Manchester Institute, added, “Teams here are already starting to make use of digital notebooks to document their work. We're keen to see these powerful tools made accessible to researchers across the University to help support and grow open, reproducible and responsible research practices.”
PhD Researcher In Geography Recognised In Women In Fintech Powerlist
Innovate Finance has released the annual Women in Fintech Powerlist. This list recognizes the women's contribution in the FinTech sector. Chloe Fox-Robertson, a PhD Researcher in Geography at the University of Manchester is also listed.
"I’m delighted to be featured in the Women in FinTech Powerlist 2024, standing alongside such incredible and accomplished women. I hope that through this recognition I can amplify my impact, helping my findings reach a broader audience and promote meaningful dialogue for a more inclusive sector. I also hope my inclusion can inspire more young women from diverse academic backgrounds to pursue FinTech careers and show that meaningful contributions can be made, even in early-stage careers," said Chloe Fox-Robertson.
Manchester Professor named Archaeologist of the Year
Professor Joyce Tyldesley OBE has won the 2025 Archaeologist of the Year award. The award was based on the voting of the Current Archaeology magazine readers.
Dr Nicky Nielsen, Senior Lecturer in Egyptology at The University of Manchester, said, “This is a very well-deserved honour. Professor Tyldesley has shaped the study of Egyptian archaeology here at Manchester for decades, as well as her extensive work in outreach and scholarly communication, and it’s wonderful to see her get recognition from the wider field.”

I regard this as an award to be shared with my amazing team at The University of Manchester, all of whom are all dedicated to making the past accessible to all.
