University Of Strathclyde Offers MSc In Advanced Mathematical Modelling

Study Abroad: The University of Strathclyde has announced the launch of the MSc in Advanced Mathematical Modelling. The programme is for students with a background in mathematics.

MSc in Advanced Mathematical Modelling is an innovative and cutting-edge program to equip graduates with skills in solving real-world problems, which are complex in nature,e using advanced mathematical techniques. The course can be of great benefit for students aspiring for careers in applied mathematics and its various applications across research sectors and various industries.

The newly launched program intends to offer a strong foundation in various areas, including optimization, continuum mechanics, mathematical biology and numerical methods. The students will learn the practical skills to develop and analyse models for numerous practical challenges such as fluid dynamics, climate modelling, engineering design, medical applications and more.

While commenting on this, Dr Alexander Wray, Programme Director for MSc in Advanced Mathematical Modelling, said, “This MSc caters to the growing international demand for mathematically skilled graduates who can tackle real-world challenges with creativity and rigour. Whether it is modelling the spread of disease, understanding climate dynamics, or simulating complex fluid flows, our students gain the tools to solve the most impactful problems.”

University Of Strathclyde Organizes Webinar On MSc in Advanced Mathematical Modelling On May 15

The students can get an overview of the MSc in Advanced Mathematical Modelling program by attending a webinar on May 15, 2025, at 13:00 BST. During the webinar, the students will get an interactive session with the department staff and the admission team. They would be able to ask questions to them during the Q&A session.

The course has a comprehensive curriculum with an emphasis on applied mathematics and its main areas such as fluid dynamics, mathematical biology, numerical analysis and machine learning. The program will ensure that the graduates will have a versatile skill set with training in both computational and analytical techniques. The students will be able to undertake a hands-on research project in collaboration with industry partners and academic staff. It will develop their skills to work on real-world challenges across sectors such as finance, engineering and science.

MSc In Advanced Mathematical Modelling: More Details

The applications are open to foreign students. The fee for the international students is £25,500. The university is also offering 850 Glasgow International Masters Scholarships to support international talent. Each of these scholarships is worth £5,000. It is available to students who will commence their courses in September 2025.

“The MSc is open to students with a minimum second-class (2:2) honours degree or overseas equivalent in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline with a strong mathematical component. Relevant professional experience and qualifications are also considered. Applicants must have a minimum English language score of IELTS 6.0 (with no component below 5.5),” reads the university statement.

In semesters 1 and 2, the students will have the flexibility to choose from various modules including deep learning, optimization, and finite element methods.

In the third semester, they will undertake and complete an individual research project. In this project, they will apply all the mathematical modelling techniques they have learnt during the course and solve a research-focused and industry-relevant problem. It will offer them a great experience in problem-solving, independent research and professional development.

After completing the MSc in Advanced Mathematical Modelling, the students will be trained for careers in various industries such as finance and risk modelling, engineering and manufacturing, machine learning, data science, healthcare and biomedical research, and energy and environmental modelling.
