History
On May 31, 1850, nine individuals got together, to start a university that would serve the Northwest Territory. Additionally, they all had little money, no land, and minimal expertise in higher education. Moreover, the nine individuals had a creative mindset, religious inspiration, and a hard-working nature. This passion led to the establishment of Northwestern University in 1951. Along with this, in 1853, the founder decided to purchase a 379-acre land shore of Lake Michigan 12 miles north of Chicago. In 1855, Northwestern University began the classes with only 10 students and two faculty members.
