Russia Study Visa

Indians, if they wish to visit Russia, can do so by getting a relevant Russian visa. The visa free entrance into the Russian Federation is only granted to Indian citizens who either hold a diplomatic or official passport or are a member of the aircraft crew. Hence, in light of this, Indian students need to get a Russia Study Visa to study in Russia. 

The Russian study visa can be issued to Indian students who wish to study in a Russian university or a short course in Russia.

Russia Student Visa Validity

The Russian study visa initially remains valid for a period of 90 days and can be issued for either single or double entry. The validity period of the Russia study visa can be extended to a period of 1 year upon reaching the country. You can take multiple extensions based on your total number of study years in the country. The validity date of a Russia study visa corresponds to the dates mentioned in the invitation letter issued either by a telex from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Russian Federal Migration Service agency. 

Russia Study Visa Application Process

The process of submitting Russian study visa for Indian students requires you to fill out the visa application form online, get it printed out on a single piece of paper and submit it at the Russian visa application centre of your country. Follow the below-given steps to submit a study visa to study in Russian universities. 

  1. Visit the site http://visa.kdmid.ru/ to download your Russian visa application form. 
  2. Select a country from where you will be applying. The country you choose must has a Russian Consulate Office. 
  3. Choose a language in which you would like to receive instructions and other hints for filling out the Russian visa application form. 
  4. Up next, read the instructions provided for filling out the application form for the Russia visa. 
  5. Click on “Complete New Application” to start filling out your application. Remember, you must not take a pause longer than 20 minutes as it can result in you getting timed out. In such a case, if you don’t remember your unique application number or have not saved the progress of your application as a draft, you will not be able to go back and continue filling out your application. Eventually, you will have to start over with a new application. 
  6. In case you are taking a break from filling out the application, you must remember the application number shown at the top right corner of the screen. 
  7. After completely filling out your Russian student visa application, take a printout of the application and paste a recent coloured passport-sized photograph. 
  8. Submit your application with all required documents at the Consular Department of the Russian Federation in your country or the Russian visa application centre that you have chosen at the beginning of filling out your application. 

Russia Study Visa Requirements

The list of documents required to apply for a Russian student visa is given below.

  1. A current passport that must remain valid for a minimum of 6 months even after the expiration of the issued Russian visa. The passport must also have at least 2 blank pages (not necessarily consecutively blank pages). 
  2. A printed (in 1 page) and filled Russian visa application form with a glued recent (not more than 6 months old) passport-sized photograph. The specifications of the glued photograph should not exceed the dimensions 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm (b x l) and focus on non-smiling full-face.
  3. An invitation letter issued by either the telex from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Russian Federal Migration Service agency.
  4. Reports of the HIV (AIDS) Test taken within the last 3 months. The test report must remain valid for a period of 15-30 days from the date of your visa application. 
  5. A medical insurance of at least €30,000 coverage valid for living in Russia.

A. The usual processing time of a Russian visa for Indians for study purposes is 2-3 weeks. However, in some instances, this period can exceed up to 5 weeks.
