Established in 2009, Singapore University of Technology and Design is a private institution that is associated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The collaboration of the university with MIT covers Student Exchange Programmes, development of undergraduate curriculum, faculty visits for guest lectures and the establishment of the International Design Centre. The engineering and architectural programs of the university are accredited by the Board of Architects of Singapore and the Engineering Accreditation Board. Over the years, the university has won several awards, prizes, and championships.
The university campus avails housing facilities to its students. The campus comprises a sports center, recreation center, fitness center, cafeterias, the center for writing & rhetoric and a library with thousands of books, journals and research papers. The university allows the students to access electronic resources at the library. The campus aims to provide all the facilities required by the students. The university also avails accommodation facilities to the visitors who visit on an official basis. Off-campus accommodation is also available. In addition, the university provides staff housing within the premises. The hostels have well-maintained dining spaces. The campus is close to many restaurants and cafes. General stores, medical shops, and stationery shops are located nearby the campus. Public transport is easily available from the institution.
The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The curriculum majorly focuses on engineering and architectural courses. The engineering course includes subjects like programming, mathematics, design thinking, physics, and chemistry. The architecture course includes engineering product development, sustainable design, engineering system & design and information systems technology. This broad range of subjects gives students the opportunity to make a choice among the courses according to their interests. The students are taught under well-experienced faculty members. They also get a chance to go for the student exchange programs.
The students are taken for an industrial visit for practical knowledge and fieldwork. The guest lecturers also give students a broad knowledge about the course they have opted for. In addition, the university features some research centers and labs within the premises, namely the International Design Centre, Centre for Innovative Cities, the Industrial Infrastructure Innovative center, i-Trust Research Centre, Temasek Lab, O-Lab and the City Form Lab.
The university has a list of a few notable alumni that includes Chen Zhuling (Management consultant at Rolan Berger Strategy Consultants, Nikhil Jain (Product Design Engineer at Lab 126) and Teo Yi Linn (Inventory Management Executive at PSA).
