BSc in Business Management - Batch of 2025
4.5
An exceptional place to discover your potential.
Tips: The university has way more resources than what you can use in your time at the university. So my genuine suggestion would be to put yourself out there. Try as many new things as you can and be comfortable with the ambiguity. In terms of cultural shift, there won't be any major issues. In terms of satisfaction, I think I am pretty satisfied with the university; however, the UK in general is a rough subject. The country is going through a lot and is not in its best position, so setting back and finding jobs is a little harder than usual.
Likes (Indian Food): Birmingham has loads of Indian restaurants all across the city. There is even a small Indian cafe on campus. So personally, I have never faced an issue with Indian/veg food in Birmingham. I usually prefer to cook for myself because it's healthier and cheaper on a daily basis. Irrespective, I still choose to eat out at least once a week or two. And when eating out, the bill comes to about £10-25 per person.
Dislikes (Part time work): I saw plenty of opportunities for part-time work on campus. Even I had worked across 3-4 different part-time jobs on campus, including student ambassador, welcome week staff, business school experience ambassador, and more. They usually offer zero-hour contracts, which are genuinely amazing as a student.

BSc in Economics - Batch of 2025

Great college, need to make the most of it.
Tips: It is been a great experience, but it takes a lot of effort to move to a different country. Students should be ready to have lots of culture shocks, take the first few weeks to find everything and just settle in. The course is great but depends on how well you utilise your lecturers and other resources. Must have the habit of independent learning and be ready to take initiative.
Likes (Indian Food): There are loads of affordable Indian restaurants and shopping marts where you can find all essential groceries. Prices are typically higher than in India but you will easily find something to fit your budget - especially in Selly Oak. The city centre is also very close and easily accessible with public transport with lots more food options.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are lots of different jobs available, but limited options for international students, since the new visa regulations. The careers service is great - a specific one for all business school courses so you can get individual attention and help as and when required.

Embrace the change and work hard
Tips: If you are coming for masters, you need to prepare for job applications from day 1. Graduate schemes open in September, they are 2-3 year employment programs for freshers. If you are studying undergrad, try to get a sandwich year in which you can apply for jobs. This will make you more employable after graduating. Make sure to give your 100 percent in your final undergraduate year as it will be 75% of your degree. Always aim for 65 percent and above this is considered a good score. There will be no spoon feeding unlike India. You will be responsible for your own studies and submissions.
Likes (Student Life): Campus is amazing as it is one big campus instead of scattered campuses seen in London. Many events take place like carnivals, langar, career networking, and sports related events. Student communities like religious groups, sports, investment societies are present.
Dislikes (Internships): The university has its own career team that guides students by reviewing CVs, mock interviews, etc. However, it is the student's responsibility to reach out to the team. They are easy to reach out to and they have a designated website where you can book slots.
