Enriching Journey at University of Birmingham
Tips: Students should be prepared for a significant amount of independent learning and time management. As an international student, it is important to participate in discussions and read academic literature. I would also recommend budgeting carefully since living expenses in the UK are considerably higher than what we expect. There was also a cultural shift in terms of independence, communication, and everyday life. Yes, I did avail myself of a scholarship during my study time there. I applied for financial aid on the university website and received it on the basis of merit. Students interested in funding should explore the university's website for funding options and scholarships. Overall I am satisfied with my experience at the UOB and living in the UK. The course provided me strong academic exposure and broader understanding of clinical and neuro practices.
Likes (Internships): I gave internships a high rating because the Careers Network at Birmingham is genuinely active and helpful. Through platforms like Handshake, you get direct access to loads of internships, summer placements, and work experience roles tailored to your degree. The uni even offers Work Experience Bursaries if you land an unpaid or low-paying internship, which makes gaining practical experience way more accessible. While specific opportunities depend on your department, the career support and industry ties across the UK are top-tier.
Dislikes (Safety): I rated 4/5 because overall I felt safe and comfortable both on campus and while living in Birmingham. The university provides several safety measures beyond the campus security. The university also provides guidance and support for students dealing with emergencies, harassment, or well-being concerns. My experience of living in Birmingham is generally positive. I found the city student-friendly with a large international student community. I appreciate being able to travel around the city using public transport. The campus itself also felt well connected to the city, which made exploring Birmingham relatively easy.

Public Health MPH - Batch of 2025
4.0
Excellent student life and high academic standards.
Tips: The MPH at Birmingham is no joke—the academic workload hits hard right from the start, so staying on top of your time management is essential. Don't expect standard sit-down exams; almost all your assessment comes down to continuous coursework, group presentations, and heavy research projects where critical analysis is key. Moving to the UK was definitely a major life shift with plenty of ups and downs, but as long as you're ready to take charge of your own learning in the library, you'll adapt quickly.

BA International Relations - Batch of 2025
4.4
A perfect mix of fun, learning and great student life
Tips: The biggest things to prepare before joining UoB are your accommodation and immigration paperwork. Don't leave housing until the last minute because student rooms around campus go quickly. Moving across was surprisingly easy though—the student-led societies and the active Indian community make settling in smooth. Definitely make use of your Personal Tutor as soon as term starts since they’re great for guidance and finding post-enrollment awards. If you're aiming for the initial entry scholarship, keep in mind you need top-tier grades (it was 90%+ for my intake). The Guild of Students is really the backbone of campus life here—they run fun events, offer part-time work, and provide solid support if you're ever struggling academically or feeling homesick.

BSc in Business Management - Batch of 2025
4.5
An exceptional place to discover your potential.
Tips: The university has way more resources than what you can use in your time at the university. So my genuine suggestion would be to put yourself out there. Try as many new things as you can and be comfortable with the ambiguity. In terms of cultural shift, there won't be any major issues. In terms of satisfaction, I think I am pretty satisfied with the university; however, the UK in general is a rough subject. The country is going through a lot and is not in its best position, so setting back and finding jobs is a little harder than usual.
Likes (Indian Food): Birmingham has loads of Indian restaurants all across the city. There is even a small Indian cafe on campus. So personally, I have never faced an issue with Indian/veg food in Birmingham. I usually prefer to cook for myself because it's healthier and cheaper on a daily basis. Irrespective, I still choose to eat out at least once a week or two. And when eating out, the bill comes to about £10-25 per person.
Dislikes (Part time work): I saw plenty of opportunities for part-time work on campus. Even I had worked across 3-4 different part-time jobs on campus, including student ambassador, welcome week staff, business school experience ambassador, and more. They usually offer zero-hour contracts, which are genuinely amazing as a student.

Worth a living, if you have a passion, it's worth the risk and hardship
Tips: Moving over to Birmingham definitely throws a bit of a culture shock your way at first, but it's the kind of place where you find your feet before you know it. The whole transition takes some adjusting—especially getting used to the British weather and the sheer pace of uni life—but everyone is in the same boat, so you blend right in. Financially, the university makes things a bit easier for overseas students by automatically applying a £2,000 international scholarship right to your tuition fees, which takes a decent bite out of the upfront costs. Looking back, I’m incredibly happy with my decision to come here. The Edgbaston campus is stunning, my modules are exactly what I wanted, and living in the UK has been an amazing experience overall.
