History

The University of Kent was established in 1965 by Royal Charter. However, its origins go back to the year 1947. The university’s original name was chosen in 1962 as the University of Kent at Canterbury. The university grew rapidly in the 1960s, with three colleges and many other buildings on campus being completed at the end of the decade. During the 1990s and 2000s, the university expanded beyond its original campus. In 2007, the university was re-branded with a new logo and website. In 2015, Kent University celebrated its 50th anniversary.
