At the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine, University of Houston, fourth-year medical students celebrated Match Day. Match Day is celebrated every year, on the third Friday of March, when scores of graduating medical students across the country are placed into residency programs through the National Resident Matching Program.

“Match Day is a pivotal moment for these students, the culmination of years of tireless dedication, hard work and unyielding resilience,” said Dr. Stephen Spann, founding dean of the Fertitta Family College of Medicine.

“We proudly celebrate their accomplishments and wish them well as they embark on this important and exciting new chapter," added Dr. Stephen Spann.

This year’s Match Day marked major milestone for Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine

Dr. Kristin Kassaw, assistant dean of student affairs said that this year is the inaugural class, so these students are the first to experience this transition of graduating from medical school to actually practice medicine.

The medical graduates secured residency placements. The offer envelopes are the student's door to their future as health care providers who are ready to contribute and make a meaningful difference in society, added Dr. Kristin Kassaw.

University of Houston, ICCR renew agreement to establish new chair on Tamil language, literature

As per reports, the University of Houston has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to set up the ICCR Chair of Indian Studies to conduct research on literature, Tamil language and culture of the university.

The agreement was renewed at a ceremony held between the University of Houston Chancellor and President Dr Renu Khator and the Consul General of India in Houston, DC Manjunath. The leaders welcomed the establishment through a joint declaration issued after PM Narendra Modi's visit to the US in June 2023. 

The MoU was inked last year but renewed for another year this week only at a ceremony held at the University of Houston.

The main objective of the chair is to teach and conduct research on literature, Tamil language and culture at the University of Houston.







"Having knowledge and appreciation for different cultures is a hallmark of an enlightened and advanced society. That’s why I’m so grateful that the Indian Council for Cultural Relations has renewed our visiting scholar’s partnership. It enhances our students’ depth of knowledge and gives them a competitive advantage internationally,” said Renu Khator, as reported by Indian Express.
