Aston University History
The University began as the School of Metallurgy, a part of the Birmingham & Midland Institute in the year 1875, before becoming the Birmingham Municipal Technical School that offered courses in Chemistry, Physics, Metallurgy, and Electrical Engineering.
In 1955, it became the UK's first College of Advanced Technology and received its royal charter from the Queen in 1966. After the approval of the Privy Council in 1997, the university got renamed to its present-day name.
