Aston University History
The University began as the School of Metallurgy, a part of the Birmingham & Midland Institute in the year 1875, before becoming the Birmingham Municipal Technical School that offered courses in Chemistry, Physics, Metallurgy, and Electrical Engineering. In 1927, the university transitioned into the Birmingham Central Technical College and included Botany as part of its course curriculum.
