University of Northampton History
Rooting back to 1924, the university started its journey as the Northampton Technical College and in 1932, St George’s Avenue building was opened by the Duke and Duchess of York. In the year 1937, the School of Arts was founded. It is interesting to note that Margaret Thatcher inaugurated the College of Education at Park Campus. Later in 1975, the merger of the College of Education, College of Technology and College of Art led to the formation of Nene College.
In the year 1999, Nene College was renamed the University College Northampton and finally in 2005, the University of Northampton was established, having been awarded full university status and research degree awarding powers.
