University of Surrey was first established on Sep 9, 1966, after gaining its Royal Charter status and have roots going back to the 19th century. The Battersea Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1891 and began educating in Science and Technology courses around the year 1920. It was renamed to Battersea School of Technology and later shifted to Guildford in 1962.
