- This program is for students with a pre-professional undergraduate architecture degree, (typically a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Architecture) and sufficient coursework to fulfill the Path 2 prerequisites.
- 6 architectural design studios, five or six credits each
- 3 architectural history or architectural theory courses
- 1 or 2 courses addressing passive design or environmental systems
- 1 or 2 structures courses, addressing statics, mechanics of materials, structural analysis, and the design and behavior of basic structural elements and systems
- 1 course addressing construction materials and assembly / construction methods
- Track 2 takes four semesters to complete. UNM Bachelors of Arts in Architecture (BAA) students with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 overall and also in studio courses are automatically admitted to Track 2

The portfolio should be carefully conceived, well designed, neatly prepared, and easily readable digitally. We encourage you to design your portfolio for digital review rather than submitting an electronic version of your printed portfolio.
Additionally, the portfolio should provide an indication of your aptitude for thinking critically and creatively through design. This can come in many forms. Such items as photographs of executed artwork, pottery, sculpture, photographic essays, and weaving have been submitted in the past. In addition, we have received prose, poetry, published writings, and illustrated reports as evidence of an applicant’s interest and experience in dealing with design or aesthetic matters. With the new digital requirement, you can also embed links to online YouTube videos in your portfolio. All of these can be meaningful, and we encourage you to think freely about the manner in which they may meet this application requirement.
For successful submission, the portfolio:
- Must be no more than 4 MB in size. Any portfolio over 4 MB will not be accepted by our online form.
- Must be a .pdf file. We do not accept any other file types.
- Portfolios will be reviewed digitally (they will not be printed), therefore we suggest formatting your portfolio for view on a computer screen, and we suggest using a horizontal format in your design.
