Technical University of Darmstadt History
TU Darmstadt was established in 1877 and is one of oldest universities in Germany. First electrical engineering faculty was established by the university in 1883 with the first electrical engineering degree program. It awarded its first honorary doctorate in 1900.
In 1902 Julius Adolf Mollinger and Ernst Vetterlein were first diploma engineers to receive doctorate. After this it became hallmark of the university. TU Darmstadt was designated as autonomous university in 2004 making it the first in Germany.
