Technical University of Darmstadt Eligibility Criteria for Indian Students

The eligibility criteria at TU Darmstadt differ for different course levels. Below, we have listed down the eligibility criteria for Indian students to apply to TU Darmstadt for its bachelor's and master's courses.  

For Bachelor's Programmes

The German school system runs for 13 years, while the Indian system runs for 12. So, Indian students cannot apply directly as they do not meet the eligibility criteria of a German bachelor's programme with just a Class 12 certificate. So, you must do one of the following first:

1. Complete one year of a recognised Bachelor's degree in India, and have it evaluated (this may make you eligible for direct entry, subject to verification),
   • Note: German academic authorities (ZAB) and the Anabin Database strictly require this one year of study to be part of a recognised, multi-year university degree program. Standard 1-year, 2-year, or 3-year vocational diploma courses from polytechnics or technical boards generally do not qualify you to skip the German preparatory course (Studienkolleg). 
2. Or, attend a Studienkolleg (a one-year German foundation/preparatory course) and pass the final Feststellungsprüfung (assessment exam).

Now, it is important to understand that TU Darmstadt runs its own Studienkolleg Darmstadt, and it offers two distinct, specialised foundational tracks, as given below.

• T-Course: The T-Kurs is designed for students who want to pursue degrees in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Natural Sciences (excluding biology).
• G-Course: The G-Kurs is designed for students targeting degrees in Humanities, Social Sciences, Arts, and German Studies.

Important Point to Note:  You cannot apply directly to the Studienkolleg Darmstadt. You must apply for your target Bachelor's program via TU Darmstadt's online portal. And if they deem your school-leaving certificate insufficient for direct entry, they will issue you an invitation to the Studienkolleg entrance exam.

For Master's Programmes

Generally, a relevant bachelor's degree from a recognised Indian university with strong subject alignment to the chosen master's programme is required. The rest of the eligibility requirements for getting a master's course at TU Darmstadt are given below.

• If you're in your final semester of a Bachelor's degree, you can still apply - TU Darmstadt accepts a certificate of prospective graduation along with your latest transcript

Note for APS Certificate Requirement for Indian Students

An APS Certificate must be mandatorily submitted by Indian students as it verifies the authenticity of their academic documents. It must be noted that TU Darmstadt requires an APS certificate for all - bachelor's, master's, Studienkolleg and German-language preparatory course applicants.

As part of the recent changes, Indian postgraduate applicants are required to take the dMat (Digital Master Test) as part of the APS evaluation process.

How to Apply to Get into the Technical University of Darmstadt?

Prospective Indian students must use the official TUCaN portal to apply online. Here are the steps involved in TU Darmstadt's application process:

1. Check whether you're eligible for your course on the anabin portal - first thing before finalising anything else.   
2. Once you fulfil the eligibility requirements, move on to registering and logging into the TUCaN portal.
3. Now, fill out an online application form from this portal and submit your application form. 
4. Take a print of the Cover Sheet (Antrag auf Zulassung/Einschreibung) generated after submission.
   • Note: Now, this is the most tricky part, which is not available with other study destinations. TU Darmstadt requires international applicants to send physical paper copies of their official documents by post or courier. While you must begin your application online through the TUCaN application portal, your application is only considered legally binding once the university receives your signed application form and paper documents via physical mail.
5. Now go to the "My Application" section on the TUCaN portal, and there you will find the list of all the required documents as per your case. Note down this list and get a simple copy of each of these documents ready -  not notarised, just simple copies. 
6. Post the required documents along with your signed Cover Sheet to the following address:
