About Auckland University of Technology
The Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is a public research university based in Auckland, New Zealand. It received university status in 2000. University History
AUT University New Zealand received university status in 2000, but it was founded back in 1895 as the Auckland Technical School at Rutland Street with 137 students. Students enrolled in night classes for vocational education. George George was appointed the school's first director in 1902. In 1906, it was renamed as the Auckland Technical College, before again being renamed as the Seddon Memorial Technical College. By 1939, it became the largest school in New Zealand with more than 4,200 students.
