History
Yonsei University was first established in 1885 as Korea’s first modern hospital, named Gwanghyewon by Horace N. Allen. Later, Horace along with Horace G. Underwood worked together and established Severance Medical College. Horace G. Underwood also established Chosun Christian College, which was later renamed as Yonhi University. During Japenese colonization, both the instiutions faced several restrictions and therefore decided to combine together to form Yonsei University.
