A prestigious and academically strong university with great exposure
Tips: Students should know that USYD is academically demanding and expect consistent effort, independent learning, and good time management. Moving to Sydney was a massive mix of excitement and pure chaos. The study culture here was a total shock to the system at first—you're suddenly forced to do a ton of independent learning, endless group projects, and actually speak up constantly in class. On top of that, navigating the day-to-day cultural shift was pretty overwhelming. You have to get used to a completely different communication style, adapt to the local lifestyle, and somehow figure out how to manage your own budget when the city is notoriously expensive. I availed a 20% scholarship, but still I had to plan my finances carefully. Overall, I am satisfied with the university, course and country because the experience has helped me grow academically, professionally and personally.
Likes (Safety): I rated 5 for safety because I felt the campus and surrounding areas were generally secure, organized and student-friendly. Apart from campus security, USYD provides services such as emergency support, safety alerts, the SafeZone app, counseling/reporting support, and security assistance when required. Sydney is mostly safe and welcoming, though the city can feel expensive and crowded at times, especially around peak transport hours.
Dislikes (Value for money): I rated 3 for value for money because the University of Sydney offers strong academic quality, global reputation, experienced faculty, and good career exposure, but the tuition fee is quite high for international students. The fee feels partly justified because of the university brand value, resources, industry connections, and quality of teaching, but the overall cost becomes heavy when accommodation and living expenses in Sydney are added.

Supportive learning environment with good opportunities but manage your expenses wisely.
Tips: Before joining the university students should know that the university academics are very fast paced. Students should be prepared for an independent and self driven learning environment. My transition was smooth overall, though there was an initial cultural shift in terms of communication and academic expectations.
Likes (Value for money): The course offers strong academic content and practical exposure and also access to useful learning resources. The teaching quality and industry relevant curriculum justify the tuition fee cost. Studying in Australia provides good global exposure and career opportunities.
Dislikes (Internships): Moderate amount of guidance through career services, students are largely expected to search and apply independently. The support is helpful but not hands on. Many available internships and casual work relevant to computer Science but competition is very high.

A wonderful place to learn and earn.
Tips: Students must check for scholarships for international students, as the University of Sydney provides 20% scholarships to all Indian students who apply before paying the fees. Don't do unnecessary prerequisites if not necessary, they do waive them. Also, don't pay for the application fees as it is waived all the time.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Wonderful campus and activities. There are tonnes of events every month for students. There are many societies for students as well to join and have fun. Engaging activities and welcoming events every semester. Parties and clubs are held now and then. Support and well-being for students as well.
Dislikes (Student Life): Excellent staff and university facilities. Accessible rooms with 24-hour open library and student rooms allocated specially for international students. Also, the teaching facilities here are high-tech with the most advanced technologies installed.

Master of Professional Engineering (Accelerated) (Electrical) - Batch of 2024

Quality Education, practical experience, but high cost.
Tips: The university provides excellent facilities, but the tuition fee is expensive. It is very academically oriented and one would excel if looking into academic research with good funding and support. There is a little shortage of diversity in the classrooms, especially for master's degree courses. Finding jobs and internships in the teaching sector is tough at present, and networking is the biggest source to find good opportunities. Although the service sector jobs are huge in number, there is a dearth of R&D jobs, especially for international students on visas. The city has become more and more expensive each year with ever-increasing rents and cost of living. Universities don't offer scholarships that are of significant amount except for PhD and Post Doc students. The city and the country are one of the most beautiful places to live with a big Indian community already settled here in certain parts. Overall, the education is good, but it is of less value for money considering the high auxiliary expenses however, if you can manage to get a scholarship, it's a good option to consider.
Likes (Public transportation): Well-connected public transport, although a bit expensive. A comprehensive network of trains and buses running round the clock. Transportation directly connects most of the residential places to the university as the central station and central bus stop are next to the university. It is also possible to find accommodation close to university.
Dislikes (Part time work): Due to a large number of international students coming to Sydney, the number of opportunities is limited and that is the case for both on-campus and off-campus jobs. Part-time work with academics is quite manageable as long as you study throughout the semester. Hourly rate for part-time jobs off campus is around 25-30 AUD.

Usyd Description by a postgrad student
Tips: Everything regarding planning your course must be discovered yourself. And networking with like-minded individuals is just as important. The curriculum sometimes clashes with undergrad students which makes you question the postgraduate degree but it's easier to find internships.
Likes (Indian Food): Plenty of Indian food restaurants in the city. I work a part-time job at one of them. So anytime you crave Indian food just go down to paramatta, Harris park, and you'll find plenty of food joints representing different cuisines of India. So can't really miss home food here.
Dislikes (Internships): Internships in my field of study are available only for domestic students, as I found out recently. There's a lot of competition when it comes to roles like Research Assistants and Teaching Assistants, it's always better to look for internships externally.

Great academics and campus life.
Tips: Before joining the university students should be aware that it is a very fast paced environment and a highly diverse campus culture. My transition was smooth but there was a noticeable cultural switch in classroom preparation and study preparation. I am genuinely satisfied with the university and the quality of the course.
Likes (Value for money): Best teaching and opportunities after completing graduation. Highly valuable for money because the quality of teaching and research exposure and global reputation of the university justify the tuition fees. The academic experience and networking opportunities and post study career outcomes makes program worth the cost despite relatively high living expenses.
Dislikes (Part time work): Getting a part time job in university of out of the university is a little tough in the initial days. On average after landing in Australia you can get a part time job after 2-3 months. On campus jobs are limited and competitive, and customer service is common. The average pay is AUD 25-26 per hour depending on the role and experience.
