The roots of Regina University go back to the year 1911, when the Methodist Church established Regina College as a residential high school. In 1925, Regina College became a junior college of the University of Saskatchewan, and started offering first-year Arts and Science classes. In the 1950s, a School of Arts was created and the Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery was established. Finally, in 1961, Regina College acquired degree-granting status as the University of Saskatchewan-Regina Campus. The institute continued to grow and in 1974, the University of Regina was established as an independent institute. The university celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.
