Master of Science in Engineering in Electrical Engineering - Batch of 2026

Campus is good. You can explore opportunities in different fields. Faculty are friendly.
Tips: Look for scholarships and the courses before you choose the university. I've received a scholarship of 6000 in my first year. I would say ASU is good for analogue courses. I am satisfied with my university courses and would suggest taking help from seniors and choose courses.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation in the city is free of cost, and students have access to shuttle services that operate across different campuses. You will have other facilities like rail, metro buses which travel across the city and the public transportation is not that expensive here.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are very few companies that offer visa sponsorship. Even for the fresh graduation roles, they are expecting to have a minimum of 2+ years of experience. The salary would range from 80,000 to 100,000 USD depending on their experience. Explore internship opportunities and apply to them as soon as possible.

Learning experience with ups and downs.
Tips: I transitioned well here as there were numerous advisory sessions and orientation to basically answer everything you need to know. Be prepared for a rigorous journey but the research exposure makes it worthwhile. I wasn't too impressed with the prospects of part time work but if you are quick, you can get a few decent side hustles.

Well organized and welcoming.
Tips: The university is massive so there is lot of walking around campus. Everything is well organised here and that makes learning a lot more straightforward. Professors are well known in their industries and scholarships are available just inquire about the procedure in advance. Part time jobs are few and they pay around 10 to 15 USD per hour if you get one on campus. Downtown Temper is a fun place to hang out.

Transitioning and growth oriented journey.
Tips: The biggest problem for me was food since I am a vegetarian. It took time to transition but then I started cooking for myself and now it's normal. I got a scholarship and applying for it was a necessary part of the application process. In terms of course and University, this feels like a perfect fit for me. But in terms of the country, it is stressful and uncertain, which makes it less than desirable.
Likes (Safety): ASU has its own police department and emergency buttons are installed everywhere on the campus. Police patrols are very frequent and Temper, being a small town, doesn't have a high crime rate. We also get updates about crime around the university through email notifications.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The government is cracking down on the immigration system and making it harder than it already is to settle here in the US. I am hoping it will get better. The only thing that is positive is that after getting education from the US, there are a lot of options not just in the US but around the world.

It is a great experience.
Tips: One thing you should know is that Arizona's heat is too much. When you arrive, get ready to become an omelette. But it's a really great experience studying at ASU. Professors are very hill and easy-going. One tip I can give is people you meet on your orientation day are very crucial for your social life.

Expensive, fun and motivating.
Tips: There were many cultural shifts, like the traffic rules, late night life. In India, on eclipse day, mom says not to see the moon, but here everyone loves to see the moon on that day. I got the new American University scholarship, which is actually common for the Bachelor's students.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty is really cool and holds office hours for students whenever possible. Teaching methodology is mostly them just making us understand what the concept is and explaining it. It depends on the students, as most of the teaching is independent and requires students to do the research to find better tools for coding. They help us understand the concept in depth but the process is very independent and depends on students. To be honest, there will be no spoon feeding like in India.
Dislikes (Value for money): I don't actually think the tuition fee is justified for my course. I feel like I am paying more even after getting the scholarship. Compared with the other universities where my friends are currently studying. It would be better if there were more scholarship options available for international students.

My college is good enough, providing a lot of opportunities to students, it is good in every aspect.
Tips: Students should be aware of the fees, scholarships, weather, post-graduation opportunities, and environment. Also, compare it with other universities. Talk and connect with people who have been to this university before. Plan your focus area before arriving.
Likes (Student Life): The environment is quite friendly on the campus. As the campus area is quite beautiful, you can spend your whole day on campus. There are many events organised by many clubs, like cultural events for international students, Sports games, etc. There are various hiking, swimming, dance, cultural, and international clubs based in the respective country.
Dislikes (Value for money): I think it's quite expensive, but the education and the infrastructure of the university are good. So it totally depends on us how we thrive in this environment, as competition is everywhere. Although for the international students the fees would be quite expensive.

Balancing studies, work and immigration hurdles at ASU.
Tips: Students must apply for on-campus jobs, which are available on portals so that they can find it easy to get on-campus jobs and which will help them to cover their expenses, and also try to apply for more and more scholarship options. Studying at this university is quite good, but still a lot of competition. As an international student, we have to face the fact that here at ASU there is a huge quantity of international students.
Likes (Public transportation): The one thing I like most in Tempe, in the state of Arizona, is the Orbit buses. We 70% travel through this shuttle service, which is free for everyone, whether you're a student or outside and if we talk about paid transportation service, it's quite easy and available for almost every and is cheap.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): If we looked at current Immigration condition 2025 and lawns are coming out as like for H1b companies will have to pay 100,000$, so working here and setting quietly getting difficult and its unpredictable any thing can happen any time and on other hand for permanent residence que is very long candidate will have to wait like 10 to 15 or may be more years so its quitely hard to get permanent residence.

Arizona State University is a gateway to success for all international students.
Tips: Be prepared for extreme heat, as it is very hot here in Arizona. There are a few communities where you can live with Indians. Start applying for part-time jobs and scholarships as soon as you get access to the Arizona State University portals, and be open to cultural shifts and networking.
Likes (Safety): Since the U. S. offers strong opportunities for permanent settlement with good career prospects. If given the chance, I would like to settle here permanently, as it aligns with my long-term professional and personal goals.
Dislikes (Indian Food): While Indian restaurants are available, they can be a bit pricey compared to home-cooked meals. There are both casual dining and fine-dining options, but I usually prefer cooking myself as it's healthier and more economical. That's why Arizona State University is surrounded by Indian restaurants.

MBA/MS in Industrial Engineering - Batch of 2024

The college has a good academic structure and curriculum.
Tips: After coming here, especially to this university and city, I changed a lot personally and professionally. My food habits changed; in India, I never went a day without rice or Indian curries, but here, I became accustomed to American food. My way of doing assignments changed; it became much easier. My communication and social skills improved, and I became more easy-going and adaptable. I didn't avail any scholarships, but I had a part-time on-campus job where I learned the value of labour; I was working as a dishwasher at the campus dining hall. While I'm not fully satisfied with how my career went, I personally learned and evolved a lot. Thanks to the good and bad people in my life, and the people who supported me through thick and thin.
Likes (Public transportation): There are many free buses to and from college, from student housing and the surrounding areas. There are also minimal-cost buses for longer routes, along with metro trains and bus passes, making it a good transportation system. I reduced my expenses considerably because of this and enjoyed travelling around the city with friends using the buses.
Dislikes (Value for money): My total fees are around 60,000 dollars. While the college is well-rated and has a good academic structure and curriculum, the courses are not specialised or designed for hands-on work. Many things are purely mathematical rather than practical or job-oriented. Some courses, like systems engineering, financial engineering, production systems, and stochastic, are good, but most end with mathematical data. I barely learned skills related to my current job; in fact, other non-core courses taught me more than the core courses. If you are interested in quality or the analyst side of industrial engineering, this college is great, but it lacks hands-on experience, and the projects are not hands-on either. There are many positives, but for the money we are putting in, it could be much better.

Campus of growth and opportunities.
Tips: Moving away from home is a challenge for everyone. As an Indian, I experienced a cultural shift, as there are no Indian festivals celebrated, and being away from family makes it difficult to maintain my own cultural identity. However, ASU has clubs and organisations that celebrate festivals from all cultures.
Likes (Public transportation): Temper, Arizona in the United States is one of the best town with excellent public transportation. It is very rare in the United States. It has public buses and metro rail which can be used right from the doorstep. Also, the town has Valley metro buses and street car which provides ride without any charges.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Since 2024, part-time job opportunities on campus have decreased, mainly due to budget cuts. Many students have lost their part-time positions, and pay for existing workers has not increased significantly. New workers also receive lower hourly wages. The limited number of jobs is a result of increased student numbers and fewer available positions.

Practical learning and global exposure with strong career outcomes.
Tips: Students should be prepared for a fast-paced curriculum and independent learning. The cultural shift includes open class discussions and team-based work. Transitioning was smooth with support from peers. I didn't receive a scholarship, as most are merit-based and limited.
Dislikes (Part time work): ASU offers a solid MS in CS and Big Data Engineering programme with strong faculty and industry-aligned curriculum. On-campus part-time jobs are limited and competitive, off-campus work is restricted. Balancing work and academics is manageable with planning. Faculty are diverse, approachable, and focus on practical learning. Living costs average around 5000 dollars/month. Post-graduation salaries are promising. If you want to experience the American university life, then this is the right place.
Tips: If you're interested in studying in Arizona, be aware that extreme summers can occur, reaching temperatures as high as 50 degrees. If you have a CGPA of 8.5 or higher, you can apply for a scholarship worth up to 6,000 per year. Otherwise, you can still apply for a fellowship worth up to 1,000 annually. If you want to work part-time while studying, you should try to apply as soon as you get your visa. The college has its own buses to travel from one campus to another, which is a plus. I feel safe living in the city because it's a college town. The transportation is free throughout the city, which is great. I’m happy there are a lot of grocery stores and stores that sell products from different countries in Tempe.
Dislikes (Internships): The job market is the only thing that is negative about internships at this college. Aside from that, students do have opportunities for good internships here. The alumni network is amazing. Plus, the college runs a ton of events that connect students with alumni, and they help students build resumes with guidance from people already working in the fields that the students are interested in.

The university of filled with talented and friendly professors. The student life was excellent.
Tips: Other than many European countries, New Zealand is very immigrant-friendly. Everyone is minding their own business, and most of the people are really friendly. I haven't experienced any cultural shifts as everyone is easygoing and many people from India were here.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty members are very talented and helpful. They'll allow us special time slots to ask doubts and they'll help us study. Proper sessions are conducted without the need for extra classes. The study materials provided are also of good quality.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are many companies out here. But it is a different scenario, there are no direct campus placements conducted. Top tier academic with DIY vibe.
Tips: Before joining, know that you must manage your own schedule and take the DELNA English test. Build the interpersonal or soft skills because universities focus on networking which will help in communication and making friends. Before coming check the accommodation on campus and the city is expensive, look for home stay or the outskirts.
Likes (Safety): The University of Auckland scores for safety because of security escorts and swipe-card building access. The university app "UoA Kahau" and well-lit provide the safe route. While the campus is secure, avoid Albert Park at night time due to homelessness. If someone is locked somewhere on the campus, then call the security they will help.
Dislikes (Internships): To get an internship as an international student is difficult but not impossible. The university offers CDES resume workshops and job boards, but active placements are rare. Transportation in Auckland is pretty good.
Tips: Students should be prepared for a major cultural shift. New Zealand is diverse, although the culture is quite different compared to where I come from, India. Adjustment takes time, especially if you’re coming from a very social and food authentic country food cost of food is quite high and the budget is unrealistic. A basic meal will cost you at least 25. There are a few options that are quite feasible start from 15, targeting students, but trust me not worth paying that much money. Cooking at home is mandatory apart from that, university lifestyle is typically dependent upon your course which you select mine was construction management. So it was pretty good for me as I already had a few years of experience in my field. I learnt a lot. I would say it wasn’t easy, but structured and practical. The value for money comes from learning, News software and skills which will add up to your skill set as per the requirements of the industry.
Dislikes (Value for money): I think the tuition fees that I paid for 8 months were 55,000, although I learnt a lot and the difference between the techniques which I learn in my country, India and New Zealand is quite different. Although I think 55,000 for one year ago which was finished in eight months, was not a deal for me. I used to live around 3 km from the University of Auckland and I used to use bus, which was quite accurate and very reasonable.

A strong foundation for the future growth.
Tips: Cultural experience is immense; getting used to it takes around 6 months of time. The cultural diversity comes especially when the festive season occurs. Also sports are different from our country which can cause a cultural shift. From the NZ Immigration department, the PM scholarship plan is there.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Top notch accessibility is provided with campus maps services as well. Teaching methodology is mostly PowerPoint and videos. The numerical part is also taught regarding the same as well as Zoomed projection techniques. Diversity is immense, you come across students from across the planet especially remote places, eg, Argentina, the Netherlands, Chile, Japan, etc.
Dislikes (Part time work): On campus jobs are limited to students who are living in Unilodges and college hostels; other jobs are available at local supermarkets and companies with vacancies—they're posted on their websites. You are legally entitled to work 20 hrs a week so it's quite manageable from an academic point of view. The current minimum wage is 23.85/hr. The average goes around the same amount.

Great city, people and work life balance.
Tips: Students should be aware of the University and their academics, specifically academic integrity. English communication is key and should be improved to the max whilst here. You have a wide range of scholarships available based on your previous grades or interviews with the evaluation panel.
Likes (Safety): Auckland is one of the top ranked student friendly cities. And New Zealand stands still in the happiness index. You won't have any bad experiences up here rather you will get the best treatment as a student. There are student hubs, student discounts everywhere a great campus with magnificent laboratory facilities.

Good research institute.
Tips: I'm satisfied with the university courses. As it's updated and uses advanced technologies, it has really well-equipped labs. I haven't got the scholarship, but the university provides it scholarship, but not everyone can get it. You will overcome all your comfort zones.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty of my department is highly knowledgeable supportive and invests in students learning and research. Faculty members help even after working hours, and there is are student service support to help students. Faculty are of diverse backgrounds with lecturers from different countries and backgrounds.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Companies rarely sponsor visas but employees can come on-site on a specific work visa. Nursing, medical roles and unskilled or skilled labourers with minimum wages of $25 to $30 per hour. The job market in New Zealand is competitive with many people applying for the same roles.

The availability of part time on-campus is very low and the university is very competitive.
Tips: Students should be aware of cultural differences and have essential life skills like cooking. They also need to be able to manage a 16-hour day with academics, part-time work, and personal obligations. Unfortunately, I did not receive a scholarship because they are very limited and competitive. The people here are generally nice, and there are always security guards and police officers around to keep everyone safe. If you are thinking about moving here, I would say that you should consider it. The city has a lot to offer, and I think you will be happy with your decision. I am very satisfied with my course, university, and the country.
Dislikes (Part time work): The availability of part time work on campus is very low and given the number of students at the university, it's very competitive. Off campus opportunities are better and you can usually find a job within a month if you keep applying. The course schedule is a bit hectic, but it's manageable if you have a background in analytics. The average payout is quite good.

The city is expensive and it is difficult to find part time job.
Tips: This college is nice, and most of the faculty are really nice. However, some teachers have a very memory-based teaching method, which makes it difficult to learn the concepts that are being taught. Also, Auckland is very expensive, especially rent, so students should do their research on the country and the college before deciding to study here. Finding a job is very difficult, both part-time and full-time, so students should consider all their options, including studying in Australia.
Likes (Indian Food): Auckland has a large Indian community, and as a result, there are a lot of Indian restaurants and grocery stores in the city. Indian restaurants cost about 30-40 dollars per meal. The restaurants are expensive, but if you buy groceries at Indian stores and cook at home, you can save a lot of money. The grocery stores also have a wide variety of Indian ingredients that you can use to cook your own meals.
Dislikes (Part time work): The job market in Auckland is very tough as the country is deep in recession, and there are no part-time jobs. Students might find some casual jobs, but those are one-offs, and the students cannot rely on them. Barely any student in my Cohort has a job yet. It has been around more than 5 months and everyone is just relying on the money from parents. Living costs are through the roof so surviving here as a student is stressful and tough.

University Of Auckland: Opportunities, growth and adaptation.
Tips: Students should be aware that the coursework here is intensive, so time management is crucial. They should explore the resources available to them such as the library, labs and student clubs. One should also do a thorough research of the cost of living in the respective area. I am also a recipient of the University of Auckland India Achievers Scholarship, which partly covered my tuition fees for a year. I applied by submitting my academic transcripts, statement of purpose and recommendation letters. I am very happy to be a student here and look forward to gaining work experience after completing my studies.
Likes (Public transportation): The public transportation system in Auckland is very convenient. Buses and trains run frequently and the routes are well-connected to major areas. Students can easily commute to and from campus using a Transportation Card that can be used on all public transport with just a tap. The card needs to be recharged once it gets exhausted.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The University of Auckland has a diverse faculty but the quality of the teaching faculty varies greatly from department to department. The faculty in my department is comprised of some of the most highly skilled mathematics professors in New Zealand. However it can be difficult to reach out to them because of the large number of students they have to handle.

Esha’s positive opinion about life at the University of Auckland.
Tips: The culture itself is very diverse with a lot of clubs and event always going on. I did not apply for any scholarships, however, there are plenty to apply for and always advertised in and outside of class. I am, overall, very satisfied with the University of Auckland, the quality of my engineering courses, and the kiwi atmosphere as a whole.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty are all easily accessible by email, in-person after classes, and via office hours which they all offer. Teaching methods vary across faculty members however they all ask for feedback and cater to each class to meet the class's wants and needs. The teaching faculty is incredibly diverse in both nationality and gender.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The campus is very well connected with the rest of the city, in fact it is in the centre. Public transport is everywhere, and you can use it to get anywhere, however, the prices have gone up, so I highly recommend applying for a Tertiary Study discount.

Overall, I’ve loved my experience here.
Tips: I found the transition easy as everyone was super friendly. I stayed in halls in my first year. I was able to make friends easily, as I have always been a very social person. The halls were the right place for me to be, and I would recommend it to all of you.
Likes (Part time work): I work as a student ambassador and editor of our magazine, both of which pay me around 25 dollars an hour. The work is hectic but manageable. The magazine is a 5-hour-a-week work, and student ambassadors let me pick up shifts according to my convenience.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I usually cook for myself. I just haven't found the best authentic Indian food. I'm sure there are many restaurants, especially outside the city, but I tend to cook at home because I enjoy it more. There are a lot of good Asian restaurants that I often go to.

Stressful but great support from the faculty.
Tips: I have lived in New Zealand for a while so I did not experience any feelings of cultural change. However, I do believe that within my field of studies, some races can be less privileged than others. On the positive side, there is a lot of support from teaching staff. On the negative side, the workload can be very stressful, especially near the end of the semester. Also, it is becoming increasingly difficult for immigrants to settle in New Zealand. It was difficult for them to come here, but based on more recent times, it is even more difficult for individuals to come here and build a life.
Likes (Student Life): I usually go to class and then get something to eat. Recently, I went to a student market day which was a lot of fun. There was music playing and the atmosphere was very lively. Even when I'm just on campus there's usually music playing and the atmosphere is always lively. Sometimes I even get free stuff.

A simple university with a diverse range of students and different faculties.
Tips: There wasn't a cultural shift for me. However, some things that are native to New Zealand can be a bit of a shift. The university is a little boring, and the country doesn't have many things to do. On the other hand, the people are very friendly, and it's easy to make friends. The lifestyle is very relaxed.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The University of Auckland has a great building and a nice space to work. The faculty members are very diverse. The teaching includes labs, tutorials, and lectures. Most classes have three lectures per week, an hour or two hours long. Commerce labs are one hour long, and science labs are three hours of practical work. Tutorials are one hour long and are held biweekly.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I'm not sure what the job market was like before the recession, but it's difficult to get an internship these days. Retail stores usually hire people if they have working visas, and sometimes companies offer internships that lead to graduate jobs at "Big 4" companies.

Very limited internship and job opportunities.
Tips: The only thing I would recommend is to practice academic writing and be aware of referencing while completing the assignments. I've seen people being penalized for not citing relevant sources. There are many scholarships available at the University of Auckland but you just have to make sure you put your best foot forward.
Likes (Indian Food): There are a lot of Indian restaurants and takeaways available in the city but to cut down on the expenses, I prefer to cook at home. The amount you'll spend on eating out for one time can be enough to cook for 2 days at home. Some restaurants serve food at lower prices for students as they run promotions and offers to attract students.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are a lot of international students coming to New Zealand, so there are more people than jobs. The University does hire students for roles like Students Hub advisor and international students ambassador, but those roles are highly competitive. The part-time jobs available for international students are usually in hospitality, retail, and small businesses around the city and are paid a minimum wage that is sufficient to manage expenses.

The university provides a fun and eventful environment.
Tips: The university does not provide internships or post-study jobs. The students are sent to find work on their own. The university only helps with CV checks and interview trips. There are not a lot of jobs available at this time, so much so that even part-time jobs are hard to find. A lot of students don't pay attention to other students unless they are in a group project with them. Overall, I am satisfied with my university and course but not satisfied with the country.
Likes (Indian Food): There is a large variety of restaurants and convenience stores. They are either cheap or expensive and are near campus. I prefer to cook myself since it is essentially cheaper and I get to eat what I enjoy. Many people choose to spend money on food and it is more expensive near campus because more students will buy from them so they raise prices.

The university provides good internships and the faculty are talented, respectful and understanding.
Tips: When preparing for a journey that balances work, classes, fun and exploration, it's essential to approach it with a strategic mindset. Students need to ensure that they're well-prepared for each aspect of this journey, starting with a clear plan for managing their responsibilities at work, academic commitments, and personal interests. It's important to stay organised, set realistic goals, and prioritise your task effectively. Securing a scholarship can be challenging, but it's achievable if you meet the eligibility criteria. Attending a top university is a prestigious accomplishment and can be incredibly fulfilling. Being part of such an institution can open doors of opportunities, both academically and professionally.

A bit expensive but good experience.
Tips: Scholarships are tough to get, there aren't enough scholarships for international students. There is a cultural shift for sure. UoA is focused on research so there's a lot of self-study involved compared to the Indian education system. Plus New Zealand has strong cultural roots so good to know about it a little beforehand. The university was good, good course but highly-priced.
Likes (Public transportation): Good connection to university via buses and bike. Plus there's plenty of accommodation around the university so it's east to travel. Public transport isn't the cheapest, students get some discount though. It's easier to purchase your own bike or scooter for better travel experience.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Good chances of getting a permanent residence after your Masters if you land a full-time job. The work visa after Master is for 3 years so most students apply for PR in that time frame. I'd like to permanently immigrate because of the work culture. The pay scale can be better.

Academic brilliance and diversity
Tips: I faced a transition to adapt to a new country's culture and educational system. This transition involved adjusting to a different teaching style, making new friends, and local customs. With time most international students find ways to overcome these challenges.
Likes (Quality of faculty): University faculty is friendly, approachable, and readily available to assist students. They create a welcoming environment for seeking help and guidance in studies and academic matters. They have conducted lectures, discussions, hand-on activities, and technology integration.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are different types of restaurants like casual dinners which cost $10 to $20, cafes cost around 5 to 20 dollars, seafood costs around 20 to 40 dollars. If you are vegetarian or vegan then you should pay 15 to 25 dollars at one-time meal. I generally prefer to cook myself.
