AUT gave me the best experience to grow professionally.
Tips: All incoming AUT students need to be aware that the workload for the courses there is substantial. It's not going to be a cakewalk, so to speak. There will be a lot of pressure to perform. That's not to say that there will be no time for fun, but it is definitely going to be necessary to plan. There's also the problem of keeping both studies and any part-time work they might be doing in order. I think it's possible to handle both. I was pretty glad I picked AUT.

Diverse university with great learning opportunities and growth.
Tips: We should know fluent English in the aspect of speaking, and also when and where to answer. There will also be a major impact on our lifestyles. I have received an accommodation scholarship for the student accommodation, which I applied for through the university website. New Zealand allows students to settle here after they have completed their course. They allow students to stay there for post-study visas up to three years after completing the course. If you can find a job in your field of study, that is also on the greenlist, then you are eligible for permanent residency. Overall, I am very satisfied with the university and with everything I have chosen so far, although it will also depend on the individual and on their chosen course of study.
Dislikes (Part time work): On-campus part-time jobs are a bit hard to get into, as there will be heaps of applications, however, off-campus jobs are comparatively easy depending on experience and connection. Most of the part-time jobs can be easily manageable with the academics, as the shift will be with our preference.

A transformative educational experience.
Tips: The transition was smooth since New Zealand is an English-speaking country. The people here are friendly and diverse, which made setting in easier. Unfortunately, I could not avail any scholarships as I was unaware of the opportunities available. To students seeking scholarships, I highly recommend checking the university website regularly and there is a deadline. You can also directly contact the scholarship office via email for guidance. Throughout my journey, I have taken on multiple roles, including Student Ambassador, RUOK Advisory as a part-time job, Student Editor, Peer-Reviewer, Volunteer and Entrepreneur. The university is highly supportive of student's needs, and I encourage future students to explore and utilize all available support systems to enhance their experience. Also, before choosing a country to study in, make sure to research the job market. Opportunities can fluctuate, and being informed about employment trends will help make a more strategic decision about the future. Overall, I am very satisfied with my university, course, and life in New Zealand, as I have gained valuable skills and grown both personally and professionally.
Likes (Value for money): The tuition fees are high but the facilities provided are really good. The classrooms, access to libraries, the latest study materials, practical approach to learning, some papers have exams though, and the student services and support system available make the expenditure worth it.
Dislikes (Internships): While there's a lot of guidance available for finding or applying to internships, getting one has been increasingly difficult due to rising competition. Platforms like Summer of Teach provide a great opportunity for paid internships in New Zealand. Internships are available in the related fields of study. Sometimes students must move to a different city within New Zealand to complete the internship.

The faculty are highly knowledgeable and experts in their field.
Tips: There are scholarships that you can avail of at any point of time during your course. There is a considerable number of Indian and Indian food available, so not much of a cultural shift. There is a large number of international students including Chinese and Indians. You have to study yourself and lecturers will only teach assuming you have prior knowledge of the subject. You have to do your homework really well. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my course, university and the country.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): The chances of permanent settlement are really easy. You just have to follow the general immigration path. Given a chance, I might like to permanently immigrate for its peaceful environment and natural beauty. You need to have good references and a network here to land a job as the job market is tight but once you land the first job things get easier.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Transportation is well connected with regular buses at small intervals but the cost of transportation is too high even with student discounts. However, you get a travel pass limit of 50 dollars per week. As an international student that cost seems too high.

Excellent faculty and an amazing university experience.
Tips: The university experience is a lot different from what I had in India. The assignments are very practical, and there is help whenever you ask for it. I availed a scholarship from the Faculty of Arts and Culture which added NZD 5000 towards my fees. I'm very satisfied with the experience.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is excellent and extremely approachable. All the professors are very kind and helpful. The entire course is taught in a very practical manner which is helpful to get a job in the future. The faculty is very diverse in terms of nationality.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The campus is well connected with the rest of the city via trains and buses. However, public transport is quite expensive, and trains and buses are either often late or get cancelled at the last moment. While students do receive a discount, the expenses are still not very affordable.

My transformative experience at AUT.
Tips: Coming from a Cambridge board and A Level background I was somewhat familiar with the Western education system. However, adapting to university life in a new country had its challenges. Since I arrived in NZ I have been pursuing my Master's in Engineering while maintaining a full-time job. One of the most notable cultural shifts was the difference in communication style. I found that people here tended to be more direct and informal, which was quite different from the more reserved and formal interactions I was accustomed to. Additionally, social norms around collaboration and group work were different. Teamwork was emphasized and I had to adapt to expressing my ideas more openly in discussions. There were challenges the transition has been enriching and I am fully satisfied with the experiences.

The university is great with friendly people.
Tips: The cultural shift was huge to me, but people were very friendly everywhere I went. I never applied for any kind of scholarship, but I'm sure there is a scholarship opportunity for 1st years. I'm immensely satisfied with my course, university, and the country. I made so many friends, the teaching team is really great, and the country is beautiful and the people are too.
Likes (Student Life): I get to pick my class timings, and all my classes are flexible, so that's the best thing about university life for me. I usually go to university when I have classes, which are usually around 16 hours every week. There are various clubs all around campus, and you can join them whenever you'd like. There are RUOK advisors who check up on students around campus and support them. There are ECMS, sports, math, Compsci, and quite a lot of other clubs. These clubs and events around campus gave me an opportunity to connect with people and make new friends at every event.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are different kinds of restaurants around, and most of the places serve various cuisines, so there are heaps of options. Also, some places offer student discounts or have special combos for students. It's usually about 15 - 25 Dollars for a person. I prefer cooking meals at home, but there are some really good options if I want to eat out.

A modern university with diversity, scholarship and post-graduation opportunities.
Tips: The University provides with good exposure and opportunities to mingle with students from different places. I had applied for a scholarship before my arrival unfortunately, I couldn't get it. Many of the recent batch (February intake) students received scholarships for accommodation close to the campus. The University, course and country are good. The 3 year stay back option is really helpful for the students.
Likes (Safety): There are access cars for students to access the university facilities during weekends. There are study rooms that are pre-booked and are accessible during weekends too. People here are generally friendly however, there are reports of increasing crime activities from different parts of the city.
Dislikes (Student Life): Students pursuing PG courses do not spend much time at the University apart from attending lectures or preparing assignments. I had lectures for 2 hours every weekday in the first semester. The final semester comprises just a project with only once a week appointments with the project supervisors. A lot of events are organised by different clubs such as Students Associations, Employability Clubs etc. There are also events related to festivals such as Diwali, Onam etc.

Good college with multi cultural diversity and part time opportunities.
Tips: Students should know that adjusting to the time zone can be difficult for a week. I availed 2 scholarships one academic and one for accommodation. I am fully satisfied with the University course and the beauty of NZ. However, the rent is expensive in the city but cheaper on the outskirts and have a good variety of cuisines and a good climate throughout the year.
Likes (Post study jobs): AUT has good networking and connections to the industry, no idea about Sponsor Visas for work but what I have seen is most of the companies require a permanent visa or at least citizenship to be considered to work there, there are multiple roles offered and good salary packages at least for the technology domain.
Dislikes (Part time work): Getting part time work is difficult compared to getting actual work. Managing part time with studies is easy since we are only allowed to work 20 hours max in a week unless it's a semester break where you can work 40, and the average payout is anywhere from 23-30 dollars per hour.

A good place to kick start your international education.
Tips: NZ is a wonderful place in general. So adjusting was not a problem. Finding accommodation is tedious so I suggest international students to opt for university accommodation for the first semester. There are good scholarships on the AUT website. It keeps getting updated regularly.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): For Masters the post study work visa options are attractive. Post that getting residence is also simpler compared to countries like US or UK. They also offer good visitor visa options for dependents. The student's spouse also gets a work visa till the time the student is studying.
Dislikes (Value for money): ROI is comparatively less for the course. The salary for jobs after the course is in the average range, especially for international students. It is however good if anyone plans to take up a Ph.D. after Master since AUT has good research programmes. A few courses are interesting as well.

The college was great, but the people you meet and the journey you follow will make huge difference.
Tips: Intention plays a prominent role in selecting the course and college. Selecting any university does not have much impact on education, but it certainly has an impact on the circle you surround yourself with, which will shape the future of each individual. Getting into the right groups will be hugely beneficial and vice versa. It is challenging to get scholarships, but you can try on the official college website.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): If the steps are taken correctly and you secure a job in big4 then permanent immigration is a piece of cake. It takes only 1 master's degree and 1 year of NZ experience to get permanent immigration. Getting a job would be easier by reaching out to the consultant companies and it is important you never pay a penny for the consultant to get a job. If they ask for money, please ignore and avoid those people.
Dislikes (Internships): Coming from India with no experience in any job makes it harder to navigate any internships. Chances of exploitation by the fellow indians. There are some paid internship programs where you pay for the experience. The best way would be to go to companies you are interested in and ask the managers for the opportunities.

Try to socialize and build connections.
Tips: There are scholarships available for AUT students. When you apply to the University shortly, they will send you a scholarship link in a few days. You can apply for it. Also you can get a scholarship for student accommodation, i.e Uni lodge. This country and the University are very nice. New country will initially make you homesick, but you will get used to it and in the end start loving it. Quiet and beautiful place to live in. I am 100 % satisfied with uni, course and country. Finding a part time job here is hard and you'll have a long struggle to get the main job after your studies as well. But you will get it done. There is a struggle, but the reward is very fruitful.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is top class. Very knowledgeable and will help you a lot in your studies. Most of them will solve your doubt. Many Indian, Kiwi, British and African origin faculties, very diverse. You can email them your doubts and freely ask them. Only one faculty member is not very approachable as he's strict and doesn't welcome your point of view. Will chose debate rather than making you understand. His teaching is good but he's not open to feedback. The rest of the faculty are really good. There are both online classes and offline classes held at the university. Slides are provided on your Canvas app. Assignments are easy and a few subjects will actually help you learn some software.
Dislikes (Internships): From my point of view, I think you will only grab an internship if you have a proper connection with the people in the industry. Through reference and through hard work. Uni doesn't actually help you get one, your hard work does. You have to visit meetups and meet people who are already working in the industry and put yourself in front of them as a professional and communicate with them. You will surely crack an internship.

A fruitless expensive adventure.
Tips: Given the current conditions the move isn't worth it. Better to invest the money elsewhere. Part time job hunting isn't supported and neither is full time job hunting after the course. I would have much rather preferred to have invested the money in the market or opened up a business with it which would've yielded better results.
Dislikes (Student Life): Covid hit as soon as my student life began. Although the university held online classes, there weren't many opportunities to interact with and build relationships with our professors. No activities or guidance were provided to students during this crisis.

A supportive and green student city with strong academics.
Tips: The course is quite academic and research focused. There are several merit based scholarships. Students should check the university website to see which ones they are eligible for. The university experience was good and the course was informative. The country is great, although the job market is quite challenging.
Likes (Safety): Sheffield is safe for students. There are student support teams and local police partnerships that help ensure a secure environment for students living and studying in the city.
Dislikes (Internships): I rated internships 1 because finding an internship after master's program was very difficult. Guidance was very generic and there was no real support with applications. The university also had limited direct links with industry, so students mostly had to find internships on their own.

An experience that contributed to my self-growth.
Tips: The UK is currently going through major changes concerning International Studies. The course I studied at University of Sheffield was terrific, and with it came job opportunities but due to the increase in the rate for Sponsored Visas various companies tend not to hire international students. I wouldn't blame the university for it but it's just a tough job market to penetrate. At the same time everyone experiences vary different.
Likes (Public transportation): The city is well connected through Trams. A tram pass costs 49 pounds a month if you are a student and 50 pounds a month for the general population. Once the tram pass has been purchase the whole city is accessible. And, in addition to this, the city is walkable and everything is not more than 30 minutes away by walking. Lastly cabs are easily booked and there's a district nearby to visit for which buses function at all times from the bus station.

Self study is appreciated.
Tips: If you really want to develop your skills you can join here or whichever university you choose. Here in the UK you have to study by yourself (self-study), it will not be like an Indian teaching system (like a spoon-fed system), though you can reach out to staff if you have any queries in classes, through mail and personally in their office, they will help you with how you can work with it. It is a good university but the fees are too expensive so think twice before coming here.
Likes (Safety): In Sheffield, it's safe compared to other places like London, the people are so kind; apart from campus security even the student accommodation has a secure gate so only specific people are allowed inside. Still now I haven't faced any bad experiences but I heard some; it's not a major issue.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Due to the new rule changes, it's hard to get settled here. You don't get an easy settlement, have to run for the job with a specific salary limit and have to get a sponsorship job so that you can continue to stay here in the UK. If I get a chance to permanent immigrate here to this country I would like to stay here but I will miss our Indian food more.

Fab, excellent and joyful.
Tips: Given the visa regulations changes by UKVI at present, someone should only join this university if they are willing to spend a hefty amount from their savings during the academic year, because they will have to dedicate their entire time to academics. You will not get any time for part time work. The university will not shy away from failing you in subjects if you are not up to the mark.
Likes (Indian Food): The city has every type of Middle Eastern, European, Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asian origin restaurant and stores. You will get the best fresh fruits and vegetables in the Tesco grocery store. The city’s 20% of its population are students. We have the Peak District National Park to explore nature.
Dislikes (Internships): Very less people have found internships here in my circle. The visa regulations have affected recruiters to restrict themselves from hiring immigrants, as they have to provide sponsorship to move forward. This has been a major issue faced by students in the UK.

40 hrs/week exposure for upskilling & independently working in research lab for a year.
Tips: They should understand the course structure which may or may not align with their interest. Understand they are going for upskilling, networking and exposure rather than jobs or internships. Scholarships can be seen on the university site. The course was good, however if it is possible don't go as a fresher to study, gain some work experience in the field.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Graduate visa post study visa is easy and it's all about your affordability and vision to stay in or not. It is a very simple process to apply for the visa. Immigration rules have changed post 2025 yet it's easy to get a permanent stay. It was ideally 5 years, however it can now shift to 10 years, depending on the British Government.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The job market is pretty messed up and placement cells or companies around the course don't usually visit the career fair so plan accordingly. Research Job roles are less in this university. Depending on the work experience, the packages are different. Salary expected as a fresher - 28,000 pounds per annum at least.

MSc Management - Batch of 2025
Offered by The University of Sheffield

A place of growth and opportunity.
Tips: Students should be prepared for a fast paced academic transition with a major emphasis on independent learning and open discussions. Time management and active participation really matter. I did avail an initial 2000 scholarship by applying early.
Likes (Part time work): Part time is very common among the students here. There are pretty good on-campus as well as off-campus opportunities if you want some extra money. You are allowed to work 20hours a week which is easily managable but hugely depends on the course curriculum. Average payout is 12-15 pounds.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent settlement in this country usually depends on the sponsored work visa and the chance of getting it is moderate to high, usually depending on skilled based opportunities. Given the chance I would permanent immigrate but only if that aligns with my career goals.

Warm and welcoming campus.
Tips: I didn't experience a big cultural shock. This experience varies from person to person. I am someone who has lived away from home in India & thus household chores are not a problem for me. For students who are leaving their home for the first time they will find managing cooking, cleaning, shopping, studying, basically doing everything on their own difficult. Treat this as a challenge & in a few months you will get used to it. I got a Merit scholarship which many Indian students get. It was a 2000 education on the tuition fees. There is a University scholarship which gives a 25% discount on tuition fees but it's very competitive. There are many external organisations that provide scholarships; you will have to check them out. I am very satisfied with my experience at the University of Sheffield. I met people from all over the world. The teaching method in the UK universities is very different from India. My course was mostly coursework. You have to do your own research & do your assignments. A few modules do have exams. It is challenging but a great learning experience. Sheffield is part of the reputed Russel group of universities so a degree from here is globally respected. The UK has a massive South Asian community so you will feel at home. Indian food is extremely popular. Thus UK is a great country to live in as an Indian.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is amazing at University of Sheffield. The Student Union has been voted the best in the UK for many years now. I used to spend my day attending lectures, grabbing food at the various places on campus & hanging out with my friends. There are various events going on all year round. There are dozens of clubs from football, cricket to music, art. There is an Indian society as well.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I gave 3 because the UK Government has introduced very strict immigration rules. It is difficult to get a job as an International student. I would like to settle in the UK. However, its becoming very difficult & I don't know if I will be able to.

Understand the latest immigration policy before you come here.
Tips: Do research on and apply for every available scholarship. The University of Sheffield is on a visa-sponsored, not a tourist visa. Understand the latest immigration policy before you get there. You must know the reason you are at this university. Do a lot of research on what makes you tick. If you are looking to make money for your family while you are here, don't take courses that require you to get a SC for jobs.

Limited support for freshers.
Tips: There was more of a lifestyle shift than a cultural shift for me as I moved to the UK as soon as I finished my undergrad. I started working part-time jobs to pay the bills. Due to the variety of restaurants and tiffin services available, British Indian food can be a bit bland. I prefer cooking, but there are also great local restaurants for students to explore. There is an area in Sheffield called London Road, which is known for its variety of food joints. I am satisfied with the university experience but not the course fully.
Dislikes (Internships): Due to limited guidance in finding or applying for relevant opportunities. Additionally, the internships are not directly provided by the university, and I received few responses from the companies I applied to. In my experience, the internships that I applied for were not directly relevant to the course of study.

Academically, university is excellent but personally it’s going to be extreme lonely
Tips: Anticipate well towards huge culture shocks and it's going to be very lonely so join societies. Try building a lot of connections and attending lectures. Finding part time is extremely difficult in the first year but you need to keep applying. Everything is going to be expensive.

Best life experience which I always wanted to have. I made good networks.
Tips: Before joining any college in the UK every student needs to know that you have to compromise with your comfort of life and work hard. Rather than going there and crying make sure you are ready for it. You have to learn time management. Manage your currency. Have a part-time job which is stable. Work on your assignments. Make your network strong.
Likes (Student Life): Considering Sheffield as a university town you will not have a campus, the whole city is your campus. You get to meet new people and there are many events organised, job fair etc. I was a part of the Indian society there. We had events organised by them.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There were few Indian-origin restaurants but mainly provided food as per UK taste. There is a restaurant named Maveli which provides good Kerala-type food. Cooking food at home would be preferable as having Indian food outside would be expensive. Best is to cook your own food as per your taste.

Academically, the university offers a good platform.
Tips: Students should be aware that while the University of Sheffield offers strong academic resources and a supportive environment, some practical aspects like course structure, lab access or career support might not always meet expectations. It’s important to actively seek out opportunities, engage with professors, and use available resources like the library and career services. Planning ahead and being proactive makes a big difference. I received a partial scholarship, it was reduced in my tuition fee. I’m satisfied. Academically, the university offers a good platform, and the UK has provided a rich learning and cultural experience. However, there are areas especially practical course components and job market support for international students that I feel could be improved.
Likes (Indian Food): Sheffield has a decent number of Indian and South Asian resting and grocery stores, which made it easier to find familiar food. From ready made meals to fresh spices and ingredients, most things are available if you know where to look. There are several Indian restaurants like Maveli and Butlers Balti House. They offer both dine in and takeaway options, with prices ranging from £10 to £20 per person depending on what you order. I prefer cooking at home most of the time, both for health reasons and to save money.
Dislikes (Value for money): I didn’t feel like my master's was worth whatever I paid. The way teaching was done or our assignments were structured I learnt a lot along the way, but still, it wasn’t worth that much. There was only one industrial visit, and I had hoped for a more hands-on experience.
