Lovely and fulfilling experience.
Tips: The weather has been the biggest change for me here and there is a lot of stuff that you will have to buy locally rather than from back home such as jackets, shoes, adapters, Instant Pot and more. Sometimes you can get discounted stuff at garage sales or from seniors who are moving out and wish to get rid of their stuff such as kitchenware or furniture. Academically, the university is pretty good and offers many courses and chances to experiment.

Strong academics and a vast college.
Tips: My programme at Boston University is quite vigorous and heavy and some of the assignments have given me sleepless nights. Professors here really emphasise research and clarity and a lot of your projects will also require the same energy. Tips: The transition from life back home and here is quite prevalent. But I had an easy time adapting as the city is very student-friendly and welcoming, and the university takes measures to help you out with administrative stuff once you arrive. No part-time jobs off campus, and for on-campus opportunities, there are limited spots. Public transport is free, and my experience has been quite great so far.

Tips: The classes are intense and big on projects so if you are someone who likes that sort of setting you'll be set. Some people have a hard time adjusting her but there's support available especially mentally so don't be hesitant if you ever feel the need. Tips: I have seen changes in my mentality, in my problem-solving abilities and in the way I perceive things, which I can credit to the time I have spent here so far. It is a very student-friendly and accommodating city, and the campus is beyond extensive. Good classmates, and even though finding a job here is among the most difficult tasks yet, there have been situations where the hardworking has paid off. Rent is expensive, so you can cut costs by using public transport or cooking for yourself. The optional reading is actually compulsory, and showing energy in class is really appreciated.

Tips: The best thing about Boston is how student-friendly the city is and how accommodating it is to diversity. There are a number of prominent universities in and around the city, and there’s a tram service throughout the city that’s practically free for students. I do wish the course loads were less intense at times, though. There have been weeks when I barely had time to do anything aside from my academics.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Honestly, if you require a sponsorship to work in the United States, you will not be able to secure a role here very easily. This has been the case for almost all students throughout the country, to the point that some colleges are simply not taking in any more international students.

Tips: Before joining BU, know that it's a large, vibrant urban campus with strong academics and lots of opportunities, but also a fast-paced environment where you need to be proactive. Transitioning involved getting used to the city, the academic rigour, and a more independent lifestyle; the cultural shift wasn't drastic, but adjusting to different social norms and a diverse student body took some time. I did receive a merit-based scholarship through my application, which significantly helped with tuition costs, though the exact amount varies. Overall, I'm very satisfied with BU's academics, the diverse courses offered, and studying in Boston, a city with so much history and student life.
Likes (Safety): BU and the surrounding areas generally feel quite safe, especially with the presence of campus police and well-lit areas. However like any city you need to be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. BU offers the Scarlet SafeWalk programme for escorts at night, emergency blue light call boxes across campus and a comprehensive BU Alert system for timely notifications. There are also security personnel in dorms and educational programs on safety awareness.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent immigration is something some international students consider but it's not the primary focus for most during their studies. It depends a lot on individual career paths and opportunities after graduation. Permanent settlement isn't my primary focus right now as a student. My chances would depend on future job prospects and visa options after graduation which are uncertain. While the US has its attractions, permanent immigration is a significant decision that involves long-term goals and family, so it's not a definite "yes" at this stage.

Likes (Indian Food): In this college town, there are tons of Indian restaurants and grocery stores, so food isn’t an issue. I think you should cook for yourself to cut back on expenses, as it might get pricey to support yourself here. There are a lot of different options available, and I think the quality is quite good.

I would love to settle here if I ever got the opportunity. Initially, I'd planned on coming here to work for a few years, but the setting's become very unpredictable, and my chances of doing so are a lot lower. Excellent academics with good career opportunities
Tips: NC State offers a good balance of academics and career opportunities, but managing coursework and time is important. Raleigh is a safe and student-friendly city with a reasonable cost of living compared to many other cities. I did not receive a scholarship, but overall I'm satisfied with the university, the course, and the learning environment.
Likes (Quality of faculty): I rated the faculty 5 because the professors at NC State are highly knowledgeable and research-oriented. The curriculum focuses on both theoretical understanding and practical applications through projects, labs, and industry collaborations. Faculty members are approachable during office hours.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I gave it a 3 mostly because moving to the US permanently wasn't really my main goal when I picked NC State. I came to Raleigh for the solid academics and the job opportunities, pure and simple. The uni is great for lining up internships and getting your foot in the door with post-study work, but staying long-term is a whole different ball game that completely depends on tricky visa rules and where you want your career to go.

A very welcoming and homely place where you can learn a lot.
Tips: Received a 10% scholarship and a 500 professional development fund to attend conferences and get certificates. Definitely very satisfied with all the learning outcomes. There's also an Indian association that takes care of all Indian students' needs.
Likes (Value for money): The courses are very good. The living expenses of the city of Raleigh are also quite low in comparison to other cities, making it easy to manage expenses while working part time on campus. The tuition is manageable as well and they also waive tuition if you get a TA or RA position.
Dislikes (Internships): There are internships but just the market in general isn't the best right now and for the career fair, only a few companies accept F1 students. Some students who have work experience have got very good internships all around the US and they provide good career guidance services so eventually everyone will definitely get a job.

My transition was smooth, I had even got my finances sorted and even secured a part-time job before arriving in the States. Most international students work part-time jobs here. The university offers scholarships and funding to various departments.
Likes (Public transportation): The university has its own public transportation which is well-connected to all campuses and the housing location that students prefer on or off-campus. The frequency is amazing year around. The public transportation is completely free and very convenient.
Dislikes (Value for money): The fee structure is very manageable compared to most of the Universities. And the university being a public university, has various facilities and resources for international students. The departments have funding and scholarships, even if you want to do a the university funds you for it.

Tips: One of the best courses with a strong curriculum and excellent career support. The Financial Mathematics programme at NC State offers a well-structured and rigorous curriculum. The career services are outstanding and very supportive with good industry exposure and guidance. Tuition is reasonable compared to similar programs and there are multiple scholarship opportunities available. Additionally, there are plenty of on-campus part-time jobs available for students. A great value-for-money programme.
Likes (Value for money): It is one of the best courses with a strong curriculum, excellent career services and reasonable tuition. Being rigorous academically and having excellent career guidance along with great industry exposure with hands-on projects makes this a great value-for-money programme.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Mostly American food options are available at a reasonable price. Indian grocery and food options are not very accessible. I prefer cooking for myself which reduces living expenses by a considerable amount. There is a Feed the Pack free grocery service which you can avail for basic groceries.

Tips: Cultural shock might initially be challenging but the large Indian student population at NC State makes it easy to make friends, which can help ease homesickness. Securing Resident Assistant (RA) or Teaching Assistant (TA) positions is quite competitive so plan accordingly. Finding part-time work is relatively easy; dining jobs offer $10 per hour with a maximum of 20 hours per week, which can cover living expenses if you share a room and budget carefully. Over time you may be able to move into a higher grade or departmental position which is less demanding and offers better pay. Scholarships for Indian nationals are scarce. The university is excellent with a good faculty, well structured coursework and strong research opportunities. Be prepared to dedicate yourself to your studies. Tips: I was very apprehensive and I joined campus after the orientation. Despite this, I would say that NCSU has become a second home. Tips: After spending a decent amount of time here, I can see that NCSU has made a significant amount of progress in promoting diversity and inclusion which is seen through the multicultural celebrations around campus and representation in the student body as well.
