MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2022
3.1
Academic centric
Focussed on its reputation and network of industries.
Tips: They must know that this college is in a suburban area. Though its QS ranking is very high, they will have limited options for a good-quality student life because the city is not Manchester or Liverpool. Though it has a small network of people, reaching out to them is easier compared to Russell Group universities. It has a good consortium with industries and companies, so getting to work with them would be possible with good recommendations.
Likes (Part time work): The availability of part-time jobs is high because of nearby accessible cities. Also, students can easily work, but remember it doesn't have to be a technical role. I would still suggest looking for Russell Group universities because of better technical role part time jobs.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): I believe the engagement with faculty could be better, especially for technical paper publications. I found that unless it's an industry-sponsored project, faculty would not go out of their comfort zone for students' development. Lab-based work by technical faculty is the most supportive.

Cranfield university: insights from an UK based student
Tips: As I am already based in the UK, I transitioned quite smoothly with regard to culture. I obtained a merit scholarship due to my high undergraduate grade, and that was a £2000 deduction from my overall course fees. Overall, very satisfied with the university and the course.
Likes (Student Life): Although the college is in a rural area, everything on campus feels relatively close together, so you will likely build familiarity with a lot of people, and that enhances your student life as you feel you are part of a tight knit community. There are student societies for different interests and cultures, e.g., Indian society, etc.
Dislikes (Part time work): There is not a huge array of shops on campus, so part-time work opportunities on campus are limited. Most part-time job opportunities are found in the neighbouring cities of Bedford and Milton Keynes, which are both a 10-15 minute drive away from the main campus.

Cranfield: Silently producing achievers
Tips: This is a postgrad only university, and not very happening like other unis. If you want a peaceful life and are only into studying, then you will really enjoy the time. You will be surrounded only by like-minded, mature people. There were no exams in my course, and everything was hands-on and research-oriented. One thing to keep in mind more recently is that Cranfield will be becoming part of King's College London if the merger is successful by August 2027.
Likes (Safety): There is nothing going on on the campus. It is almost always vacant and empty. Heard of foxes are more dangerous than humans there. Adequate security is provided in the library and accommodation, too. So you can have long walks on campus without worrying too much.
Dislikes (Part time work): Cranfield is located in the middle of nowhere. There are no shops or bars to do part-time jobs. Very few people who live in Milton Keynes or Bedford can get a job, but those cities are far from campus. So, you have to prioritise campus convenience or part-time work.

UK EDUCATION IN 2026, A JOURNEY TOWARDS DEBT BUILDING
Tips: If you are coming with the dream of having a job straight out of campus after your Master's, well, it's not like that. Definitely, Cranfield is excellent with all the practical as well as theoretical exposure and industry exposure, which is good if you don't have an education loan and are not looking for a job in the UK.
Likes (Safety): Cranfield has its own security team, which is professionally equipped and well-trained to deal with any situation. 24*7 patrolling of the campus is done by Cranfield security to ensure safety on the campus. Also, the campus itself is in an isolated location, with only students present, so there isn't any safety concern as such.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Since there is a variation in the visa policies every year, looking out for a job has been quite tough for international students. Upon interacting with the recruitment division of the largest aerospace firm in the UK, it became evident to me that "We take only the British CVs. Rest all get rejected on the spot." The above statement speaks volumes about the situation in hand regarding job opportunities. Even if somehow you succeed in grabbing a job, you will do the job on a contractual basis. PEOPLE TALK WITH A LOT OF PRIDE ABOUT THIS ASPECT, BUT THE REALITY BEHIND THIS IS SOMETHING ELSE. AFTER ONE OR TWO YEARS, YOU HAVE TO LEAVE FOR YOUR COUNTRY.

A high ranking university but a low ranking country
Tips: Scholarships are merit based, but you can always try and reach out to them if you need an additional financial support from them and they might consider it. In terms of cultural shock I think it was the general shift in culture from India to the UK but I think it wasn't too difficult because there were a lot of other Indians on campus so it was much easier and quite exciting. Another shock was college placements. Unlike in India companies do not come to the university to high students, instead the students applied to the companies individual. The course is highly ranked in the UK and the modules were quite intense but doable. The country is good but in terms of job is facing a little difficult now and is quite competitive.
Likes (Safety): Even though it is quite far off from the city I did not face any problems in terms of safety and the security team is always grounds late in the night as well. Security is always available on call. We do have a well-being centre on campus so it's not just about physical safety but also mental safety that they look after Milton Keynes is the closest city but it takes one hour by bus to travel and there have been a few cases where you have to be careful. I luckily have not had any bad experiences in the city except the untimely of buses.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The government of the UK has been bringing in new and strict changes in the visa, sponsorship, and ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) rules that make it more difficult for international students to stay abroad/settle down in the UK. Permanently immigrating to this country is an individual decision; however, I have decided to not settle down here, but that is up to one's own perspective and what they wish to do career-wise. If I did want to get a permanent settlement in this country, I would have to get an ILR, which takes from 5 to 10 years of living in this country, after which you would be given an ILR.

t's a technical university that's located in a quiet, isolated place surrounded by nice people.
Tips: Sometimes it may be frustrating with the transportation, but usually it's not an issue. People are mostly friendly and the place is nice and quiet considering it's in an isolated place. Milton Keynes is not far, so it's all good. Good, recommended for a technical university.
Likes (Safety): Cranfield University is a safe place because the university has an airport within its borders. Cars are not allowed to enter the university unless they go through the airport security checkpoint. Also, university housing is safe.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Transportation services at this university are not very good. There are no trains on campus; only buses and Uber are available. This can pose a problem when buses are cancelled or postponed. If we have something important to do, we often have to take an Uber.

Tips: I'm really happy with the support and help I've received from the faculty. There are lots of activities happening on campus so make sure to take advantage of them. But before you come make sure you're prepared for the weather conditions and potential cold wind by bringing all the necessary stationery and essential medications. Greatest experience of my life.
Tips: Students should know that the faculty is friendly and approachable so feel free to reach out to them. There are a few clubs and activities held on campus and I suggest joining one of the clubs. I am very satisfied with my university. I did receive a Bursary which wasn't very helpful but did give me a confidence boost. It has been a great learning experience, and I will cherish every moment I spend here. I recommend that everyone experience the struggle for once.

Great university to study aviation and explore your potential.
Tips: The course is diverse with people from different countries. The course is well structured and the faculty are approachable and knowledgeable about the industry. All the assignments push you and make you learn about the industry and get you ready to land a full-time job in the industry. The group work gives you a chance to apply everything you learn. Scholarships are very limited for Indian students and therefore we have to pay the whole fee mostly. However, it is worth the investment. The academic experience along with the friends I have made along the way has immensely contributed to my personal growth and I look forward to becoming a part of the industry soon. In my opinion, Cranfield is one of the best places to do a course related to aviation. With its industrial connections and state-of-the-art facilities, you will surely get the best education across the globe. I am just happy that I chose to come to Cranfield instead of other choices. Make sure you make international friends, and also connect well with industrial experts you meet during the course as it will help you get a job. Be careful with your expenses and spend wisely as the UK can be a bit expensive. Be independent and ready to step out of your comfort zone. Be ready to travel by bus frequently as Cranfield is a bit away from the main city nearby and plan your shopping trips wisely to save time.
Likes (Student Life): The college is a very happening place with regular career fairs, events and course classes. All the classes are engaging and assignments are challenging. You get to be involved in a lot of group work throughout your course which helps you get international exposure. Also, Cranfield has the CSA where there are parties every Friday. Though it is small, it has a bar, lounge, a small restaurant and an arcade and billiards area inside. During stressful times, it's the place to let loose and have a good time with friends. Also, there are a lot of clubs like for example cricket and badminton clubs with a lot of Science clubs and ethnic clubs as well. On the whole, the campus is the best place to spend time and make good memories. However, Cranfield as a whole is a bit silent and isolated but with the right company, you can have a great educational and fun time.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part-time opportunities are available around the area in Cranfield, Cranfield Village and Milton Keynes. However, the chances of getting one are challenging and have to put in a lot of applications so it is good to take a part-time as soon as you come however, the technical courses are time-consuming and it's best to focus on the course. It would take extreme time management to shuffle between both and it might be stressful. Most part times pay the national wages.

Future Food Sustainability MSc - Batch of 2023

It was wonderful, enriching experience at Cranfield.
Tips: Cultural shift was calling professors by their names without any prefix or suffix. I received a bursary along with my offer letter. I got around 3500 GBP as a bursary. I am very satisfied with my course and I would strongly recommend the course and the university. Anyone passionate about food, agriculture or sustainability can take this course.
Likes (Indian Food): On campus there are places to eat offering multi cuisine (6-7gbp).
A lot of takeaway options are available and delivery which are on the pricier side. There are takeaway vans inside campus offering decent and affordable food. There is a local market in the city centre where all types of food at very minimal prices are available. Mostly I used to cook, occasionally eating out or taking delivery.
Dislikes (Internships): There is career centre which keeps updating about jobs and opportunities available. They help in correcting and improving CV and resume, and preparing for interviews. There are internships relevant to my course. However, the schedule is so tight it's difficult to do an internship along with the course work and part time job.

Advanced Mechanical Engineering PGCert - Batch of 2024
2.9
Academically oriented, multi-cultural and research focused university.
Tips: The transition is not that difficult. This is a multi-cultural community. The scholarships are a bit of a tough ask and the prospective students should search for options other than university to secure a scholarship. Overall, the university is good.
Likes (Public transportation): The buses and cab service is good. The campus is located in between Bedford, the old city and Milton Keynes, a new and hustling city centre connected by buses that usually ply hourly via the campus bus stop. In addition, the national coachway is just a few kilometres away from where the buses depart for every major city and airport in UK.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The immigration rules are getting tougher and the companies seem to be hesitant to offer sponsorship. Moreover, there seems to be a sort of saturation in the market. There are career fairs organised by the careers team and also frequent Webinars with industry people, though it is not a straightforward hiring process. It is just an interaction with the people from the industry.

Okayish University, Not that great but better than many.
Tips: For people who are adventurers, this university is not your cup of tea. You will meet a lot of people initially but due to course, all will be busy with their job applications, thesis, and projects. For my course M.Sc. in Advanced Mechanical Engineering I am utterly dissatisfied as my projects are entirely based on only literature review and no lab even after paying 22 lakhs only for tuition fee. This university is a good place only for some courses and the QS university rankings for this course are not even related to what's being taught here. I still don't know how was this university ranked 27 in the world for Mechanical Engineering subject wise. Honestly speaking if anyone wants to come to the UK in this year and next year, please rethink it, as the fee has tremendously increased and I personally felt it is not worth paying that much for this university or any other university apart from some top university in the world.

Join this university only you're financially stable and if you can give your 100% in academics.
Tips: The only mistake I made and you all should be aware of before coming to UK is book your accommodation as early as possible and always ask the land lord to provide wriiten documents for the same. Apart from this, it was quite easy for me to adapt with everything. Keep in mind that you should avoid bringing lot many winter cloths as they won't be of much use. You can easily purchase waterproof winter jackets and boosts from TESCO, not to expensive.
Likes (Safety): If you're planning to stay in-campus then you can be positive about campus security as university is few smiles away from the main town and is covered with CCTV cameras all around. Also, computing is easy and safe because city buses are available in every 10 minutes. You can always purchase e-tickets.
Dislikes (Part time work): It is very difficult to do any kind of part time job as the schedule of university is very hectic. Even in your free time you will get alot assignments and presentations to work on. Also, in my case things were very different as it was pandemic situation and most of the classes were shifted from classroom to zoom link.

College is reputable but it is situated outside the city, so student life is not that happening.
Tips: Fees is high and getting part time is not easy. As soon you reach here search for part time even in Milton keynes preferably. For M.Sc. in finance and management course, internship will be provided to top 10 students but that will not be a paid internship. Also, top 10 students will get scholarship for CFA Exam. Basically in term 1, focus on getting higher rank. Networking is the key to land a job. Don't come here thinking that it is a high rank college so you will get a job.
Likes (Safety): Campus is safe. I have seen people coming from part time late at night. The last bus service is around 11 pm. Girls roam around the campus even at 2 AM. There are many students that say they feel comfortable on campus. Milton Keynes is also safe. Bedford is not safe at night. So avoid roaming in Bedford.
Dislikes (Value for money): Tuition fee is high. Last year it was 25000 pounds approximately but for the year 2022-2023, they have increased to 32000 pounds. With current market situation and recession going on in United Kingdom, it is not easy to get full time job. Also, prices of on-campus accommodation are relatively high as compared to other universities.

Cranfield is a prestigious institution
Tips: It is a great University. Academically oriented. It is located in a village. So public transport and connectivity are not very reliable. Part time opportunities are available within the 10-mile radius. It's ideal to have a car or cycle to reliably commute to work. The academics are very intense and serious. Institution is very respected. The course will require your full attention. There are sports and cultural activities. The student crowd is very international. Try to book campus stay early as the budget options fill out early. The rent will vary from 420 to 850 per month. Outside rent is similar. There is a cost of living hike in UK now. To conclude, Cranfield is a postgraduate only study focused university. Scholarships are available but you should enquire with the department. It's a prestigious institution located in a green landscape.
Likes (Safety): It is an isolated place away from city or any other crowd. Most crowds are mature students. The paths are well-lighted. Fire alarms and regular maintenance services also help. Bus services that are there from morning 5.30 to 11 30 pm are also helpful
.
Dislikes (Public transportation): There are UNO buses to connect the village with city of MK and Bedford. But they are very unreliable as services are cancelled very frequently. It affects part time jobs. Even cab services like Bolt and Uber are rare to find. Available skyline services are very expensive. Having their own vehicle is highly recommended.

It is more concentrated about Research and development study, rather than general academics.
Tips: Students must have some technical knowledge about basic software and know about their course and modules before starting of the course. I received a scholarship and it was part of the tuition fee. I am satisfied with my overall journey here as I got what I expected before joining the university.
Likes (Internships): It has very good industrial connections and much reputed in terms of research and development. Search for internships should be done by yourself, and faculty can help in this as they have good connections. But there will be some available individual research project options, which you can select them on your interest.
Dislikes (Part time work): The university is located in a village, so it is bit hard to get part time work. There will be some availability in near towns. Managing part time is very difficult as we have classes for five days of the week and since it is a 12 months course, it is very tightly packed.

Cranfield University focuses on academics
Tips: It's in a remote village and transportation is a bit difficult. The Uni focuses on academics a lot and is a good place to be if your first priority is academics. The Uni has tied up with many companies and you can get group projects sponsored by companies. People from a lot of countries and cultures can be found here. The taught modules for SATM will be completed in 4 months and 1 module will be completed in 1 week. Please don't think they will spoon feed you. You will have to do your own research. Messy, unorganized and understaffed.
Tips: This is especially targeted towards those coming to the University of Birmingham Dubai. For PG courses, there are several communication issues. The university is understaffed, and especially in biological sciences, there are no career prospects. I wouldn't recommend anyone choosing the University of Birmingham Dubai campus.
Likes (Safety): UAE is one of the safest countries in the world. Even with regional issues, the safety is unmatched. Even at 2 or 3 am you can be outside without any issues. You can go anywhere by cab, and services are up 24/7. Being here for 20+ years, I have literally not faced any issues.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Not many options for conversion since early career opportunities are poor. UAE is very lucrative for senior career individuals who are here to sell a product. Pure R&D bench Science is literally accessible to early-career professionals unless they have the right contacts or are insanely skilled.

Enriching Journey at University of Birmingham
Tips: Students should be prepared for a significant amount of independent learning and time management. As an international student, it is important to participate in discussions and read academic literature. I would also recommend budgeting carefully since living expenses in the UK are considerably higher than what we expect. There was also a cultural shift in terms of independence, communication, and everyday life. Yes, I did avail myself of a scholarship during my study time there. I applied for financial aid on the university website and received it on the basis of merit. Students interested in funding should explore the university's website for funding options and scholarships. Overall I am satisfied with my experience at the UOB and living in the UK. The course provided me strong academic exposure and broader understanding of clinical and neuro practices.
Likes (Internships): I gave internships a high rating because the Careers Network at Birmingham is genuinely active and helpful. Through platforms like Handshake, you get direct access to loads of internships, summer placements, and work experience roles tailored to your degree. The uni even offers Work Experience Bursaries if you land an unpaid or low-paying internship, which makes gaining practical experience way more accessible. While specific opportunities depend on your department, the career support and industry ties across the UK are top-tier.
Dislikes (Safety): I rated 4/5 because overall I felt safe and comfortable both on campus and while living in Birmingham. The university provides several safety measures beyond the campus security. The university also provides guidance and support for students dealing with emergencies, harassment, or well-being concerns. My experience of living in Birmingham is generally positive. I found the city student-friendly with a large international student community. I appreciate being able to travel around the city using public transport. The campus itself also felt well connected to the city, which made exploring Birmingham relatively easy.

Good yet surreal feeling!
Tips: Coming from India, it is definitely a cultural shock and not very satisfying. Nonetheless, it is good to have exposure and learning to be independent.
Students should research well about how to finance their studies and living expenses, where they will live and how will they travel, connect with some alumni to gain knowledge before coming but most importantly, decide whether is it really you want to come to the UK and study, whether it really aligns with your goals.
Likes (Public transportation): I lived in the city centre and I liked how convenient the buses and trains are. It is safe and good for students. I was quite close to everything necessary to live. I chose the city centre and I was right by my decision. Although it can be a bit expensive yet I stand by my decision as I was offered with everything necessary.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are few to limited on-campus part time roles which pay around 12GBP per hour. The off-campus part-time roles are hard to get in Birmingham as it is a city filled with immigrants and students. The part-times can be managed well as there is not a lot of burden of academics.

Excellent student life and high academic standards.
Tips: The MPH at Birmingham is no joke—the academic workload hits hard right from the start, so staying on top of your time management is essential. Don't expect standard sit-down exams; almost all your assessment comes down to continuous coursework, group presentations, and heavy research projects where critical analysis is key. A perfect mix of fun, learning and great student life
Tips: The biggest things to prepare before joining UoB are your accommodation and immigration paperwork. Don't leave housing until the last minute because student rooms around campus go quickly. Moving across was surprisingly easy though—the student-led societies and the active Indian community make settling in smooth.
Definitely make use of your Personal Tutor as soon as term starts since they’re great for guidance and finding post-enrollment awards. If you're aiming for the initial entry scholarship, keep in mind you need top-tier grades (it was 90%+ for my intake). The Guild of Students is really the backbone of campus life here—they run fun events, offer part-time work, and provide solid support if you're ever struggling academically or feeling homesick.

MBA International Business - Batch of 2025

Best experience of my life.
Tips: Yes, a cultural shift for sure, very satisfied with the university, lot of options for scholarships. I got a scholarship based on my undergrad grades. The course was excellent and helped us learn a lot of new things, the country as well was the best choice for me.
Likes (Indian Food): Each shop would cost 20pounds minimum per week have lots of Indian options for groceries, as well as Indian restaurants. I prefer eating at home as I'm vegetarian, and vegetarian options are very few and bland. However, there are good food options.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Honestly, it's just difficult to get a job, but you have to keep trying. Packages range from 25,000 to 30,000. There are companies that do offer sponsored jobs, but there are very few. Entry-level jobs are offered, if you have good previous work experience, it can be very beneficial.

BSc in Business Management - Batch of 2025

An exceptional place to discover your potential.
Tips: The university has way more resources than what you can use in your time at the university. So my genuine suggestion would be to put yourself out there. Try as many new things as you can and be comfortable with the ambiguity. In terms of cultural shift, there won't be any major issues. In terms of satisfaction, I think I am pretty satisfied with the university; however, the UK in general is a rough subject. The country is going through a lot and is not in its best position, so setting back and finding jobs is a little harder than usual.
Likes (Indian Food): Birmingham has loads of Indian restaurants all across the city. There is even a small Indian cafe on campus. So personally, I have never faced an issue with Indian/veg food in Birmingham. I usually prefer to cook for myself because it's healthier and cheaper on a daily basis. Irrespective, I still choose to eat out at least once a week or two. And when eating out, the bill comes to about £10-25 per person.
Dislikes (Part time work): I saw plenty of opportunities for part-time work on campus. Even I had worked across 3-4 different part-time jobs on campus, including student ambassador, welcome week staff, business school experience ambassador, and more. They usually offer zero-hour contracts, which are genuinely amazing as a student.

Worth a living, if you have a passion, it's worth the risk and hardship
Tips: Moving over to Birmingham definitely throws a bit of a culture shock your way at first, but it's the kind of place where you find your feet before you know it. The whole transition takes some adjusting—especially getting used to the British weather and the sheer pace of uni life—but everyone is in the same boat, so you blend right in.
Financially, the university makes things a bit easier for overseas students by automatically applying a £2,000 international scholarship right to your tuition fees, which takes a decent bite out of the upfront costs. Looking back, I’m incredibly happy with my decision to come here. The Edgbaston campus is stunning, my modules are exactly what I wanted, and living in the UK has been an amazing experience overall.

4.1
A rewarding academic journey in Birmingham.
Tips: If you're looking at coming here, my biggest piece of advice is to do your homework on the course and slide into the DMs of current students or alumni on LinkedIn. Getting their raw feedback on how the modules are actually taught, what the internship scene looks like, and the real job prospects is a lifesaver. Moving over to the UK was actually a pretty smooth transition for me, even though it took a hot minute to get used to the British academic style, which is way more focused on you studying independently and pushing for critical thinking rather than just memorizing notes.
The campus itself has a massive international crowd, which is amazing for meeting people from totally different backgrounds. I also managed to bag a £2,000 scholarship straight from the uni based on my past grades, which definitely took some of the sting out of the tuition fees. Overall, I’ve been really happy with the whole experience. The facilities here are top-tier, the academic support actually helps when you ask for it, and Birmingham itself is a fantastic city to live in. Whether you're chilling on campus right by Old Joe or staying over in Selly Oak, the whole student vibe here is honestly class—there’s always something random going on.

One of the best universities and also one of the top universities in the world within the top 100z
Tips: There wasn’t any cultural shift as such because wherever I went, there were Indian people. I did get a global master's scholarship, which waived some amount from my tuition fees. I’m very satisfied with the course that I did, and I love my university!
Likes (Student Life): The lectures aren’t too lengthy and not boring at all. College is just 2-3 hrs a day and about 3 days a week at most. Most of the work is based on self-study after lectures. Students get plenty of time to manage their lives and studies, plus there’s no pressure.
Dislikes (Internships): Vast majority of options to choose from, including paid and unpaid internships. Many opportunities are based on the course you’ve opted for, and depending on your knowledge and experience, you’ll surely land one good internship. If successful in it, you might also get offered a permanent position in the company.

The UK Dream: Inspiring Studies, Struggling Careers
Tips: The culture shock hit me in pretty much every way possible, from just trying to do basic grocery shopping to how the lectures are actually run. The second you land in the UK, you can just feel the difference—the air is clean, and the whole vibe is fresh and lively. Honestly, doing a master's at UoB is a completely different experience, but it’s 100% worth it. My only real piece of advice is to keep a close eye on the job market right now, because that side of things can get super stressful. I managed to bag a £3,000 Commonwealth Scholarship, and the uni definitely has other funding options you can look into on their site when you’re applying.
Likes (Indian Food): Birmingham is honestly amazing for South Asian food. There are so many Bangladeshi, Pakistani, and Indian spots around where you can grab a really cheap meal. That said, as a student, you're obviously going to have to cook a lot, but the city has tons of local grocery shops and markets where you can find literally all the ingredients you miss from back home.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are very limited companies that offer visa sponsorship, lately, companies in Birmingham have topped selecting international candidates let alone sponsoring them. Although there are many companies around Birmingham including pwc, Mondelez, Deloitte, etc. Still it is becoming to land a sponsored role or internship.

MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering with Energy - Batch of 2026
Offered by University of Birmingham
4.7
Life-changing experience with lot of life lessons and a lot of opportunities.
Tips: I want you to know all the necessary information regarding the university and the programs and the events that's happening. Research about the professors background so that when you come here you should be able to build a connection with them. You will get a lot of opportunities through those networks and also you should always be updated with the events that happening in the context and around the campus and in Birmingham so if there is an event it's better to go and attend it, and this way you will have like very good opportunities of landing into your job.
Likes (Post study jobs): In a further energy-related field there is a lot of scope. There are a lot of jobs available in the company. There is a huge demand for energy. I have landed three jobs before even completing my degree, which is a very good thing, so that's why I have rated five.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Due to the increasingly tough situations for immigrants because of the policies and regulations, there is a difficulty for settlement options. Getting a job is good but settling into it needs a high payment, high salaries, which are a little bit difficult for freshers but if you are experienced, then it's not a big deal. There is a demand for experienced individuals.

MSc Food Safety, Hygiene and Management - Batch of 2025

There is no internship and apprenticeship drives campaign by the university.
Tips: It was very academically oriented practices. Transition was challenging due to the difference in teaching style and cultural differences but a diverse student community was there to support me throughout. I'm highly satisfied with my course and university.
Likes (Safety): Safety wise it is good, students' guild community, religious societies countrywise. Cultural programs, events and festival celebrations. Universities arrange career fairs for a diverse range of students but there should be some internship drives that need to be prioritised to get exposure.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There is no internship and apprenticeship drives campaign by the university. There are just a few companies that offer sponsorship, most of them reject international students due to visa status. Average starting role with minimum wages. This is not enough for experienced candidates.

A well rounded and rewarding experience at UoB.
Tips: Students should know that the University of Birmingham offers a strong academic environment with excellent facilities, supportive faculty, and plenty of opportunities to grow professionally. Transitioning here was smooth, though there was a cultural shift in terms of academic independence, coursework, and communication style and the pace of life in the UK. I'm very satisfied with the university, the course and the country.
Likes (Public transportation): The University of Birmingham is extremely well connected to the rest of the city. The campus has its own dedicated train station - University Station, with frequent and reliable trains directly to Birmingham New Street and other key areas. In addition, buses run regularly around campus and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The chances of obtaining PR are very less seeing the political landscape. My experience at the University of Birmingham helped my connection to the country and if the opportunity for permanent settlement were more accessible, I'd be open to pursuing it.

Good facilities and helpful faculty.
Tips: Taking admission at the University of Birmingham was an enriching experience. While I initially experienced a cultural shift, I adjusted over time. I also received a merit-based scholarship with allowance support and am very satisfied with the university, course, and overall UK experience.
Likes (Safety): I felt secure both inside and outside of the college. Besides campus security, there are CCTV cameras, well-lit streets, emergency help, and regular police patrols. My overall experience in the city has been positive, with locals being helpful and friendly.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are limited choices from my home country. The area has a mix of cafes, fast-food chains, and some mid-range Asian restaurants. While prices are moderate, regular dining out can be expensive, so I prefer cooking at home.

University of Birmingham offers endless opportunities for growth.
Tips: You need to learn to manage your time well. In my course, we hardly had any breaks, and during term time, it was difficult to have a work-life balance. I came across some people who are not mentally prepared for it. I did not get any time for a part-time job during my term times as I had multiple exams, assignments, and a dissertation along with a tight lecture schedule from 9 am to 6 pm. However, it's not the same for all courses. Most of the courses have only Assignments and absolutely no exams at all, and their lecture schedule is also quite flexible. In other universities in Birmingham, such as Aston, the lecture schedule is quite flexible, which gives students ample amount of time to pursue part-time jobs.
Likes (Student Life): For those who are proactive, believe in taking initiative and want to excel in their career, the University of Birmingham offers endless opportunities for growth. They host various job fairs, career seminars, personality development and skill enhancement seminars, intercultural awareness workshops for international students and formal English modules that you can add to your course and all without any additional fees.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Recently UK has updated their post-study work visa policy, amending the duration for PSW from 2 years to 1 Year 6 months. The time limit for getting citizenship has been increased from 5 years previously to 10 years now, which makes the UK a tough call for someone looking for settlement. Moreover, taxes are super high, which makes the UK unfeasible as an option to settle abroad.

The road to pushing and knowing your limits.
Tips: It taught me a lot of things. I used to be an introvert and had no confidence in talking to strangers, but it brought me out of my shell. I learned how to cook, take care of my finances, look for a house, etc. I am now a much more confident person. Not a lot, but just that people here are pretty self-involved in both good and bad ways. There aren't a lot of scholarships for B-Schools, but like 2-3 people in our class got them from the University. I didn't get one. I believe the university holds a good reputation, and the course was newly launched, so I wouldn't judge it yet because they are improving their curriculum, but it was quite easy, not as stressful as I had thought.
Likes (Public transportation): The University is quite well connected, which was one of the most comfortable aspects. The campus is huge, so you'll have to walk a little, but it's quite good, actually. Buses are pretty convenient, and there is even a train station on the campus itself. Buses and trains cost fairly okay if you take the monthly passes, or if you are in a group, they are even cheaper, so travelling should not be an issue.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Not a lot of companies are willing to give you a visa sponsorship. While some graduate roles might provide that opportunity, even then, there is a 30% chance you'll land a sponsored job as companies prefer candidates who already have the right to work. Salary packages can range anywhere between 28-50,000/annum. There can be many titles for a job role, but the work varies from company to company.

The university is good and there are lots of on-campus events happening simultaneously.
Tips: Before joining the University of Birmingham it is essential to manage their time well especially with dividing the academic workload networking with professors and peers, and getting involved in campus activities. Also, be prepared for a different teaching style and expectations compared to home. The city is generally safe and the campus facilities are good. There are occasional cons in certain parts of the city particularly at night. The crime rate is low, but it's always important to stay alert and follow safety tips.
Dislikes (Indian Food): While it is sometimes difficult to find authentic dishes from my country, I have been able to find local stores that serve familiar flavours. The availability of ingredients in international stores or markets also helps, but certain spices or delicacies are often harder to find.

On-campus part-time jobs are mostly taken by the locals. They don't prefer international students.
Tips: I did transition after coming here. There was a huge cultural shift I faced during the first month, but I eventually got used to it. I did avail a scholarship. It was granted by my university for International students and was worth 3000. On-campus part-time jobs are mostly taken by the locals. They don't prefer international students. They have set so high standards for even part-time jobs on campus. Managing academics and part-time at the same time is a bit hectic. The minimum payout is 10.42 for those who are above the age of 21. Overall, I'm satisfied with my university in every aspect.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Well-experienced faculty members from all over the world. They were easily accessible and ready to help at any time. Classes were conducted in seminar halls with a video recording option, so we can access them at any time after that throughout our lifetime.
