BSc (Hons) Business Management - Batch of 2027
5.0
Amazing, liberal, friendly and fun loving.
Tips: Ravensbourne University is a great university when it comes to study, joy, and a friendly environment. Ravensbourne University offers great scholarship programs to international students. Being an international student here, I can say it is totally worth every penny. The faculty is highly knowledgeable, approachable and supportive. The teaching is research-oriented and application-based, interacting practical learning, case studies, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

I wouldn't personally recommend this university for a postgraduate degree.
Tips: The offerings and student support could be improved. However, I thoroughly studied the university and the country before applying, which allowed me to get a scholarship of 40,000. Unfortunately, it was subsequently reduced. The country itself is good, but I feel I should have selected a more specialized program. I am not very satisfied with my university experience so far.
Likes (Safety): The campus has strong security measures including camera surveillance well lit streetlights, security patrols and the visible presence of the police. There is also a sense of community that makes the neighborhood around campus feel safe. The campus is also very close to a station.
Dislikes (Internships): Some internships required at least two years of experience and most companies preferred British passport holders. Unfortunately, the university's career guidance is severely lacking and there's a distinct impression that they're not equipped to properly support international studies.

Master of Engineering (MEng) in Electrical and Computer Engineering - Batch of 2025
Offered by University of Victoria
4.5
Fun and engaging campus life.
Tips: Living in Van isle especially in a small city like Victoria can be a little depressing at times. But opportunities are great, especially the surprisingly low cost of tuition in the research based programs, sometimes fully covered as well. Do find your aligning course.
Likes (Part time work): The easiest to find part time jobs are both on campus and off campus. Especially off campus because there are a lot of jobs but not a lot of people. Simple demand and supply. You can easily pay off your expenses by doing off campus though it's ideal if you find on campus opportunities.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Strong repo on the West Coast but still not a lot of companies in Victoria specifically. Vancouver Island and BC companies prefer UVic grades, and it has a decent repo. Mid size companies mainly with a few large MNCs, decent entry level packages. Government companies and hiring are good.

Supportive environment with good opportunities for growth.
Tips: There was a bit of a cultural shift at first, but that's common for most immigrants, and you adapt quickly. The environment is supportive, and there are good part-time opportunities on campus. I also received the Graduate award every year, which is automatically granted if you maintain a good GPA which is definitely a nice financial boost.
Likes (Part time work): There are usually a variety of part-time jobs listed on campus from time to time. Also, it's relatively easier to find off-campus opportunities, especially since Victoria isn't as saturated with immigrants compared to cities like Toronto or Vancouver. On-campus jobs also tend to pay slightly more, typically a dollar or two above the minimum wage. Plus, roles like Teaching Assistant (TA) or Research Assistant (RA) are also available and usually offer significantly higher pay.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian food options on campus were quite limited and not very satisfying. If you're particular about Indian meals, it's better to bring your own lunch. That said, the other available food options were generally good, such as Mexican, Italian, Canadian and American. Vegan options are limited, but you can always get them customised.

Good work opportunities and community.
Tips: You can join Indian clubs like Umang and Tamil clubs and international student clubs like Uvic Global Community to meet other international students who are in the same boat as you. Join new activities, events, and clubs. Join a gym or fitness class. In your first semester, don't be afraid to say hi to the person in front of you in the cafeteria. The more you put yourself out there, the easier it is to make friends. And once you make good friends, it will start to feel like home. I am very satisfied with my university and country.
Likes (Safety): Victoria is a very safe city. My friends and I have never had any major issues, even as women. You can walk around the city even at 2-3 AM if you need to without any issues. Just avoid walking around by yourself in the downtown area too late at night, as many homeless people live there and you may get mobbed. But if you need to go late at night, just go with friends you trust. Overall, it is the safest city I have ever been to.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I have not heard of any companies offering sponsor visas for work for Uvic graduates. As it is a mid-tired university, big companies do tend to prefer alumni from bigger universities than Uvic students. I am studying B.Com so I have seen many roles related to finance, accounting, marketing and HR. Beginner salary is usually around $49-60k.

Overall it provides wholesome experience of North American Culture.
Tips: UVic offers a strong global comm department whose main goal is to make the students transitioning into Victoria easier. Helps to ease out with cultural shift. Scholarships options are available on merit. Weather is fantastic year round and be prepared for rain.
Likes (Internships): For Engineering and Computer Science, UVic offers a very strong co-op programme. These jobs are offered across Canada. Each department has its own co-op department which provides industry-specific guidance to students. There are all resources available, one just has to look and ask for help!
Dislikes (Student Life): Being in for 4 years, most of my time is spent completing school work and working on projects. There are some really good options/facilities available on campus. Giving 3 stars as Vic doesn't have any for someone looking for social events outside campus, they might not enjoy it.
