SMU: A Dynamic, Global, and Career-Focussed University Experience
Tips: Prior to joining SMU, students should be made aware of the interactive nature of the academic culture, with participation being an integral part of the process. Classes are mostly discussion-oriented, and students are required to participate actively, engage in group work, and handle multiple responsibilities along with the coursework. In conclusion, I am very happy with SMU, my course, and of course, Singapore.
Likes (Student Life): The reason for the 5 rating was the active, diverse, and engaging campus environment. Inspite of being a compact city-centre campus, opportunities to meet people, participate in activities, and build a community outside the classroom are plenty. Attending classes, working on group projects and assignments, spending time with friends, and participating in co-curricular activities make up a typical day for a student here. There are plenty of student clubs as well, like, the finance, consulting, entrepreneurship and the sports clubs.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Singapore gets a 1-star rating because, even though Singapore provides great job opportunities and a high standard of living, getting the status of permanent resident in Singapore for a foreigner is fairly challenging and unpredictable. Long-term settlement also depends on other things like job, salary, qualifications, etc. If I had to assess the probability of getting permanent settlement in Singapore, then I would say it is uncertain/moderate rather than high for a foreigner like me.

Technically well equipped and academically inclined
Tips: Nope, not much cultural shift, as there are many Indians here. I did get a 30% scholarship for the course. You have to apply for it separately after you get admitted. I am well satisfied with the university and professors. They really helped me whenever I had any doubt.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The professors are extremely helpful and kind. They will really go out of their way to help you; that is if you are interested. They will always reply to your email and can even give one-on-one attention. You just have to be proactive in class. As for nationality, they are mixed.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The chance of getting a work visa is very difficult. They prefer local, and getting a permanent residence is also very difficult. If given a chance, I would like to settle in Singapore. But it seems very difficult, and they do not give PR easily. But you can still try to first get a job and then a PR.

SMU: A city-campus with goal oriented, but friendly people
Tips: Quite satisfied with the university. I was able to go outside my comfort zone as school honors participation. I made a lot of friends of different ethnic backgrounds. The professors are extremely helpful too. One thing to note is, you may want to learn how to cook, as eating out can get expensive, especially for vegetarians. :) You'll miss Indian food if you're from the northern states, as SG's local Indian food is mainly southern. Don't forget to use a GOOD deo/antiperspirant because it gets very hot in Singapore and most SMU classes are small in size. Additionally, as Indians, we tend to gravitate more towards other Indians, so try to socialize more with everyone and put up a friendly smile.
Likes (Student Life): It is a city campus with many student-led events. SMU often gives students many opportunities to connect with other students through workshops, also provides free snacks and hosts fun and interesting events involving talents. Moreover, they have many opportunities for students to actually get out of school and go overseas too.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Singapore has strict PR/citizenship policies; most students hoping to even find a job would require companies to sponsor a visa, which many are not willing to do due to additional costs and legal requirements to hire additional locals to compensate for hiring foreigners. Therefore, regardless of hope of PR, finding a job itself is close to impossible. Many of my friends from India came to SG hoping to settle down through a job; however, ones with a 4.0/4 CGPA faced a reality check after 6+ months and 300+ job applications to many companies before finally giving up and applying in India.

Insights to SMU Singapore
Tips: Job hunting is quite difficult in Singapore as a non-local, and SMU generally is not of much help—faculty is great for SOSS and law. Other schools are not that great. - Singapore is an extremely safe country. General discrimination in terms of preferential treatment to locals is there, but no blatant discrimination against anyone.
Likes (Public transportation): Almost every part of the city is connected through buses or trains, and their cost is not much. The campus has two MRT lines as well as a lot of bus stops nearby (and one on campus). It's a city campus, so most schools are near bus stops and MRT stations.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Not many companies are open to hiring non Singaporean local for internships or full time jobs. Very difficult to find jobs. Networking can also net get you too far. Work sponsorship is something most companies are unwilling to pay, and even through great references there is not much scope.

A lot of events and fun work study balance.
Tips: Students should attend the orientation before the classes start. Get a feel of the campus, go around as the different schools are a bit of a walk. But there are public buses that go around as well. Meet the new students during the orientation.
The university facilities are amazing and is located in the heart of the city.

Strong academics , independent learning, and career focused
Tips: Before joining Heriot Watt, expect a self-directed learning style and fast academic pace; cultural shifts include independent living and diverse classmates, and adapting to UK academic expectations and teaching style are more discussion- and application-based rather than memorization. Overall it's a strong university.
Likes (Indian Food): You likely found good restaurant variety and reasonable availability of your cuisine, eating out is convenient, there are so many restaurants nearby which we can get our food and many areas have also ethnic grocery and street food spots that makes home style cooking easier and more affordable.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The biggest issue is usually that the visa pathways are incredibly confusing and the rules for staying long-term keep changing. Honestly, your chances of staying permanently completely depend on your specific job skills, what’s in demand, and how well you fit into the current immigration policies. Without those pieces aligning, settling down here is technically possible, but you definitely can't bet on it. If you don't have a bulletproof plan or a really strong route to qualify, the whole thing is honestly a gamble rather than a safe bet.
