MS in Computer Science - Batch of 2026

On-campus jobs are difficult to find for first-year MS students.
Tips: I received a $5000 scholarship, and many others have also been awarded scholarships. There was definitely a significant cultural adjustment coming here from India. I am generally satisfied with my university and course, but it would have been even better with some research experience.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is good, with various clubs and activities available. The Indian community is active, making it easier to feel connected, and there are some sightseeing spots in and around St. Louis.
Dislikes (Part time work): On-campus jobs are hard to come by for first-year MS students due to limited openings. The average pay for part-time work is $12-$14 per hour, and with a large student population, the competition is intense. Students should start applying from their first semester.

The faculty is great, understanding and helps you to excel in your academics.
Tips: Students should be ready for all kinds of experiences. The college has a very good resource and nice staffing. The college even provides you with free mobile transport passes, but in the end, the city is very scary, and I would suggest staying away from downtown or at least in a community where there are a lot of people who are not from your race.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Good faculty in the course that I have taken. The assignments are tough, but due to a lot of students around and resources to get from the universities, as well as the lecture video and the class lecture, it is easier for one to understand what they are doing, and if you come from a place of zero experience, in the course you are in, you can clearly express it with the instructor given the fact that you are interested, and they will definitely help you out.
Dislikes (Safety): The city with the most reported crime in the US is St. Louis City, which has a lot of people with coloured backgrounds, so the number of homeless people and the number of jobless people with minimum salaries are very high in the city, leading to different kinds of crimes but not any daylight robberies.

Interesting and a unique experience to cherish.
Tips: SLU is very historic and even the campus is structured in a very medieval manner which adds to its appeal. There is a wide variety of courses and programs offered and courses are quite research intensive as well. The faculty is helpful and understanding. However, it might not be the best fit for everyone so it's important to keep an open mind.

It provides one of a kind learning experience.
Tips: Before you arrive on campus, it is better to give yourself a margin of a week to settle down in terms of time zones, demography, etc. There are also special student services portals you can use to help you out in a variety of situations from documents to class registration.

Hard to manage
Tips: The offer letter says part time jobs are given at campus. But they are not available for two years. I am hoping to get it but we cannot get SSN without an offer letter. And it is hard to manage without credit here in the US. Very hard to maintain all the rules.
Likes (Public transportation): There are no direct options to travel. We need to change the means of transport every now and then. The college provides a transport card which is free to use until a year.
Dislikes (Part time work): No part-time opportunities in college for a year and yet no offer letter until now. It's hard to manage studies and assignments and for non-cs background students. Taking cs is difficult. Come well prepared as there are no jobs offered on campus

Best university ever with plenty of opportunities!
Tips: Have a strong mindset of studying and have a focus on what you want to achieve in your life. You will feel very welcome to George Mason University and you won't feel lonely since this is a very diverse community. I am very satisfied with my university because it is truly worth attending. I have made a lot of friends and diverse friends which have helped me a lot in my classes.
Likes (Indian Food): A typical day involves attending classes, studying with friends and enjoying the diverse atmosphere on campus. Our college hosts diverse cultural events. So this is what I like the most about my college. Our campus hosts diverse events such as Cultural Fusion Week where we celebrate our cultural diversity and it is the favourite week for every student studying in Mason.
Dislikes (Internships): The faculty is very accessible and approachable in the college of engineering and Computing department. One methodology that I like about this university is that for computer-related courses, we get to do simulations which really helps students tackle real-world problems. My university is very diverse in nationalities. There are faculty from everywhere around the world.

Think twice as money matters
Tips: The fee is lot higher. The curriculum is so strict for CS department. HC is strictly put in action. State buses are available but not for all distances. Cabs are a lot higher in rate. Part time opportunities are very less. The off-campus accommodation is costlier if it is near campus.
Likes (Quality of faculty): There are some good faculty who pin points everything in detail to provide good understanding. And they support the students. Some faculty they don't even reply to the emails. Assignments are given a lot of course it's in every college but the honor code is strictly implemented.
Dislikes (Value for money): I don't think pouring so much money for my tuition fee is worth it. I mean we have many good colleges with reasonable fees or although the fee is higher they provide scholarships. But in this college, there is nothing as such. Anyways it is a reputed college with a strict academic curriculum and in a safe state.

Factors to be considered before attending college.
Tips: The decision to attend university is a major one that calls for serious thought and research. Students should be aware of a number of important aspects that will affect their academic, financial, housing, and personal success before enrolling in college. Understanding the programme requirement and academic standards. Also, know about the campus atmosphere and students must look into placement services and internship opportunities that are related to their coursework.

Very good University with diversity.
Tips: You guys are here to study, focus on that. Start applying for on campus jobs as soon as possible. Start working on your internship from day 1. Time management and focus management are really important to succeed. Take care of your health and make sure you bring basic medication from home.
Likes (Student Life): George Mason University has huge campus with lots of diversity. Everyone from the campus is really helpful and guiding. There will be lot of fun and educational events to attend. University is there to help you with any questions just reach out to them.
Dislikes (Part time work): Very few part time jobs compared to number of students. They have increased the intake so there will be a struggle. Start applying on app called handshake as soon as you get admitted. To manage financial things, part time work is really important. That's why I rated less.

Very limited opportunities for jobs.
Tips: Students should be aware that Fairfax, Virginia, has some cold weather in the spring, and they should make preparations to address this weather if they are studying there. They should also be aware that they can find people who will pick them up from the airport on the university's WhatsApp community group, which can be a free way to get around the area. Free public transportation is available from 7 am to 11 pm, with bus availability throughout. There are also bikes available around the area for rent, as well as taxis, Uber, and metro access to DC.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): My friends are having a hard time finding jobs since they recently graduated. That's a big reason I gave a one-star rating. There are many other organisations to hire from, but there are also many people around.
