Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (M.Sc.) - Batch of 2027

New opportunities, hard work and determination is a must.
Tips: Students should know which course they want to study before joining the university. The courses are tough, and it’s better to be fully motivated before you start studying. I am partially satisfied with my university and my time in Germany. However, there is still hope for new students who are thinking of joining. The German language is also critical. It will be difficult to get a job without it.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is really great at Saarland University. The lectures are mostly in the afternoon, and we can arrange our own schedules to give us free time. There are also many free events organised for international students every week, so there’s always something for us to do in the evenings or on the weekends.
Dislikes (Value for money): There is no tuition fee as it is a German public university, but the program is more theoretical and research-based. It is a 95% research-based course, so I believe corporate-level practical skill sets cannot be gained just through the program. It's the best university if you want to pursue a Ph.D. afterwards.

Amazing experience with lots of opportunities.
Tips: The course requires your attention; you can't just study one night before the exam to pass. You need to study regularly and attend the lectures and tutorials in order to pass the exam. It can be tough at times; some of the subjects are really challenging and might require more in-depth research and knowledge of the topic. The faculty is super helpful, especially for international students. Try to often engage and interact during classes. The best university in Europe for CS programs. Internships are available, but since Saarbrücken is a small city, most roles require German language fluency.

There are a lot of opportunities and work is very flexible.
Tips: It is really important to attend the lectures. I have received one scholarship. The course and staff are really good, the teaching is also really good, the country is a bit hard to navigate, adapt to, and understand, but it’s really good once you start learning the language. Feel free to reach out to the professors if you have any doubts or uncertainties. Also, try to participate and engage as much as you can.
Likes (Value for money): The value of the education is high because I am paying only 300 euros per semester, which is very affordable compared to other countries like the US, the UK, and Canada. I don't have a lot of financial stress, so I can just focus on my studies. The cost of living is also very low here. I think the value for the price is worth it.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are a lot of opportunities. Work is very flexible, so we can work and study at the same time, and it will not affect our grades. The average payout is 15 euros per hour, but it totally depends on where you are working and how much experience you have in that work.

The university is research-oriented and provides us with lots of potential resources.
Tips: It is really research-oriented, so you can attend most of your classes without ever having to code in them. However, some of the subjects are really challenging and might require a more in-depth knowledge of the topic. For instance, if you took a cryptography course at your previous university, you may find that it is usually harder at Saarland University.
Likes (Value for money): The university is really good and a super value for money. The money you pay goes towards the public transport, which is valid throughout the rest of Germany, so I believe it is really worth it. Also, some of the money also goes towards the student club, which helps organise events and conduct voluntary events.
Dislikes (Internships): Internships are available, but since it's a small city, most roles require German language fluency. This limits opportunities for international students, but with enough experience, you can find something. But it might be harder to find specific jobs, and you need to be more open to other possibilities.

The course is very much theoretical. It is good for research purpose.
Tips: There are a lot of cultural changes here. I had to do everything myself, from the paperwork to making appointments. I even had to cook my own food, which wasn't at all like what I was used to back home. There are a lot of things that are different, and I think it's really helpful if you can get a good understanding of German before you come. If you study the language before you get here, you'll have a good advantage when you start looking for a job.
